Hello my fellow Shimmerz Siren’s, it’s me Joyce.  Here today to share some Happy Mail for a dear mixed media mistress.  Pssst… I hope her package makes it to her mailbox before this post is published. 

Years ago, when I moved into my 1925 home, I found in the trash container a number of very old black scrapbooks. It was a joyful day to find I had moved into a fellow artists’ home! I browsed through her small snippets of watercolor images, her written stories published in old magazines, poetry and small plays. This was indeed a treasure trove to me.  And, as I was spring cleaning this week, I came across these scrapbooks again. I stopped working and spent a few hours going through them and tearing out pages of old magazines…. And this little mini fabric/junk journal was created in a day…a very long day. 

This fabric/junk journal is also a mini kit I prepared for a dear mixed media mistress. Inside each of the Glassine bags are remnants of fabric, lace embroidered fabric, embroidery thread, bulb clips with tear drops of pearls, beads and rhinestones I assembled to use as little embellishments, and some aged fabric flowers too. I know she’ll create something beautiful this this mini kit. 

The page above features one of the old torn out paper clippings. I loved the title! I spritz under the white doily a combination of Vibez-Princess, and Spritz-Rock a Fella Blue to achieve a periwinkle color. 

On the page above, I applied some dried floral on top of textured cardstock, and applied a thick coating of matte gel to hold it town and receive some more of the periwinkle color concoction. I adore how this treatment turned out, and you will see me use this idea again.  

The  lacy page above was originally intended to be an internal page of the book, but in the end it became the title page.  After laying down a piece of Pellon (found in fabric stores and used as a stay in collars) on top of watercolor paper and sewed down, I applied many different pieces of laces and applied matte gel on top of them and let it dried thoroughly.  Paint brushes loaded up with Inklingz-Pugnacious Purple, Inklingz-Precious Posey, Treasured Hymm, and the same periwinkle color concoction were applied sporadically over the lacy bits. I then used a stiff brush loaded with gesso and pounded the brush down on top of the paints and beads to soften the colors.  

The music sheet page features a piece of white lace and a white flower that were spritzed with the periwinkle concoction and pretty Spritz Tuscan Sun.  A few more pages are featured on my blog should you wish to see them.

We are all a little broken....and that's okay.

Did you hear that Shimmerz Siren?  Yep, that was me Joyce.  Glad you found your way here to let me share some heart-stuff with you today.

You wouldn’t think that pages this size would include so many Shimmerz products….but they did.

And, I was only too happy to work and include them in my art journal entry entitled, “We’re all a Little Broken.”  One of my favorite things to do when working in old thrift shop books is to create my own backgrounds. 

The following Shimmerz products were used to age the book pages and work with the colors in the photo: 

Shimmeringz- Heavy Metal

Vibez – Blushing Bride

Sptriz - Treasured Hymm

The broken heart chipboard above was created with the new Acritonez self-priming acrylic paint. After applying gesso on top of the chipboard, add light molding paste over a small pattern stencil and allow the product to dry. Then apply the Acritonez – Roses are Red paint on top of the chipboard and molding paste.  Then spritz on some Vibex- Blushing Bride to add some depth in the color. Using a small paint brush add Inklingz- Brass Knuckles, and Inklingz- I Love You Onyxly around the raised molding paste patterns to make the molding paste pattern stand out. Some rich Blingz – Gold Glimmer was lightly added around the circumference of the broken heart.

And finally, I used another new product, Paste-eez dimensional paint. Above, this paint was spread over a small heart stencil. When the product dried, I shaded the three little dimensional hearts with Inklingz- I Love You Onyxly and a very small paint brush to make them stand out gloriously.

I hope I have inspired you to visit your local thrift shop and re-purpose an old book using the gorgeous Shimmerz paint line.

A Fun Fall Canvas & Video Tutorial

Hi Shimmerz Fans, Gabrielle here with you today to share a canvas I made using Fall leaves, some Gesso and a few Shimmerz Paints products!  Winter has come way to fast this year and I wanted to get this Autumn project done before there weren't any usable leaves left on the ground.  I managed to find a few after doing a little hunting around in my backyard.

These are the Shimmerz products I used on this project:

~ Hot Fudge Vibez

~ Bamboo Leaf Spritz

~ Tuscan Sun Spritz

I just love the effect the gold 'Miner Miner 49er' Inklingz gives to the leaf and relief parts of the canvas.  One of the cool things about Inklingz is that as you let the water sit in the paint cake, and the more you stir, the thicker and more luxurious the paint becomes.  Then it's easy to 'dry brush' the metalic gold effect on your raised surfaces of your canvas design.

