Mental About Heath with Process Video | Niki Rowland

Hey everyone, this is Niki here today with a new layout, process video and a funny story. Sooooooo....it's Mental Health Day at school, and the children had to wear green to represent that. So my husband asks my 6 year old son why he is wearing green and Max explains that it's Mental Health Day. My Husband then asked Max what mental health is? To which Max responds with 'it's when you're MENTAL about health!' Needless to say we found this hilarious and I absolutely had to document this story.

So given the green theme, I had to make my background green of course. I have used four colours:

I applied these to my background using the packaging technique and lots of splatters.

I have also used the fabulous Cute Arrows cut file from the October Kitz. This cut file was designted by Paige Evans and I cut one large floral arrow from green patterned paper and two loopy arrows from a dark teal patterned paper. I backed the floral one on white card and used it as a layer under one of the words from my title. I stitched through on my sewing machine, the arrows and the words of my title.

I embellished the layout with pom pom trim and lots of little bits and pieces of ephemera, acrylics and stickers. Here's another look at the finished layout.

Thank you so much for joining me today, I hope you have enjoyed my layout. There is a process video for this one that you can view below.

'Make Great Memories' Layout with Process Video | Niki Rowland

Hey there everyone, this is Niki with a new layout to share today. I have used four Inklings & Creameez Shimmerz Paints to creat the water colour effect background on my layout.

These photos were taken on the hottest day ever recorded in the UK so this layout had to be full of bright summery colours. I chose to use Heidi Swapp Color Fresh collection and I started off by figuring out the basic arrangement of my layout. I added the strips at the top and stitched through them.

I added my Inklingz and Creameez to my background using the packaging technique. The trick with these hard paints is to drop some water in them and allow them to sit for a few minutes - this melts the top layer slightly and you end up with a fabulous rich paint.

I pick up some colour with a paintbrush and transfer it onto the packaging. If it's not wet enough then I add some water. Sometimes I just press it onto the layout, then add water directly to the layout and then put the packaging back over the top so that I still achieve the water colour effect. I have made a process video of this layout so if you want to see how I create my backgrounds in more detail then take a look at that. You can find it at the end of this blog post.

The four colours I used are:
Pink Champagne Creameez
Berry Hot Creameez
Refresh Mint Creameez
Meet Me @ Sunset Inklingz.

Once the paint applied with the packaging technique was dry(ish), I then added splatters. I usually add them colour-on-colour, ie yellow splatters over yellow paint. I did this for this layout. I also added some extra splatters once I had finished the layout.

Here's another look at the finished layout. You can see that I've also used some Dotz...one to the left of my photos that says 'Smile' and the other one is above my photos - that fabulous orange and yellow swirl...this reminded me of a very hot sun, so perfect for this layout.

Thanks so much for joining me today, you can view my process video below. Don't forget that if you place an order via the Shimmerz Store, put my name in the comments and you will get a freebie with your order.

Sunny Days | Niki Rowland

Hey guys! Niki here today with a summery layout!  Instead of creating a mixed media background, I made a sheet of colour and then cut out shapes from those colours using my manual die cutting machine and metal dies. I've also used a free exclusive summer cut file by Paige Evans. It's a summer grid and it will be available FOR FREE on the Shimmerz Sharez Facebook Group this coming weekend: Friday 21st June 2019. Head over to the group to join and pick up this fabulous freebie.

I started off by adding four colours of Creameez to a white cardstock sheet:

I used the packaging technique to do this and then added splatters in the same colours. Once dry I ran the colours through my Big Shot with scalloped circle dies. This means I had lots of different sized circles in different colours..

I arranged the circles onto my layout. At this point I used the summer grid exclusive cut file by Paige. I cut the whole cut file as a 12x12 grid from a sheet of white cardstock. I then cut out five of the icons I wanted to use on this layout. I nestled them in between the mixed media circles and they look fab, becuase they show up great against the coloured backgrounds.

I added a Perspextive title by Bramble Fox and a black compass icon too. I added lots of little pieces of ephemera and stickers for my embellishing, from the Maggie HolmesSunny Days collection. There are also a few bits from Hip Kit club in there too.

When the layout was almost complete, I wasn't happy with the clean feel of it. Becuase I had cut out perfect shapes from the mixed media paper, the layout didn't have a mixed media feel about it...there was no Shimmerz coming from behind the circles and no splatters. So I added LOADS of splatters. I used the same four colours as listed above.

Still not satisfied, I added sequins too! I embellished, and splattered in a tone-on-tone fashion. Thank you so much for joining me today, I hope you have enjoyed my layout. I have also put together a process video for this layout which you can view below.

