Happy Spring Day | 12x12 Mixed Media Layout using origami butterflies

Hello everyone!

Lorimar here, sharing this gorgeous, butterfly-filled 12x12 mixed media layout. I've used more or less the same color-scheme as that of the May Color Kitz. I played around with making some origami butterflies and also pulled out 4 different butterfly punches. Here's the process video: https://youtu.be/eMMF4TICjUI

Let's get started!
For my origami butterflies, I colored some leftover white cardstock with Paradise Punch, Mustard Seed, Bahama Mama, Limoncello, 1 Hot Mama, and Bumbly Bee; set it aside to dry. Be sure to let your cardtock/paper dry completely before folding it as it might tear easily if it's still damp.

Selected a sheet of Tutu Pink Bazzill cardstock and sprayed Snow Storm, Tuscan Sun, Cotton Candy, and Chick A Dee in a diagonal line from right to left. I did this to further give my layout some sense of movement. Set my base aside to dry and got to work on my butterflies.

I trimmed out (2) 2x2 inch, (2) 3x3 inch, (2) 3.5x3.5 inch squares to use for my butterflies. Here's the video I watched: Origami Butterflies. With the remainder of my leftover cardstock, I punched out a lot (and I do mean A LOT) of butterflies. My design for the arrangement of the butterflies was to emulate them fluttering off the page from right to left, so I began to place them all scattered around the page and pointing towards different places to try and convey movement.

The origami butterflies are very dimensional so they don't require craft foam; however, some of the other butterflies have to wings popped up on craft foam. To finish off my layout, I matted my picture with a layer of patterned paper, popped it up on some craft foam, added a few butterfly wood veneers, placed my title beneath my picture and wrote the date underneath it. For some extra sparkle, I scattered some Spiegelmom Scraps Sequins (Pink Promenade).

And that's it! I hope I've inspired you to get your stories documented, get your Shimmerz out and play! Thank you so much for looking and I'll see you back soon!

Have a great Shimmery day!

Together

Hey everyone! I’m up on the Shimmerz Blog sharing this gorgeous layout mixing florals with the ombre look. It’s no secret that I love using florals in my layouts because they add color, dimension and shimmer! My family and I recently went on vacation and, among the pictures we snapped there, we came back with this awesome, colorful picture! I just couldn’t wait to scrap it. Like my previous blog post for Shimmerz, I’ve divided the process of making layout into 3 sections: background, florals and leaflets, and bringing it all together.

Background-
I used Vicki Boutin’s Foundations paper because I knew that I was going to use lots of liquid with my mixed media. I grabbed a regular bowl to help me mark my center and circumference with a white gel pen. By using a white gel pen, any marks can be easily covered. Once I’d made my circle, I removed the bowl and sprayed the center with Shimmeringz Goldie Lox to give it a bit of shimmer.

After waiting for it to dry, I placed the bowl back on the background as close to the original marking as possible, and then gathered my other mists (they are listed below) to create the ombre look. I began spraying them from the bottom up slightly overlapping the mists to achieve a smooth transition.

Waited about 5 minutes for the mists to dry a bit, and then repeated the process. I did this to ensure that my colors were nice and bright! Without waiting for it to dry, I poured a bit of white acrylic paint and water into a mini mister and sprayed the whole background. This technique gives the colors a marbled/crackled look.

I then watered down some white and gold acrylic paint and splattered them along the whole background. Later, I removed the bowl and set the background aside to dry.

·        Cotton Candy (Spritz)
·        Lil’ Yellow School Bus (Coloringz)
·        Tuscan Sun (Spritz)
·        Princess (Vibez)
·        Rip Van Periwinkle (Vibez)

