Happy fall | Anna Komenda

Hello all mixed media fans. It's Anna here with my newest tutorial with fantastic Shimmerz products. This month I created a fall layout inspired by changes in nature, that are happening right now around me.

I took white cardstock, covered it with gesso and used several mists like Vibez and Spritz to create stains in few fall colors. You can find them all in the end of this post with the links to the shop.

I chose two pictures of my daughter throwing leaves in the park. It was really warm and beautiful day and she was so cheerful. I wanted to add more leaves around the pictures as a tribute to the photos.

I used Silhouette Cameo to cut them using pattered paper and a watercolor paper. I colored watercolor paper leaves using Aqua Huez and Inklingz.

I really like this page and how messy it looks. Like a leaves threw away by my daughter.

Happy Tuesday, Shimmerz fans! I have a layout to share with you today that I created using Acritonez, Coloringz, and Aqua Huez! 

I started by choosing a black and white patterned paper sheet that had small hearts on it from my stash. I used some Acritonez in "3 Sheets To The Wind" and a dry paintbrush to drag the self-priming acrylic paint across the main part of my background paper. This helped add a little texture and prepped the paper for some Coloringz spray ink and Aqua Huez.

Next, I used some Aqua Huez watercolors in "Little Lily", "African Violet", and "Green with Envy" and blotted them around my page using a paper towel and some water for a subtle effect. I also added a little bit of Acritonez self-priming acrylic paint in "Pinkadelic" for a bolder pop of color.

I layered an all white cut file on top of my background design and placed the photos of my blooming Red Bud tree near the middle. I also used some Coloringz spray ink in "Punked Up Purple" and "No Yoking" to add some accent color splotches around my layout.

I added a few floral die cuts from Pink Paislee, some enamel dots, and some chipboard stickers for my embellishments to complete my page!

LO "Don't grow up" by Anna Komenda

Hello mixed media fans. It's Anna here today with colorful and fun layout without any pattern paper. I am a big fan of rainbow designs and love using many vibrant colors on one page. This time I went crazy with Shimmerz and created simple background.

I used white cardstock from American Crafts and I just simply painted five strips with flat brush. No gesso or any special paper. Really fast and easy way of creating a matching background. Don't forget to mix your Shimmerz paints before use. I also recommend you to air dry the paper. It won't wave as much as the one dried with heat gun.

Second step with this page was to cut about 25 butterflies using metal die or cutting machine. Pick a watercolor paper because You will need to apply a lot of water on it.

Use Colorings, Inklings or Aqua Huez to color the butterflies. Try different shades to make butterflies more dimensional. Let the air dry for better effects.

I used sewing machine to stitch down my butterflies but if you don't have one, drop of glue will be just fine.

Last step - embellishing! Dive into those stickers and ephemera piles to find the ones in matching colors. It is always my most favourite part of creative process.

Wild About You | Adrienne Alvis

Hello, crafty friends! I'm here today with a layout to share that I created using some Coloringz, Aqua Huez, and Acritonez and a few wild photos, ha ha!

As you can tell from the photos that I chose to use, I was really inspired by the "jungle theme" and the colors from my daughter and her dance group's outfits! I used some Coloringz in Keep Palm, a non-shimmering, highly pigmented spray ink, to create a light green, earthy background using the packaging technique and then layered some Aqua Huez in 14 Carrots on top of the Keep Palm for a little added color contrast. 

For my title, I simply grabbed a few foam letter stickers from my stash and took a dry paintbrush and some Acritonez in Shimmerz Tar, Tar and swiped the paint across in a striped pattern. After the Acritonez self-priming acrylic paint dried on the letters, I used some more of the Aqua Huez in 14 Carrots, which is a non-shimmering watercolor, to add some orange to coordinate with my page. 

I placed several die cut palm leaves around the photos and sprinkled a few ink splatters around using some Coloringz in Night Moves. 

I embellished my layout by adding some orange enamel dots around the black ink spatters and placing two large wood veneer sentiment pieces at the top and bottom of my page.

This color scheme was a little out of my comfort zone, but I just love how well it coordinated with the photos of my daughter and her dance group, don't you? Thanks so much for joining me and I hope you have a wonderful day! 