Masking with Shimmerz is so much fun

My use of Shimmerz is very simple on this layout but it creates a major effect. I used a doily I found in the kitchen the other day to create my background using Spritz in Licorice. Then I used Vibez Razzle Dazzle Berry, and Sea Foam Spritz to create the paint splatter look.

Here I used Treasured Hymn to change the pretty Prima flower to match the other embellishments.





So go dig in your kitchen drawers and find something to use as a mask and create something with your Shimmerz Paints.

Spritz & Vibez, Shimmerz Paint & Glitter

Today I thought I'd show you how I used Shimmerz Paint, Spritz and Vibez to add a bit of depth to this Easter Page.

As I was building my page, I decided that my background needed some sprucing up. Here is what it looked like BEFORE *Please excuse the nighttime photos.*



And here is what is looked like AFTER. It's amazing how much depth you can add to a background just by pulling out your paints and mists!



I used Weatherd Wood Tim Holtz Crackle Paint to add a "frame" around the patterned paper layer and then spritzed the background with Snow Storm Vibez for a whitewashed, shimmery feel. But that's not all! I also added drips of Cotton Candy Spritz. I love the distressed and soft feeling it adds!






I also used Pink Shimmerz Paint to add some color to my chipboard pieces on this page.

The Prima letters are cream and were feeling washed out on my page and decided to add a little color to them. First, I sanded them lightly to rough up the coating on the letters and then I painted them with Pink Shimmerz. While the paint was wet I sprinkled clear craft glitter over them. Finally, I sealed them with a Matte Finish Spray. I LOVE how they turned out. A little shabby, a little distressed, but full of beautiful sparkle!



I wanted the Maya Road "love" chipboard piece to match the Prima chipboard letters, so here is what I did.

First, I gave the chipboard piece a base coat of white acrylic paint.



Next, I used a script stamp (this one is by 7 Gypsies) and black ink to add a little pattern. I then misted it with Treasured Hymn Spritz to make it off-white like the Prima letters. I could stop here if I wanted it to look like the original chipboard letters.




But I continued on with the Pink Shimmerz Paint and glitter to make it match the letters on my page.





And here is how the final piece looks! :)

Spritz and Pearlz and Blingz . . . Oh, My!

I had so much fun layering these three together to create my embossed, "fluffy" clouds on this page. :)

First, I handcut my clouds from white cardstock and embossed them using my Cuttlebug. When I held my clouds up to my page they were too bright against the other off-white elements of my page.I used Treasured Hymn Spritz to tone them down and give them an antinqued wash feeling.




Next, I added Morning Mist Pearlz along the edges of the clouds. I like how it made them feel more dimensional. The final touch was a coat of Pixie Dust Blingz. Now my clouds are sparkly and magical! :D I wish I could take pictures to do them justice! They are so sparkly and FUN!!! The felt layered butterflies are also sparkling with a coat of the Pixie Dust Blingz . . . what a versatile paint!



If you don't have any Pixie Dust Blingz or your unsure of which one to try first . . . Pixie Dust Blingz goes with EVERYTHING! :D You will love it!

On this next page I used a doilie as a mask and then misted my background paper with Shimmerz Bed of Roses Spritz and Hot Fudge Vibez. Again, I used Pixie Dust Blingz on the title letters to make them sparkle. :)

A Shimmery Christmas

I love playing around with vintage images. When I found a Christmas Postcard kit by Crafty Secrets, I knew that they needed some Shimmerz to really shine!


First, in order to distress the images a little bit, I spritzed with Treasured Hymn. This is such a cool spritz. It immediately tones down any stark white images and gives them a beautiful slightly distressed look. Next, using Under the Sea Blingz, I added some texture and sparkle to my birds and other blue images. Aren't those birds gorgeous?


On the next ornament, I really got into Shimmerz and painted Santa's outfit with Royal Red so that it would stand out more. I also painted Gold Glimmer on Santa's furry spots to add texture. For dimension, I painted a chipboard star using Royal Red and I stamped a few holly leaves and painted them in with Celery.


The chunky, vintage-glass glitter quality of Gold Glimmer Blingz really shows up in my close-up.


I used Gold Glimmer Blingz again on another Santa along with Under the Sea Blingz on his gifts.

Santa Stop Here Sign

Hi Everyone! Jana here! I created this fun doorhanger using a wood plaque sign from the Dollar Tree. I love creating door hangers! They are the perfect decoration to spread a little Christmas cheer in an unexpected place. :) And what Christmas project wouldn't be complete without a little shimmer and shine?!!

The paper pieced Chrismtas Tree is painted with Pixie Dust Blingz. The cream cardstock background is spritzed with Treasured Hymn, Mudpie and Licorice Spritz.