Today Scrapbook Layout | Katty Miranda

Hello friends! Katty here to share another 12x12 layout with you all. I am scrapping a sequence of photos of my niece and my mom. My niece gives the best hugs. She is the sweetest.
I began with a floral embroidery stencil and my Shimmerz Dazzlerz in the color Spun Sugar. I used it on white cardstock. I used Spun Sugar to create a neutral base.
To add color to the flowers, I used several colors. I used a combination of an Inklingz in the color Bahama Mama and a Creameez in the color Refresh Mint for some of the flowers and a combination of two Creameez in  Berry Hot and Sky's the Limit for the other flowers. I then fussy cut the flowers.

I pulled out a mint green paper from my stash. I arranged my three photos in the center of the layout and added a simple layer of tracing paper behind all three photos. I then raised them up on foam. I then clustered the flowers underneath the pictures and added some leaves I had previously cut out on my Silhouette Cameo.

I used a Teresa Collins diagonal stripe stencil with the Dazzlerz in Spun Sugar and used the same four colors to color in between the stripes. I cut out strips and added two in the top right and two on the bottom left of the layout. In between the strips of color I added white drops using Nuvo Drops. I also added Nuvo Drops to the flowers for some extra detail.

I used a Heidi Swapp acetate word in a coordinating coral color as my tittle and a few random embellishments from my stash. At first I wasn't sure about combining all of these colors but  in the end I really like how it turned out.
There is a video on my channel if you'd like to watch my process:

Products Used:
Dazzlerz: Spun Sugar
Inklingz: Bahama Mama
Creameez: Berry Hot, Refresh Mint, Sky's the Limit
Thanks so much for stopping by, remember.......
XOXO

Live a Colorful Life Art Journal Page | Katty Miranda

Hello friends! Katty here to share a fun Art Journal Page. For this page,  I just wanted to play with pretty spring colors. I wasn't sure exactly how this would turn out but I love how it did.  I was inspired by a chipboard word from the Pink Paislee Fancy Free Collection. I pulled out colors that would match this collection. I am working in my Daler-Rowney Mixed Media Travelbook.

I began with a small experiment which didn't really work out too well. LOL. I used some gloss medium which I had put into a fineline bottle and added some clusters of dots on my page above my chipboard word. My thought was that it would act as a resist when I used the watercolors over it. In the end it didn't shown up too well. Next time I'll have to add bigger dots.

I started layering my colors directly on my page. I used several  Creameez and one Coloringz. I began with the Coloringz in No Yoking and added color using the packaging technique and spread it out using my paint brush. Then I added my Creameez which  have a pretty touch of Shimmer to them. I used Boogie Boardin Blue, Refresh Mint, Lettuce Get Together, Tripping' in the Tropics, Great Fruit, My Clementine, and Cheeky Pink. I made sure to spread the colors out as evenly as I could throughout my spread. I added in some small flowers which I had fussy cut from a Patterned paper from the Fancy Free  collection.
I used the new Acritonez in 3 Sheets to the wind and added some white dots throughout  as well as some black splatters. I added my Colorful chipboard word and some scallop half circles which I had used on a previous project. To add some additional detail, I added faux stitching around the Colorful word and the half circles. I also used a circle stencil and traced some small circles in black pen. I added a few Tim Holts tiny word stickers and I finished it off with a messy double line around the whole page. I love how it turned out.
There is a video on my channel if you'd like to watch:

Products Used:
Coloringz: No Yoking
Creameez: Boogie Boardin Blue, Refresh Mint, Lettuce Get Together, Tripping' in the Tropics, Great Fruit, My Clementine, Cheeky Pink

Thanks for spending some time with me today and remember...
XOXO

Art Journaling With Irit

Hi! Irit here and I'm so excited to share with you my latest project for Shimmerz. Today I'm showing you how to create a simple and lovely art journal spread using Shimmerz goodies. Here's my finished project-

I started by simply spreading Acritonez in 3 sheets to the wind and pinkadelic. These paints dry super fast, so I could move on to the next step almost immediately.

I added some messy circle lines and lots of splatters with Coloringz in Well Blue Me Down, Glorious Days and Jeni B Blue Vibez.

I love how the ink sprays behave differently on Acritonez. It's almost like a bokeh effect.  Next I added some photos and patterned paper from Maggie Holmes Bloom collection.  To make it feel more like a part of the art journal I colored some of the edges in Sky's the Limit and Refresh mint Creameez.

There's also a video tutorial-

"Let it snow" layout with Anna

Hello Shimmerz fans. I am so excited because today is my first post for Shimmerz along with the process video.
We are in the middle of the winter on the northern hemisphere. It's cold, dark and depressing. The only bright thing during the winter is snow. World looks much better under the snowy blanket. I had few fun pictures from one of our winter walks and I wanted to scrap it.

As You can see I didn't use any patterned paper on this page. I created my own background using variety of Shimmerz products.

I also used a foiled snowflakes that I made by my own using Minc and Silhouette Cameo. I got my Minc for Christmas and I just love the effects You can achieve.

I was trying to kill my "Snow and cocoa" kit leftovers but in the end I didn't want to cover too much of my background.

You can create Your own background in different colors and use it for many other, not winter related projects.
