Get Cozy With This Fall Scrapbook Idea | Melissa Minor | November Color Kitz

Hi crafty friends! Melissa Minor @Cards By Melissa Minor here and today I'm sharing a layout with you using the November Color Kitz. This is my favorite kit Shimmerz has released this year. Every paper is gorgeous! The paint colors match all the papers so well. Fall is my jam!

When I started my layout I didn't have a clear idea of where I was going with it. So, I started by choosing a few papers that I really liked that coordinated well together. I also chose 2 of the paint colors, some ephemera pieces, and other embellishments I knew I wanted to use. I then fussy cut the images on one of the patterned papers. I had a hard time cutting up the paper because I love it so much! The images in the picture below are the ones I fussy cut! BEAUTIFUL!
Next I started cutting circles using my old Creative Memories circle cutting system. I haven't used it in forever but it was perfect for cutting lot of circles in different sizws. I then began arranging the circles onto my background paper. Oh! I forgot to mention, I used clear gesso on the background paper so that I could paint on it later.

Once I had all my circles arranged I added some foam to the back of my photos and adhered to the page. I pulled out the Shimmerz paints from the kit: Teal The End Of Time & Here I Yam . I added a little paint around each of the circles. It's so pretty and shimmery! I used a couple dots from the kit and added a little tangled thread behind them. I finished my layout by adding an acrylic title from my stash and some sequins from the bonus bundle.

Love Lives Here | Melissa Minor | September 2024 Color Kitz

Hi Crafty Friends! Melissa Minor here on the blog. I'm excited to be sharing another layout with you. Today I'm using the September Color Kitz. I'm celebrating love the whole month long since my boyfriend Dale & I celebrated our 2 year dating anniversary this month. The pictures I'm scrapbooking are of us visiting our favorite sunflower field in Iowa. The very next day after our visit a storm came through and wiped out all these beautiful flowers for the rest of the season. I'm so happy we were able to go and visit when we did.

To begin my layout I started with a piece of Mixed Media cardstock. I pulled a 12x12 stencil from my stash. The stencil actually has flowers and leaves on it. But I only wanted the leaves portion. So I used a foam ink dauber and brushed on a mixture of Distress Grit Paste and Vibez-Moss-Terious Green. The dauber gave me a little more control over where the mixture was applied. I love the soft look of the leaves with the green color mixed into the paste. Then I took some of the Moss-Terious Green and added a bunch of splatters.

For my embellishments I fussy cut the flowers and leaves from the coloring sheet included in the Color Kitz. I placed the pieces on a low tack sticky mat and began painting them. I used Shimmerz-Limoncello for the flowers. I pulled out Vibez-Mustard Seed from my stash and applied to the center of my flowers. For the leaves I painted them with the Moss-Terious Green. It's hard to appreciate on camera how beautiful these embellishments really are. They sparkle and shine since they were painted with Shimmerz. They are so pretty! I wanted to pull the blue color from my dress onto the layout. I used one of the stickers that looks like a piece of washi tape and placed above my focal photo. Then to carry the blue around the page I used the blue sunflower dotz. You can see I also added a blue watering can sticker too. My layout needed a title. I went to my huge stamp collection and found just the perfect title. The stamp is from Close to My Heart - Love Lives Here. Now I have the blue color in three places on my layout.
Did you see the bonus bundle this month? Wow! The sequins are very eye-catching. I pulled the blue, green, and yellows to use on my page. I decided to add a whole line of them along the bottom of the layout. This was the perfect finishing touch! Be sure to add my name (Melissa Minor) to your Shimmerz Paints orders to receive a free gift. This also lets Shimmerz know I referred you. I  hope this layout has given you some inspiration for your Color Kit. That's all for me this month. Check out my process video below. I'll be back next month with the October kit.

Happy Crafting,
Melissa Minor

Celebrate | Brandy Vaughn | May 2024 Color Kitz

I have been waiting for the perfect products to come along for this photo. I knew instantly the May Color Kitz are exactly what I had been waiting for.