Flowers and Leaflets
Since I knew that I’d be adding floral die cuts from Paige Evans’ Whimsical, Horizon and Truly Grateful collections, I decided to make some extra florals to make the wreath look fuller. To accomplish this, I grabbed some scrap white and kraft cardstock, gold acrylic paint, a floral Vicki Boutin stamp, and archival ink and lots of Shimmerz (listed below). I made gold, yellow, blue/violet and pink flowers, and green leaflets. For the gold flowers, I used the kraft cardstock which I covered with gold acrylic paint and splatters of Miner, Miner 49er an Old Yeller. The other flowers were made one white textured cardstock. Finally, I made some green splotches from I’d punch some leaflets once dry. Once everything was dry, I fussy cut the florals out.
·        Meet Me @ Sunset (Inklingz)
·        Bahama Mama (Inklingz)
·        Limoncello (Shimmerz)
·        Miner Miner 49er (Inklingz)
·        Hermit the Frog (Vibez)
·        Goldie Lox (Shimmeringz)
·        Rip Van Periwinkle (Vibez)
·        Cotton Candy (Spritz)
·        Caribbean Sunset (Spritz)
·        Lil Yellow School Bus (Coloringz)

Bringing it all together
I placed my photo on some layers of patterned paper from Paige’s Truly Grateful collection, popped it on 3D tape and placed it in the center of the circle. Then I began layering and tucjing in the flowers and leaflets, letting the background by my guide. Some of the flowers are completely stuck down flat; others have their tips set on 3D tape, and still others are popped up completely on 3D tape. This is how I achieved the layered look. I sprinkled a couple of epoxy dots and hearts, and stickers from Truly Grateful. To marry everything together, I splattered a bit of Miner, Miner 49er throughout the completed layout. Added my journaling at the bottom with a white gel pen. Here's the layout once more and lots of close-ups!

I loved how this turned out, love the color scheme! If you liked any of the colors you saw me use, you can find them all @ Shimmerzpaints.com.

A Good Day | Julee Tilman

Hi friends! For today's card I wanted to play a bit with Inklingz, since I usually either reach for Shimmerz or Vibez. Inklingz are a solid shimmering watercolor that you activate with water. Just spray a few squirts of water into your pot, then wait a few minutes and you're ready to go. The colors in this line include some beautiful pastels and less vibrant shades than some of the other lines of paint, but they have an amazing shimmer when dry.

I started with Bahama Mama and Blue My Mind, painting a little onto some packaging and then spritzing with water and smooshing on to the page. After doing this, I decided I needed a little more "pop" so did some more smooshing with some Grape Escape Vibez, then going back in with a little  more of the Blue My Mind until I was happy with the background.

I pulled out a fun Reverse Confetti set and stamped it over the background, then went back in with the same colors of paint and colored in the flowers.  The sentiment was embossed in platinum embossing powder first. Luckily I used my MISTI, so when I realized it didn't have enough contrast to be seen, I could restamp and emboss it in white. I like the little shadow effect it created.

I then started making a little accent cluster, starting with one of the Dotz from the Happy Thoughts collection. I added a few teeny paper roses, painting them with Bahama Mama and Grape Escape, then giving them a good coating of Angel Wingz Shimmerz. I finished off with a few rhinestones placed around the sentiment and then as centers for the stamped flowers.

Thanks so much for stopping by today! I hope your day Shimmerz!

Daisy Trouble, with process video | Niki Rowland

Hey Shimmerz Fans, Niki here today with a layout using one of Paige's adorable cut files from our recent Color Kitz. This one is called Sunshine and Clouds.

I cut the cut file from Vicki Boutin Patterned paper. I decided to use the negative and I cut a circle from white cardstock to piece the pieces back onto.

I carefully pieced all the pieces onto the white circle. I then added a watercolour background using my Shimmerz Paints. I have used a piece of Marshmallow cardstock for the background, mounted onto a patterned paper border.

I used:
Bahama Mama Inklingz
Coral Reef Inklingz
Freshly Minted Inklingz
Boogie Boardin' Blue Creameez.

I simply applied these using the packaging technique and I then added lots of splatters.

Once my cut file and background were complete I added my photos and lots of embellishments. I also added Daisy Trouble as my title, and journaled around the edge of the cut file to explain that title.

There is a process video for this layout which you can view below.

Out & About | NIki Rowland

Hey Shimmerz Fans, Niki back today with another layout to share. I'm really into blocks of colour right now so thought I would create another layout like this for my layout today.

I started off by working out the approximate position of my photo. I then drew a line horizontally...this is sort of a 'shelf' for my photo and embellishments to sit on and I wanted the Shimmerz Paints to be coming down from that 'shelf.'

