Loving This | August Color Kitz | Lorimar Ortega

Hello Shimmerz Family!

August for us is in full swing with homeschool already started up and the usual slipping into a routine that comes with it. Yet, it's always good to remember the summer memories that we've made, and the August Color Kitz is perfect for that! You can grab yours at www.shimmerzpaints.com

Here we go!

I began with a blank sheet of white textured cardstock and sprayed and splashed Pink Stilettos into the center of it. I chose this color because I wanted my picture to really pop.  I also splashed Slow Ocean and Bumble Bee. While this dried, I colored the two floaty cut files, one with Seas the Day and other with Love Ocean #9. Using the left over centers of the cut files, I added glue and dumped the packet of sequins on them for a pop of sparkles.

Once everything was dried and ready, I added a yellow patterned paper mat to my photo (from the gorgeous Paige Evans Splendid collection) and popped it up on craft foam. I also popped the sequined circles on craft foam for added dimension. I placed the cut files as seen in the picture and then added on the sequined circles and photo. I then began to add in embellishments from my stash; I used items from Vicki Boutin's Sweet Rush collection because they paired together amazingly.

In order to make the yellow from Bumble Bee pop a bit more, I added my journaling in gold ink, and also did some doodles with it around the border. Final step was to pop in the Dots from the Color Kitz as well as some that I had in my stash. To tie everything together, I splashed some more of Bumbly Bee and Slow Ocean. That's it!

Perfect Day | Shimmerz Paints June Color Kitz | Paige Evans Splendid

 Hello Shimmerz Family!

Today's layout features the stunningly gorgeous June 2022 Color Kitz which you can get here. I decided to not include the cutfile from the Color Kit because I wanted to create a bit more of mixed media DIY.

It's all pretty straight forward so let's get started!

I began with a white sheet of cardstock unto which I sprayed Don't Citron Me and Hermit The Frog (half a sheet), and added in the blue with brushstrokes. For added depth, I splashed the same three colors on top of each other.

Using another sheet of cardstock (this was my base), I sprayed Gladiola and splashed the other pink on the upper half of the base. While both sheet were drying, I prepped my pictures by trimming them to roughly 4x5, matted them with a pink pattern paper from Paige Evan's Splendid collection and popped them up on craft foam.

Once both sheet of cardstock were dry, I cut the green and blue into random waved strips and distressed the upper edge. I began to layer them onto the base alternating between green and blue strips. Once this was done, it was just a matter of placing my pictures, adding in my journaling and embellishments. I also added the glass beads on top of the waves for some extra pizazz and dimension.

Close-ups are down below. Thank you so much for joining me today! Remember that you can get a freebie by typing "Lorimar" in the comments section of your next Shimmerz Paints order.

See you next time!

Forever | Shimmerz Color Kitz April 2022

 Hello Shimmerz Fans,

Isn't the April Color Kitz just uber cute? I truly believe it's my most favorite kit to date; I've swooned over those gorgeous blues and purples, and that pop of green is really something! My layout, this time, is a mixed media overload so I've divided up the process into areas rather than documenting it in chronological order. If you would like to create along, you can grab the kit HERE and watch the process video HERE.

Here we go!

#1 - Base -

I began with a white sheet of textured cardstock and added It's A Boy and Colder Than Ice in brushstrokes on the right hand side of the base. To create that artsy look, I used a scraping tool to smoosh the two blues together.

#2 - Green Mat -

To balance out the blues and pick up on the green blouse that I was wearing in the pictures, I cut a scrap piece of cardstock to roughly 6x5. Then I punched 2 of the edges with a notebook punch, and sprayed and splashed Keep Palm on it.

#3 - Sequined Hearts

I had some leftover heart negatives from a cutfile I had previously used so I put them to good work by adding glue to them and then pouring the sequins (from the kit) on them. They will serve as embellishments.

#4 - Embellishments -

For the first time in a long while, I actually sat down at my desk and pre-planned my layout. I began to pull out random embellishments from Cocoa Vanilla Studios, Pebbles, Simple Stories, Vicki Boutin, Paige Evans, and American Crafts that fit the color scheme from the Color Kitz and the overall theme of my layout. I also picked out some lavender, periwinkle and white thread to add in.

Assembling my layout

Starting off with my base, I prepped it, I then layered in some of the of the ephemera and the green mat beneath my pictures (sized 4x4 and matted with patterned paper and craft foam for dimension). Afterwards, I added in all the embellishments, popped up the sequined hearts on craft foam and stuck on the Dotz from the Color Kitz. Finished the layout off by splattering some more of the gorgeous colors and writing in my journaling.