I went straight for the color page and painted some roses then fussy cut them. I pulled out the other roses and some leaves from the ephemera pack. Then I decided that the scalloped cut file would make a beautiful frame for the photo.

Once I arranged the flowers and leaves where I wanted them, I dipped a paintbrush in the Spritz "Powder Puff" and added some more color coming out from under the florals. Then I added my title and some gems and this one was done. It came together so quickly and easily!

I would love for you to check out my process video below. Also, if you make a purchase and add my name to the comment section of your order you will receive a FREE product!
Have a lovely, crafty day!

A Dry Brush Blending Technique That You Have Got To Try | Brandy Vaughn | April Color Kitz

Hello, friends! It was love at first sight. As soon as I opened my April Color Kitz from Shimmerz I knew I was going to have so much fun! I had to dive in right away to create this simple, colorful mixed media layout. You all should give this one a try!

I began by covering smooth white cardstock with gesso. Once it was dry, I dipped a dry paintbrush into a little bit of Vibez-Blue Jeans and applied it to the center of the page in a circular pattern.

Then I repeated the process with Coloringz-Well Blue Me Down, Coloringz-Sunny Side Up (kit only color), and Creameez-Piggy Pink in that order. I overlapped each color so they would blend to create this pretty rainbow effect. I added a second coat to deepen and blend the colors a bit more. It dried very quickly so I had to work sort of fast to get the colors to blend.

My next step was to roughly cut the mixed portion out in a circle and distress the edges. I took that to my sewing machine and stitched a wonky spiral in the center to firmly attach that to my background paper. (I used a small amount of adhesive to keep it in place while I sewed.) I had previously cut my title out with my Cricut so I decided to paint it with Shimmerz-Peaces and Cream. I LOVE how the Shimmerz adds so much shine and presence to my simple title piece!

Now it's time to add my embellishments. I created a floral cluster with the super pretty flowers and leaves that come in the kit. I also added a couple of word phrases and heart stickers from the kit. And that wraps up this layout.

I love the final result of this dry bush technique! I can think of so many ways to use this. If you would like to see how this all came together you can check out my process video here:

Head on over to the Shimmerz Shop to check out all of the goodies that come in the April Kitz. Don't forget to add my name to your order for a FREE paint!

Honey Bunny + Bonus Easter Card | Brandy Vaughn | March Color Kitz

Hello, hello again, everyone! Today I'm back with another sweet layout using the March '24 Color Kitz! And this time I am also bringing you a precious, bonus Easter card!

I really wanted to feature the bunny paper because I love it so much! Therefore, I decided that a minimal layout was in order. I began by tearing a small strip from the middle of the bunny paper creating the perfect white area for my splatters.
I used every color that comes in the Color Kit this month.

Then I used the packaging technique to add Shimmerz: Pink Caviar to some scrap white cardstock. Once that was dry I die-cut a stacking flower and added some finishing touches by using a small paintbrush to apply Vibes: Quit Yer Wine-N. I also die-cut some leaf stems and added color by spraying on Vibes: Arti-Choked.

I finished the layout by adding the adorable ephemeral pieces from the kit, a title from my stash of alphas, and some hand stitching around the edges of the page.

Now for the BONUS Easter card! Last week I used a stencil to apply my left-over mixed media paste to white cardstock. I cut that piece down to 5 3/8 x 4 1/4 to be just slightly smaller than my card base. Then I just added some sweet ephemera pieces from the kit and I was done.
It was the simplest card ever!

Be sure to stop by the Shimmerz Paint store to check out all of the fabulous color options! Don't forget to add my name, Brandy Vaughn, to your order for a FREE product!!

I would love it if you would check out my process video also!

Thanks for stopping by. I hope you have a lovely, crafty day!