Instead of different colours, this time I went for shades of one colour. I wanted to pick up on the peachy tones of the papers and embellishments I was using. The Shimmerz Paints I've used are:

I'm particularly in love with Inklingz and Creameez at the moment due to the gorgeous intense colour you get when you activate them with water. If you don't add too much water and let them sit for 10 minutes or so before use, you get this small amout of very rich creamy intense colour. This consistency is perfect for applying with a wide brush and achieving those gorgeous brush strokes.

I applied my four colours and then added paint splatters in the same colours. To do this, I put a small amount of each colour on a craft sheet and spritzed with water to make them more liquid. I then flicked the colours onto the layout.

Once my layout was dry I then added my photos and embellishments onto my 'shelf'. I added LOADS of teeny sequins (a mix called Starry Dreams) by Spiegel Mom Scraps becuase they reminded me of sand and obviously I have sand in my photos.
I added an acrylic title by Bramble Fox and filled the open letters with the same sequins.

The paper collection I've used is Maggie Holmes Sunny Days. I finished off with one of the gorgeous new Dotz flair style buttons, at the top of my photos - I absolutely love these and can see I'll collecting all of them.

Thanks so much for joining me today and I hope you've enjoyed this layout. Don't forget that when you place an order via the Shimmerz Store, put my name in the comments and you will recieve a freebie.  Happy scrapping xxx

Today Scrapbook Layout | Katty Miranda

Hello friends! Katty here to share another 12x12 layout with you all. I am scrapping a sequence of photos of my niece and my mom. My niece gives the best hugs. She is the sweetest.
I began with a floral embroidery stencil and my Shimmerz Dazzlerz in the color Spun Sugar. I used it on white cardstock. I used Spun Sugar to create a neutral base.
To add color to the flowers, I used several colors. I used a combination of an Inklingz in the color Bahama Mama and a Creameez in the color Refresh Mint for some of the flowers and a combination of two Creameez in  Berry Hot and Sky's the Limit for the other flowers. I then fussy cut the flowers.

I pulled out a mint green paper from my stash. I arranged my three photos in the center of the layout and added a simple layer of tracing paper behind all three photos. I then raised them up on foam. I then clustered the flowers underneath the pictures and added some leaves I had previously cut out on my Silhouette Cameo.

I used a Teresa Collins diagonal stripe stencil with the Dazzlerz in Spun Sugar and used the same four colors to color in between the stripes. I cut out strips and added two in the top right and two on the bottom left of the layout. In between the strips of color I added white drops using Nuvo Drops. I also added Nuvo Drops to the flowers for some extra detail.

I used a Heidi Swapp acetate word in a coordinating coral color as my tittle and a few random embellishments from my stash. At first I wasn't sure about combining all of these colors but  in the end I really like how it turned out.
There is a video on my channel if you'd like to watch my process:

Loveliness Layout | Katty Miranda

Hello friends! Katty here, Today I created a fun floral watercolor background for my layout.

I began with an old Teresa Collins stamp set. I chose a simple flower and continuously stamped the image using Versa Mark Ink. I focused my stamping on two opposite corners of my white 12x12 sheet of paper. I then heat embossed using white embossing powder.

I colored the centers of the flowers using Aqua Huez Pot-O-Gold and used a watercolor brush to color the flowers using a mix of beautiful colors including Creameez in My Clementine, Great Fruit and Trippin in the Tropics. I used the original Shimmerz Paints in Magenta and Jilted Jade for the leaves and Inklingz in Precious Posey and Bahama Mama. No coloring inside the lines here, I just colored over the grouping of flowers.

I love the mix of the shimmery and non shimmery paints. I added a few splatters with some of the colors as I painted. Lastly, I added some shading with Aqua Huez Gray Matter where the mix of colors met the white cardstock.

I am using a photo of my adorable niece. I printed it in black and white. I added a few florals which I cut out on my Silhouette Cameo. I decided to leave them white. I love the simple texture they added. I embellished using lovely die cuts from the Cocoa Vanilla Love Always collection. My tittle is a silver glitter foam word from the Pinkfresh Studio Felicity Collection.
I love how this turned out!
There is a video on my YouTube channel if you'd like to watch my process.
