Arty Tag by Joyce

 Hello my Shimmerz Sirens.
It's me Joyce here today to share a little mixed media tag featuring a photo from one of my fav pre-raphaelite period artist, Lawrence Alma-Tadema.
I adore the dusty hues in his work, his details are exquisite.
This photo reminded me of a creative relationship I have with a fellow artist. I know those two women are discussing current arty trends and art supplies during that Victorian time.
The tag was slathered with gesso over a printed book page, and the photo was printed on printer paper and adhered to the tag.

Below, I set about trying to create drips of ribbons of colors from each
of the women's gowns.  I liked how some of the colors ran through the lacy bits of lace creating more interest and texture.

Although I didn't have the colors of these gowns in my Shimmerz Paints arsenal, I was able to capture them using a variety of Shimmerz colors like the lovely shimmery Inklingz White, and the pretty little pots of purples such as Inklingz Precious Posey, Pugnacious Purple, Creamez Witches Blue, Shimmer Orchid-Stra, Blingz Under the Sea, and finally Vibez Princess.
Don't be afraid to mix your Shimmerz Paints products to obtain a desired color.

See you next time, where I hope to have completed my
Autumn Enchantment Junk Journal.

Shabby Chic Summer Place Junk Journal by Joyce

Summer’s over but I’m not quite done with it yet. It’s me Joyce here today to share my shabby chic Summer Place Junk Journal.  It’s stuffed with old things I used to hold dear: a collage featuring an old ticket to a play I attended; stained Battenburg doily; Pansies I dried years ago and now have a home in my journal; a letter from Grandma which included a dollar to buy ice cream on the way home from the neighborhood pool; a post card from my favorite Pre-Raphaelite Artist; and some music sheet to, “ A Summer Place” by Percy Faith.  When I was a young child, my mom would play this song when she set up to oil paint or attend to chores. Then and today, it still resonates with me. I feel all is right in the world and it still brings a tear to my eye.

Here's a little slide show of the completed journal. Thanks for viewing with me.

All the chipboard, and linen fabric in the junk journal was treated with yummy, creamy Shimmerz Paints.

Let me tell you what I used.

Chipboard:
Acritonez-Three Sheets to the Wind
Inklingz – Pugnacious Purple, Precious Posey, and I Love you Onyxly
Shimmerz – Orchid-stra

Button:
Blingz- Gold Glimmer
Shimmer – Berry-licious

Coffee dyed paper and white linen fabric:   I combined the following two products to achieve a dusty lilac color.
Vibez- Princess
Shimmeringz-Heavy Metal

Thanks for letting me share with you.

Happy Mail!

Happy Mail!

Hello my fellow Shimmerz Siren’s, it’s me Joyce.  Here today to share some Happy Mail for a dear mixed media mistress.  Pssst… I hope her package makes it to her mailbox before this post is published.

Years ago, when I moved into my 1925 home, I found in the trash container a number of very old black scrapbooks. It was a joyful day to find I had moved into a fellow artists’ home! I browsed through her small snippets of watercolor images, her written stories published in old magazines, poetry and small plays. This was indeed a treasure trove to me.  And, as I was spring cleaning this week, I came across these scrapbooks again. I stopped working and spent a few hours going through them and tearing out pages of old magazines…. And this little mini fabric/junk journal was created in a day…a very long day.

This fabric/junk journal is also a mini kit I prepared for a dear mixed media mistress. Inside each of the Glassine bags are remnants of fabric, lace embroidered fabric, embroidery thread, bulb clips with tear drops of pearls, beads and rhinestones I assembled to use as little embellishments, and some aged fabric flowers too. I know she’ll create something beautiful this this mini kit.

The page above features one of the old torn out paper clippings. I loved the title! I spritz under the white doily a combination of Vibez-Princess, and Spritz-Rock a Fella Blue to achieve a periwinkle color.

On the page above, I applied some dried floral on top of textured cardstock, and applied a thick coating of matte gel to hold it town and receive some more of the periwinkle color concoction. I adore how this treatment turned out, and you will see me use this idea again.

The  lacy page above was originally intended to be an internal page of the book, but in the end it became the title page.  After laying down a piece of Pellon (found in fabric stores and used as a stay in collars) on top of watercolor paper and sewed down, I applied many different pieces of laces and applied matte gel on top of them and let it dried thoroughly.  Paint brushes loaded up with Inklingz-Pugnacious Purple, Inklingz-Precious Posey, Treasured Hymm, and the same periwinkle color concoction were applied sporadically over the lacy bits. I then used a stiff brush loaded with gesso and pounded the brush down on top of the paints and beads to soften the colors.

The music sheet page features a piece of white lace and a white flower that were spritzed with the periwinkle concoction and pretty Spritz Tuscan Sun.  A few more pages are featured on my blog should you wish to see them.

Thanks for letting me share this with you!  I hope I have inspired you to use your Shimmerz Paints on a fabric/junk journal too.

Listen for my siren to bring you back on April 30th.

Loveliness Layout | Katty Miranda

Hello friends! Katty here, Today I created a fun floral watercolor background for my layout.

I began with an old Teresa Collins stamp set. I chose a simple flower and continuously stamped the image using Versa Mark Ink. I focused my stamping on two opposite corners of my white 12x12 sheet of paper. I then heat embossed using white embossing powder.