Enjoy Life and Have Fun | Brandy Vaughn | February Color Kitz

Hi everyone! I'm back today with another layout using the February kits. I really wanted to get these photos scrapped before the end of the month.

I began by running a smooth piece of white cardstock through an embossing folder. I cut the pieces down to 5-inch squares and applied my mixed media. I added my first color and let it dry completely before adding my second color. I then let that one dry completely and went in with my 3rd and 4th colors while each was wet.

When those were dry, I added some machine stitching around the edges and adhered them to black cardstock. Then I fussy cut the flowers from a piece of paper in the kit and used a fine paintbrush and Shimmerz paint to color them in.

Next, I stamped my title and some leaves with black solvent ink and fussy cut those out. I also chose a Vibes from my stash to color in the leaves.

Finally, I completed my layout with more embellishments from the kit, and a few gems from my stash, and then backed the whole thing with another patterned paper from the kit.

I hope I have inspired you to try mixed media on your next layout. Check out the Shimmerz Paints store online to see all of the amazing products. If you purchase, don't forget to add my name, BRANDY VAUGHN to your order for a free paint! You can also view my full process video below.

XOXO | February Color Kitz | Brandy Vaughn

Hello, everyone! I hope you all had a wonderful Valentine's Day! We celebrated last weekend with a Valentine-themed birthday party for my grandaughter's 5th birthday! This was just the sweetest photo of her and her friend, and the February kit complements it perfectly!

I decided I wanted this one to be 8.5x11. I knew I wanted the black plaid paper to be a big part of the layout because I love it so much! So I cut out a piece that measures 8x4.5 and placed it prominently across the top of my white cardstock. I then added a pink strip that I cut into a fringe with my herb scissors. At this point, I decided to machine stitch down the center of the black stripes.

Then I painted this banner with Spritz - Happy Hour and Creameez - 1 Hot Mama

Next, I added some Coloringz - A Bright Fuschia to my page, then fussy cut the large X's and O's from one of the patterned papers to use as the title.

After adding my embellishments, I finished the page off with splatters and journaling.

I hope you enjoy this layout. You can check out my process video here:

Don't forget to add my name, BRANDY VAUGHN, to your next order and you will receive a free paint!

Dream | Brandy Vaughn | January Color Kitz

Hello, crafty friends! I'm back with a new layout using the January Color Kitz. This time I wanted to focus on the Coloringz 'ROSE TO THE OCCASION' that is exclusive to the January Kit.

I cut two 90-degree triangles from the black and white striped paper that came in the kit. Then I sprayed a piece of smooth, white cardstock with the Coloringz and grabbed an old punch to make a lacy border around my triangles.

Then I die-cut some sweet flowers for embellishing.

I grabbed a few more embellishments from my stash. But not too many because I wanted this layout to stay soft and minimal.

After I added my title and journaling, I finished it off with some back splatters using the fabulous Color Splash in BLACK HOLE. This instantly became one of my favorite products. Color Splash is a wonderful way to get a sprinkle of color that sits on top of the paper rather than soaking in. And it dries dimensional! How awesome is that?!

Thank you so much for stopping by. I hope I've inspired you to use your Shimmerz products to create die-cut and punched embellishments for your next layout.

Awesome Buds | Lorimar Ortega | Cocoa Vanilla Studio No Limits

 Hello Shimmerz Paints Pals,

Today's layout will show you just how easy it is to make a stunning mixed media layout. I used papers and embellishments from Cocoa Vanilla Studio No Limits collection and 2 4x4 photos, but you can use anything you have on hand.

Let's get started!

I began with a light gray-blue mixed media patterned paper from the collection and a rainbow striped paper. The first one will be used as a based while the other will be used to add color unto the layout as a layering piece and mats for my photos.

On the base I sprayed You're The Zest, No Yolkin', Sapphire, Freshly Squeezed and Caribbean Sunset. For an added mixed media effect, I splattered Sapphire and Caribbean Sunset as well. While the base dried, I trimmed my photos to measure 3.75x3.75 and matted them with the yellow side of the rainbow paper. After cutting a strip of the same paper, I tore one of the long edges off and distressed the other three; this was glued down horizontally in the bottom center of the page.