That's it! Thank you so much for joining me today; I hope I've inspired you in some way to get your story documented. Be sure to use my name (LORIMAR) in the comments section of your next Shimmerz Order so you can receive a freebie!

Merry | Green, Orange, Gray Shimmerz Paints Products

 Hello Shimmerz Fans,

Today's layout features a play on words; basically I've used a Christmas-related word for a Summer themed layout. It's all explained down below; you can grab the Shimmerz Products I used HERE and watch the process video HERE.

I began by adding gesso to a sheet of white cardstock and selected my 3 main colors for mixed media, orange, green and gray, which pair well with the colors from the photos. In Shimmerz terms, these color were Freshly Squeezed, Carrot Top, Don't Citron Me, Honey Do List, Granny Gray, and Thunderstorm. I wanted to created a horizontal spread of colors so I held the base up in the air while spraying the three colors. While they were still wet, I tilted and turned the page every which way to that they would spread and blend a bit. Afterwards, some splatters of the same colors were added to their own section.

While the base was drying, I began to hand stitch the switchable Merry cutfile (grab it here) with some red thread; once done, I cut out the excess cardstock and popped it up on craft foam. I also backed my photos with red cardstock to match the cutfile. Now came the other fun part! I dove up my stash of embellishments for those that were orange, green and/or gray (mainly used those from Paige Evan's Bungalow Lane and Pebbles Kid At Heart collections. I assembled my layout like you see in the pictures and called it done! Through and through, it was a quick and easy layout to complete. Close-ups are done below!

That's it! Thank you so much for joining me today; I hope I've inspired you in some way to get your story documented. Be sure to use my name (LORIMAR) in the comments section of your next Shimmerz Order so you can receive a freebie!

Create Magic | Mixed Media Layout without Any Patterned Paper w/ Process Video

Hello everyone! Lorimar here sharing this super "messy" mixed media layout with you. Link to Process Video: https://youtu.be/on6FUoFhvEE

Have you had a chance to participate in our Spring Forward Challenge? It's a bit scary, at first, knowing that you can't use patterned paper, but I promise you, it's so fun to really push yourself and know that you make something just as amazing!

Here's my layout using the Spring Forward Challenge. Since I couldn't use patterned paper, I decided to up the ante and really use a lot of different mixed media products.

To begin, I chose a black cardstock as my base and added white acrylic paint with a palette knife to make a sort of frame beneath where my picture was going to be placed. After waiting for the paint to dry, I added Shimmerz in Mango Tango (Vibez), Jenni B Bleu (Vibez), Mustard Seed (Coloringz), and Hermit the Frog (Vibez) onto the white paint using the packaging technique, and added splatters of the same colors to the black cardstock.

If you look closely at my photo, my sons are playing with their toy cars in the midst of a big ol' mess. I don't mind the mess as long as they are playing and learning! In fact, it works out because the messiness served as inspiration for the "messy" vibe the overall layout has. After waiting for the Shimmerz to dry, I used a 12x12 star stencil and Dazzlerz in Gummy Beary Blue to add some texture and dimension to the layout. I've also used Dazzlerz Gold Mine with a Paige Evans Stencil to add even more interest and texture.

As soon as everything was dry, I dug into my stash for the eclectic array of embellishments that you see in the layout; I used ephemera, stickers, chipboard stickers, a bow, and wood veneers to further play on the boyish, messy theme. To tie everything together, I splattered some Pixie Dust (Blingz) all through-out the layout.

There you have it! Hope I've inspired you to join us in the Spring Forward Challenge. Let's get our stories documented.

Remember, you can receive some free paint if you write my name "LORIMAR" in the comments section of your next Shimmerz order.

Have a great day,
- Lorimar

Be Still | Jen McMurtrey

Hello Shimmerz friends!

With the holidays behind us and winter setting in (in the U.S.), I thought it would be nice to create something bright and cheerful. Today's layout features a rainbow of Shimmerz colors with the Paige Evans Layered Sunburst cut file and a few simple embellishments.

To begin this project, I selected the following Shimmerz Paints to create the rainbow colors.

Next, I used white cardstock and cut one each of the layers in the cutfile. I did enlarge the file to
12 x 12 prior to cutting it so it would fit on the page.