Underwater layout with Anna Komenda

Hello Shimmer fans. It's Anna here with my next project created with fabulous paints and mists. To be honest - when I started creating this page, I didn't know how it will end. I had this cute picture of y daughter in the swimming pool and I had this cute mermaid from Crate Paper collection. All I knew is that I want them together on one page.

For my mermaid layout I needed to create whole sea of water. I used watercolor paper and sprayed it with mists. I used wet brush to blend them together.

I wanted bubbles so I added this fun bubble foil. I sew it with sewing machine but it can be tricky. Foil is stopping the step from moving. But there is a solution - put a piece of vellum on top of your foil, sew through it and after sewing is done - just tear off the vellum. I also made some bubbles on my background using Dazzlers and stencil.

To get more whimsical effect I painted seaweed using all sorts of green paints. All my underwater layout needed right now was a little of embellishing.

Thanks to paints and mists I created colorful and busy design with almost no patterned papers. This is what I love the most while working with paints. You can make any kind of design using any color scheme in just a minutes.

Layout "Fantastic" | Anna Komenda

Hello Shimmerz fans. It's Anna here with my next project created with gorgeous Shimmerz products. 

Today I want to share with You a layout full of hand painted flowers. I've gone wild with drawing, painting and fussy cutting many florals. I had so much of them, that I didn't need to add a lot more embellishments to my page :)

I am not a watercolor artist, I didn't take any classes, I am no expert at all. I just love flowers and decided to give them a try. I watched few YT videos about painting flowers. I also checked some flower sketches to get some ideas about shapes and forms. I sketched my own flowers. They are not the copy of real flowers - just a variation.

I used a lot of Aqua Huez and Creameez to color my sketches but I also used mists as a liquid watercolors. I mixed colors to get new shades. I chose two small pictures of me and my little girls because, after all that work, I didn't want to cover the background.

I used a hot glue to attach the flowers. It helps to add dimension to the page without using 3D foam squares. Just be careful with You fingers. I lost my thumb prints long time ago :D

I like using multiply colors so I painted flowers using blue, pink, red and purple. Leaves and twigs combine all the flowers together creating this "wildflower bouquet" effect.

I really love how this page turned out. It's quite thick - perfect for framing and hanging on the wall.

Abstract Party Art Journal Spread | Zinia Amoiridou

Hello shimmery friends! It's Zinia again to share with you another fun art journaling spread I created using some yummy Shimmerz products.

So before we get to the project let's take a look at the products I used: (please excuse my typo, I noticed it a bit too :P)

I chose a bunch of bright and happy colors to create an abstract page. Although I wanted to work with abstract shapes and color blocking, I also tried to give a party theme to my spread.

I started by priming my page with a thick layer of gesso. Then before the gesso dried, I started mixing in some of the colors. I wanted to gradually build up the color starting from some lighter shades so I used the gesso that was on the page to create lighter shades of my colors.

After the first shapes were in place, I started adding some texture to the page using my most favorite Paste-eez color, Raspberry Sherbet and some texture paste.

I kept building color and texture till I was happy with the result. For the final touches I added some scribbles with a black and a white pen. I didn't even pay much attention to the words I used, I just wanted the messy texture of the handwriting on the page.

It's a really fun and easy process. Just adding color here and there until the whole page comes together.

Hello, Shimmerz Paints fans! I'm here today sharing a layout that I created using lots of lovely Aqua Huez and Creameez colors...

I started by using my Silhouette to cut out a bunch of hearts from white cardstock. I added water to the Aqua Huez and Creameez colors that I chose to use and then took a watercolor brush and lightly dripped water onto a 12x12 piece of white card stock to create my background. I dabbed the cardstock with a paper towel to soften the look before adding the more saturated drips.

After everything dried, I placed the hearts on my page in a vertical design and then added my photo to the bottom right.

I used a white foam sentiment sticker from American Crafts for part of my title and altered the color of it by dry brushing some Paste-eez dimensional paste on top of it using a paintbrush.

The Tree Hugger Paste-eez color is a gorgeous, bright aqua and paired well with the color scheme of my page!

I also dry brushed the Paste-eez on the smaller foam stickers that I placed in the middle of watercolored hearts...luckily, I had just enough stickers for each heart!
