Snapshot | Lorimar Ortega | Shimmerz Paints June Color Kitz 2022 with Vicki Boutin Sweet Rush

Have you picked up the June 2022 Color Kitz yet? It is truly stunning, and that cutfile is just to die for! Today's layout features lots of mixed media and layers so sit tight and read on on how to acchieve it.

I started off with this gorgeous black and white patterned paper from Vicki Boutin's Sweet Rush collection. On it I sprayed Practice What You Peach and Sunset Strip. I also splattered Frosty Buns and Practice What You Peach using a brush. I set the base aside to dry while I worked on the butterfly cutfile. 

This cutfile is so versatile since it can be used in a variety of ways. I used all 6 layers and cut them all out the same size which is roughly 6x6. I can colored each layer a different color in order to achieve a more dimensional look. The butterfly itself will end up with a thickness similar to a chipboard thicker, but I also popped it up some more using craft foam between the 2 and 3 layers. Let's take a break from the cutfile to work on the base once more.

Once my base was dry, I used the ferns stencil and molding paste to make yet another mixed media layer. This I made in a diagonal from left to right. While this dried, I began to prep my photo. Since my photo is very bright and a bit on the neutral side, I decided to mat with a scrap piece of cardstock which I colored with Pip Pip Cheery-o. When it dried, I matted my picture and added craft foam beneath it.

Finally, we have reached the point of assembling the layout. I began by adding the butterfly at an angle and situated my photo to the upper right hand corner of it. Then came the process of adding in some colorful embellishments, all of which are from Vicki Boutin's Sweet Rush collection. To finish off my layout, I splashed some Practice What You Peach and Frosty Buns all around my layout.

Hello Sunshine | Shimmerz Paints Layout | Vicki Boutin Sweet Rush

 Hello Shimmerz Family!

Today's layout features bright, bold colors in an 80's sort of vibe style. I was inspired by the pops of orange, blue and green in my picture, and paired it with the Vicki Boutin Sweet Rush Collection.

Here we go!

Using a 12x12 sheet of white textured cardstock, I sprayed Freshly Squeezed, Don't Cintron Me and Sapphire. Then, for added depth and color variation, I sprayed Pop Art Pink, Jenni B Blue, Hermit the Frog. Finally I splashed some Gladiola (only available in the June Color Kitz at the moment). 

I set my base aside and began collecting the embellishments that I wanted to use from the Vicki Boutin Sweet Rush Collection, and I fussy cut some florals and butterflies from two of her patterned papers. Matted my 4x6 photo with a black-and-white striped paper from the same collection and popped it up on craft foam.

Once everything was dried, it was a breeze to assemble the layout as you see in the photo. I added some Dotz from Shimmerz Paints. A quick note is that some of my embellishments were popped up on craft foam for added dimension.

Forever | Shimmerz Color Kitz April 2022

 Hello Shimmerz Fans,

    Isn't the April Color Kitz just uber cute? I truly believe it's my most favorite kit to date; I've swooned over those gorgeous blues and purples, and that pop of green is really something! My layout, this time, is a mixed media overload so I've divided up the process into areas rather than documenting it in chronological order. Here we go!

#1 - Base -

    I began with a white sheet of textured cardstock and added It's A Boy and Colder Than Ice in brushstrokes on the right hand side of the base. To create that artsy look, I used a scraping tool to smoosh the two blues together.

#2 - Green Mat - 

    To balance out the blues and pick up on the green blouse that I was wearing in the pictures, I cut a scrap piece of cardstock to roughly 6x5. Then I punched 2 of the edges with a notebook punch, and sprayed and splashed Keep Palm on it.

#3 - Sequined Hearts

    I had some leftover heart negatives from a cutfile I had previously used so I put them to good work by adding glue to them and then pouring the sequins (from the kit) on them. They will serve as embellishments.

#4 - Embellishments -

    For the first time in a long while, I actually sat down at my desk and pre-planned my layout. I began to pull out random embellishments from Cocoa Vanilla Studios, Pebbles, Simple Stories, Vicki Boutin, Paige Evans, and American Crafts that fit the color scheme from the Color Kitz and the overall theme of my layout. I also picked out some lavender, periwinkle and white thread to add in.

Assembling my layout

    Starting off with my base, I prepped it, I then layered in some of the of the ephemera and the green mat beneath my pictures (sized 4x4 and matted with patterned paper and craft foam for dimension). Afterwards, I added in all the embellishments, popped up the sequined hearts on craft foam and stuck on the Dotz from the Color Kitz. Finished the layout off by splattering some more of the gorgeous colors and writing in my journaling.

Falling for These Moments | November Color Kitz | These Days Cocoa Vanilla Studios Collection

Hello Shimmerz Family!

As the days continue to cool down (at least on my side of the world) and we are gearing up for the upcoming family festivities, it is always great to take some time to enjoy the extraordinary ordinary moments with our loved ones. Today's layout features all the components of the superbly gorgeous November Color Kitz which you can purchase here; I also have a process video on my channel.

It was fairly simple and quick layout to make, so let's get started!

I began with a sheet of textured, white cardstock which I had prepped beforehand with clear gesso (white gesso will work just as well here, too!). Once the gesso was dry, I sprayed Rock-A-Fella Blue unto the background, followed by splatters of Tarnished Treasure and Greener Pastures. While my base was drying, I began to work with the leaves (cutfile included in the Colorz Kitz) which I colored with Egg Noggin', Tarnished Treasure, and Golden Wheat. After they were dry, I backed with a wood patterned paper from the Cocoa Vanilla Studios These Days Collection.

Once all my elements were dried, it was all downhill from here and very easy to assemble. I first stuck down the text cutfile in the center of the base and added a photo on either side (each photo was matted on patterned paper and popped up on craft foam). Then I arranged two leaves and some embellishments around the photos. Added in the Dotz and splattered some extra Rock-A-Fella Blue and Golden Wheat to finish things off. Journaling was added beneath the title of the cutfile using gold ink.

That's My Boy | Color-melting with Shimmerz Paints | Echo Park Paper | Lorimar Ortega

Hello everyone!

It's Lorimar, sharing this lovely "color-melting" layout with you today. I used a patterned paper from Echo Park's That's My Boy collection as an inspiration for layout as I wanted to make a colorful layout without going down rainbow road (LOL). I'll list all the colors I used in here (so it's easier to walk you through it): Oakie Dokie, Butter Cream, Bamboo Leaf, Keep Palm, Mustard Seed, Pumpkin, Anchors Away, Peacock's Plume, Ultra Marine, Gold Glimmer, and Pool Me Closer.

Here's what I did: as I rummaged through my stash, I found a patterned paper from Echo Park that featured a lot of color and patterns. It's actually the "cover page" from the collection; they are typically printed on shiny glossy paper, but this one was actually the A Side to the 3x4 Journaling cards. I fussy-cut around the hexagons and left the logo in to serve as my title. My idea was to use the colors from the paper and create a layout that looked like the color had melted down; and that's exactly what I did!

Using a Vicki Boutin foundations paper, I added water to the bottom of the paper (so my colors to blend and spread better) and began adding in each of the colors. I specifically used Butter Cream in between the bolder colors so the blending came out more fluid. Towards the bottoms of each of the color strips, I splashed a bit of each of the colors.

Once it was dried, it was all a matter of adding in my pictures (matted on red metallic cardstock, popped up on craft foam and placed on either side of the title) and sprinkle in a few embellishments (so as not to cover up to much of the mixed media.