I colored the centers of the flowers using Aqua Huez Pot-O-Gold and used a watercolor brush to color the flowers using a mix of beautiful colors including Creameez in My Clementine, Great Fruit and Trippin in the Tropics. I used the original Shimmerz Paints in Magenta and Jilted Jade for the leaves and Inklingz in Precious Posey and Bahama Mama. No coloring inside the lines here, I just colored over the grouping of flowers.

I love the mix of the shimmery and non shimmery paints. I added a few splatters with some of the colors as I painted. Lastly, I added some shading with Aqua Huez Gray Matter where the mix of colors met the white cardstock.

I am using a photo of my adorable niece. I printed it in black and white. I added a few florals which I cut out on my Silhouette Cameo. I decided to leave them white. I love the simple texture they added. I embellished using lovely die cuts from the Cocoa Vanilla Love Always collection. My tittle is a silver glitter foam word from the Pinkfresh Studio Felicity Collection.
I love how this turned out!
There is a video on my YouTube channel if you'd like to watch my process.

Products used:
Aqua Huez: Pot-o-Gold, Gray Matter
Creameez: My Clementine, Great Fruit, Trippin in the Tropics
Inklingz: Precious Posey, Bahama Mama
Shimmerz: Magenta, Jilted Jade

Remember, if you make any purchases from the Shimmerz Shop be sure to mention my name and you'll receive a FREE product!

XOXO

When it hurts....observe. Life is trying to teach you something.

Did you hear that Shimmerz Siren? Yep, that was me, Joyce. Glad you found your way here to let me share with you the colors of purple.

Over the years, I have kept quotes, poems, and excerpts from books I have read in a little spiral bound book. I now enjoy adding these words of wisdom in my art journals.  Here is a gothic-like photo I found on Pinterest and a quote that reads:  “When it hurts…observe. Life is trying to teach you something.”

Some of my favorite elements on this art journal entry are the following:
1.       Background created by painting the inside pages with white gesso but not adding gesso on the edges of the paper.  This method allows the Shimmerz mists and watercolors to absorb in the natural fibers of the paper.  To achieve this, apply a lacy like stencil around the edges of the pages and apply gesso over the stencil, and then fill in the middle parts of the pages with gesso. I love how the natural fibers of the paper absorb the Shimmerz  mists and watercolors.  When using light colors of mists and watercolors, I use clear gesso on top of the white gesso. This prevents the white gesso from resisting the light colors.  After the gesso dries, I applied Rocka-Fella Blue around the edges of the pages and quickly soaked up excess with a sea sponge and allowed to dry thoroughly.  Use the excess on the sea sponge and lightly dab over areas of the pages. Repeat the next layer using the same method with the color Plum Pudding, allow to completely dry before repeating the next layer using the same method with the color Plum Tuckered Out.  Stamped images were applied with a permanent color ink pad.

2.       White Rayon ribbon:  Cut a long piece of white Rayon ribbon and trim the hard edges so that strands of thread are revealed and the ribbon looks worn and tattered.  Scrunch up the ribbon in a ball and lightly soak the ribbon in various colors of Rocka-Fella Blue, Plum Pudding, and Plum Tuckered out.  Between each soak, allow each color to dry on its own before commencing the next soak.  On the final soak, scrunch up ribbon in a ball and allow to dry in a ball.  As I repeated this method, I would sometimes scrunch up the ball of soaked ribbon and punch it down on a paper towel. The paper towel turned out so pretty with the various colors that I decided I would use it too… and I did.  You will find some tucked in under the Rayon ribbon.

3.       Chipboard elements (small pieces): gesso chipboard, apply Ruby Lost Her Slipper with a small paint brush leaving the white edges of the gesso exposed. Ink edges of the chipboard with a permanent color ink pad.

4.       Chipboard Cross: gesso chipboard, combine Paste-eez Cream and Berry-Licious together and paint on top of cross leaving some areas thicker than others. Outline chipboard with a fine marker to add more interest.

5.       Metal element: clear gesso, and Precious Posey.

Celebrate Card with Beck BT

Hi Everyone, I've been at it creating another mixed media card for you to enjoy and hopefully be inspired.  They do take a little more time mixing different mediums and creating layers, but the finished card is so much more special I think.  I love that you can see the 'art' in it.

For my card today I enjoyed playing with a few different yummy Shimmerz products:

Shimmerz Dazzlers - Coral me Crazy & Sea U in the Mountain
Shimmerz Inklingz - Precious Posey & Dear John Letter
Shimmerz Creameez - Daffodil & She Packs a Punch
Shimmeringz - Baby's Breath
Vibez - Egg Noggin
Spritz - Cotton Candy

I used them in various ways and I'll share on that in the close up pictures below

I added colour to the flowers with the Shimmerz Creameez in She packs a Punch as well as watercolour effects to the background with all the Creameez and Inklingz listed above.

For some added splatter I mixed the Shimmeringz - Baby's Breath, Vibez in Egg Noggin and Spritz in Cotton Candy to match in with my color tones and added a little splatter to the card.

Stencilling with the Dazzlers is such a dream!  I used the Sea U in the mountain with a stencil to create that yummy background texture.

I achieved beautiful lustre and texture with the Coral me Crazy Dazzlers on the paper die cut followed by heating with a heat gun until I bubbled a little.

Thanks so much for heading over to the blog today to check out my project!  I hope I've inspired you and shown you how lovely a little Shimmerz mixed media can be on your sweet cards.

Till next time