Both pictures were popped up on craft foam and placed at an angle on top of the rainbow paper. I then began to add in the embellishments and journaling. Finished off the layout with some splashes of Christmas Cheer, and done!

Thank you so much for joining me today! Remember, by writing "Lorimar" in the comments section of your next Shimmerz order, you can get a freebie!

Take care,

Lorimar

June 2022 Color Kitz | Brianna Lepper

Hey friends!  Brianna here today sharing a new layout using the super amazing June 2022 Color Kitz.  This kit is so bright and beautiful and is so perfect to document so many Summer memories.  Here's my layout:

I always cut my cut file first and decided that I wanted to back it using pieces that I painted using the colors in the kit.  So while I was still in my Silhouette software, I offset the inner pieces so that they were the perfect size to back the cut file.  As soon as everything was finished cutting, I painted the flowers using the pinks (Gladiola and Moulin Rouge) and painted the leaves using the greens (Hermit the Frog and Don't Citron Me).  I did add some of the Lapis Dance Creameez to one of the flowers just to break up the pink a bit.

While I was painting each piece, I made sure to add some shading to give them all some interest.  Once they were finished drying, I backed the cut file and popped the entire piece on foam tape.

I thought I would create a fun background by using only the Lapis Dance Creameez and the Bubblez from the kit.  I spread out some texture paste on a piece of white cardstock and carefully poured the Bubblez right on top.  I pressed them into the paste to make sure they stuck.  I could have mixed the paste with the Bubblez to create something similar to the Liquitex Glass Bead gel but I would try this technique and I love how it turned out.  Once all of the Bubblez were applied, I added the Lapis Dance right on top, added some water and painted it across the page.

Here's another shot of the Bubblez.  I love all of that texture!

Next, I created my embellishment clusters using the Dotz from the kit as starters for each cluster.

I used the Sunkissed collection from Cocoa Vanilla to embellish my page.  It matches so nicely with my photo as well as the Color Kit.

Here's one last shot of this colorful layout:

Thank you so much for stopping by today, I hope that I've inspired you in some way!  Check out my process video below and make sure to add my name to the notes/comments section of all of your Shimmerz Paints orders and you'll receive a small freebie with each order you place.  See you next month friends!

Hello Summer | Shimmerz Paints Color Kitz May 2022 | Lorimar Ortega

Hello Shimmerz Paints Fans!

Today's layout features the oh-so-stunning May Color Kitz (click on the name to grab it before it sells out). I decided to focus on the colors, vellum flowers, and dots for my layout, but know that there are 2 cut files included with your purchase. Also, remember to type my name (Lorimar) in the comments section of your next order to be able to receive a freebie!

Let's get started with the process. I began with a non-gessoed sheet of white cardstock and sprayed No Yolking and Palm Reader in a grid-like format; then, I splattered For Shore and Meet Me At Sunset on top. While this dried, I dove into my stash and picked out embellishments which were green, yellow, or neutral in color AND/OR had a summer-y feel to them. For an extra pop of color, I colored the vellum flowers with Palm Reader and Here I Yam.

The arrangement of my layout is basically a grid format with the larger photo on the upper right-hand quadrant and the smaller ones in the center and lower left hand side. The bigger embellishments were nestled into the open spaces and the rest were arranged around those. The vellum flowers were layered beneath some of the embellishments in places that needed a pop of orange and green. I was inspired by the cut files from the color kit to use up some lemons and I was so thankful that I had stashed them. Then I popped some Dots around the layout. To finish off my layout, I wrote the journaling with a green marker and added some doodles here and there as well, and splattered Here I Yam and For Shore to tie everything together.

That's it! I had loads of fun with this layout and hope that I've inspired you!
Take care,
- Lorimar