Once I had cut out the layers of the sunburst, I painted each one with the colors listed above. To get the deep red, I layered Scarlett's Fever with My Bleeding Heart. I did the same with Freshly Squeezed and Pumpkin to get a rich orange.

After the paints were dry, I layered them and decided where to place them on the background. Offset focal points are always a favorite of mine, so I placed the sunbursts in the lower-left corner and machine stitched them to white cardstock. For more texture, I folded each layer upward at the seam.

Since my title is simple, I decided to keep the embellishments simple as well.

The title was created using Felicity Jane puffy stickers.

Using enamel dots to match the paint colors, I placed them in the order of the rainbow to match the sunbursts.

I used black enamel dots to anchor the title. In keeping with the simplicity of the design, I added the date to the bottom-right corner and opted to forego journaling. Because the sunbursts are so bright and beautiful, I wanted to keep them the focal point of the layout (in addition to the photo).

I hope this bright layout has inspired you to create today. If you are planning to create your own rainbow but need to add some colors to your collection, remember to type JENNIFER in the comments at checkout to receive a Shimmerz freebie!!

Here We Go! with Process Video | Niki Rowland

Hey everyone, this is Niki here today with a new layout using my favourite Shimmerz products: Inklingz and Creameez!

I started off with making my background using the packaging technique. I used two pink colours:
Pink a Boo Inklingz
A Rose (by any other name) Inklingz and a deep blue:

I used the two pink colours first and then added the dark blue. I then added paint splatters in the same colours.

Once my background was dry I added the cut file. I cut this from a piece of very dark blue patterned paper. I edited the cut file first to make the ampersand solid rather than an outline - I wanted to show off that glorious rich blue paper that went so well with my Shimmerz background. I did nothing else with the cut file, other than add lots of flowers and fussy cut leaves. I didn't need to back it as I wanted my mixed media background to show through.

I added some white highlights to my cut file with a white pen, and finished off with lots more paint splatters. I also added the word 'loved' which is a wooden word. I painted it with Witches Blue Creameez to make it match my Shimmerz background.

Thanks for joining me today. There's a process video too that you can view below. Don't forget that if you place an order via the Shimmerz store, put my name in the comments for a freebie.

Happy scrapping xx

Fall | Kelly Janes

Hey Shimmerz fans! Kelly here today with a new 12x12 Fall themed scrapbook layout!

I started my layout today by grabbing the Paige Evans Truly Grateful Collection and three Shimmerz colors that match; Cotton Candy Spritz, Plum Pudding Spritz, and Sweetheart Vibez. I added clear and white gesso to the background patterned paper before adding any of the mists.

I cut a Fall themed cut file from The Cut Shoppe using the Truly Grateful 6x8 patterned papers and used those 3 colors behind the cut files. I used the packaging technique, a brush, splattered and misted the colors directly on the background to get the coverage I was looking for.

I then adhered the cut file images on top of the mixed media. The colors were a little too bold in the center of each letter so I painted watered down white acrylic paint in the opening of each letter to mute the mixed media in that area.

I then moved onto adding 8 tiny photos and embellishing. I grabbed multiple Fall themed embellishments from the same Paige Evans collection and I also added hand-stitching around each of the letters to help them pop off the background.

Now you can take a look at my process video to see how this layout came together from start to finish.

I love how versatile the Shimmerz mists are and how the possibilities are endless!

Daisy Trouble, with process video | Niki Rowland

Hey Shimmerz Fans, Niki here today with a layout using one of Paige's adorable cut files from our recent Color Kitz. This one is called Sunshine and Clouds.

I cut the cut file from Vicki Boutin Patterned paper. I decided to use the negative and I cut a circle from white cardstock to piece the pieces back onto.

I carefully pieced all the pieces onto the white circle. I then added a watercolour background using my Shimmerz Paints. I have used a piece of Marshmallow cardstock for the background, mounted onto a patterned paper border.

I used:
Bahama Mama Inklingz
Coral Reef Inklingz
Freshly Minted Inklingz
Boogie Boardin' Blue Creameez.

I simply applied these using the packaging technique and I then added lots of splatters.

Once my cut file and background were complete I added my photos and lots of embellishments. I also added Daisy Trouble as my title, and journaled around the edge of the cut file to explain that title.

There is a process video for this layout which you can view below.

Don't forget that if you place an order via the Shimmerz website, put my name in the comments to get a freebie - happy days!
