Merry | Green, Orange, Gray Shimmerz Paints Products

 Hello Shimmerz Fans,

Today's layout features a play on words; basically I've used a Christmas-related word for a Summer themed layout. It's all explained down below; you can grab the Shimmerz Products I used HERE and watch the process video HERE.

I began by adding gesso to a sheet of white cardstock and selected my 3 main colors for mixed media, orange, green and gray, which pair well with the colors from the photos. In Shimmerz terms, these color were Freshly Squeezed, Carrot Top, Don't Citron Me, Honey Do List, Granny Gray, and Thunderstorm. I wanted to created a horizontal spread of colors so I held the base up in the air while spraying the three colors. While they were still wet, I tilted and turned the page every which way to that they would spread and blend a bit. Afterwards, some splatters of the same colors were added to their own section.

While the base was drying, I began to hand stitch the switchable Merry cutfile (grab it here) with some red thread; once done, I cut out the excess cardstock and popped it up on craft foam. I also backed my photos with red cardstock to match the cutfile. Now came the other fun part! I dove up my stash of embellishments for those that were orange, green and/or gray (mainly used those from Paige Evan's Bungalow Lane and Pebbles Kid At Heart collections. I assembled my layout like you see in the pictures and called it done! Through and through, it was a quick and easy layout to complete. Close-ups are done below!

That's it! Thank you so much for joining me today; I hope I've inspired you in some way to get your story documented. Be sure to use my name (LORIMAR) in the comments section of your next Shimmerz Order so you can receive a freebie!

Hooray for Halloween!

I don't know about you, but FALL and Halloween are two of my favorites things in life. There is something miraculous about the metamorphosis of the hot, hot summer melting away into the cooler and more colorful Fall.
And what isn't to love about Halloween? Trips to the pumpkin patch, corn mazes, warm apple cider and all of those cute little ghosties trick or treating....and I can't forget the candy!
So for the rest of the month, the Shimmerz DT is going to be sharing some fabulous, shimmery, spooky and creative Halloween ideas...BUT we want YOU to play along with us.
What's in it for you? How about the chance to win a spooktacular Shimmerz prize pack that Stacey has so generously put together. Complete with all the colors you will need to create your own Halloween projects, this prize could be yours if you play along:

Simply create a Halloween project using Shimmerz products and link it to this post. We will be picking a winner on the spookiest day of the year: Halloween!

Here is a project to help get your creative mojo flowing:
Here is a spooky layout of my daughter all dressed up as a dark fairy and she ummm fit the mood perfectly! I used several different Shimmerz products and techniques to create this layout. First I painted the background using a foam brush with our new Luscious Lilac Pearlz.

Then I wanted to add some spurts of orange on there...and what better color than our new Carrot Top Pearlz? I smeared a bit on the corners with my fingers, then used the tip of my finger to fling paint across my page. I like that kind of sporadic look and the texture. The pearlz paints are nice and thick, just perfect for creating little pools of color!

And no project is complete without a large dosing of BLINGZ. I used it here on top of a cut out flocked crow. He was just begging for some Hi Ho Silver Blingz!
And once again, the final shimmery project:

I invite YOU to come create along with us and don't forget to LINK to this post! HAPPY HALLOWEEN!

Shimmery Shiny Buttons

Hi ladies, I have a simple fun way to make your own buttons using any of your Shimmerz products. I love the bare elements line by Creative Imaginations. These are called pointes. They are adhesive backed and ready to be altered.

For this project I am using Shimmerz Pearlz "Carrot Top", and Blingz "Pixie Dust", a paint brush (small), a 1/8th inch punch, and a fine tip black pen.

You need to decided which color you want your buttons to be. Simply peel the pointe off the back of the clear sheet, use your paint brush and apply a generous amount of paint to the adhesive back.

Allow it to completely dry. It will take about 20 minutes or less.

Now you can do this two ways. If you desire more bling you can add your Blingz to the adhesive side first, then come behind it with the Pearlz once it drys. I did it both ways. Also keep in mind you can adhere a patterned paper behind your button once your Shimmerz drys for an even different look.

this is the button with the Blingz "Pixie Dust" applied first.
And once it dried I applied the Shimmerz Pearlz "Carrot Top" to the back. So basically you can reverse the steps of paint application for different levels of shine.

Next you will take your dry buttons and eye ball where you want your buttons holes

then punch your button holes

and voila you have a gorgeous custom button to match your projects.

And her is my project using these buttons

I hope you are inspired to go and customize something for your project using your Shimmerz.

Shimmerz helps out with a little HUG...

Hi everyone! This is Lolly (Shimmerz guest designer for the next couple-o-months)! I am super excited to share my first Shimmerz project with you!!!!

I was torn between sharing something with flowers (which are one of my absolute favorite things)... or a little tree... I decided to go with the flowers for now and we'll do the tree next time (that little tree is gonna steal your shimmery lovin' little hearts... I swears)!
Craft Goodies Used for this Project:
The Paper Studio
-
Chip Decor Letters
Petaloo - Color Me Crazy Flowers (awesome mega pack with enough flowers for multiple projects)

Cuttlebug - Quilling Flower Folders (Daisy & Chrysanthemum)
Assorted Gems
Shimm
erz - Vibez - Sunset Strip & Jeni-B-Bleu
Shimmerz - Spritz - Bed of Roses
Shimmerz Paints - A
qua Marine & Celery
Shimmerz -
Pearlz - Carrot Top, Sunny Side Up & Green with EnvyShimmerz Blingz - Hottie Pink (this color totally rocks!!!!)
(shop for Shimmerz HERE)
...I also used an assortment of craft acrylic paints to paint the chipboard letters 3 different colors of green!

Now let's get started for real!

I tend to test and play around with things when starting a project... just to make sure that the
way I see it in my head has a fighting chance to become reality.

My initial plan was to cover all of the chipboard letters with quilled flowers, but they looked too packed together and plain... plus they needed way more POP!

So I busted out this awesome pack of Petaloo flowers and laid about them as the foundation for the quilled flowers...

Then once I added a few of those quilled flowers on top of the Petaloo flowers... things really started to take shape!

My Mom dropped by for a visit (she's also known as MomChops over on my blog)... so I put her to work painting all of the Petaloo Flowers with a nice assortment of Shimmerz Paints...

When you come to my house you have to be ready to dig in and do some crafts... especially on Saturdays!

(any man, women or child who enters the craft room on a Saturday is in danger of being handed a pair of scissors or a paint brush)
(even my husband has fallen prey to this phenomenon)

I decided that the color for my quilled flower petals would come entirely from Shimmerz sprays..
I really wanted them to have a nice shimmery shine to them and the best way to do that was to start with plain white paper and spritz the heck out of them!

Once they were nice and dry...
I cut them into one inch strips so they could be run through my Cuttlebug quilling folders!

(if you have never seen the quilling folders in action and want to see a video demonstration... leave a comment here and let me know!)
(I'll put a little video together of how I made the flowers for this project and post it right here on the Shimmerz blog!!!)

MomChops painted the chipboard letters and ALL of the Petaloo flowers for me...
(I took her to lunch to thank her after we were done... she was plum tuckered out!!!)

41 fabulous shimmery quilled flowers and 42 fabulous painted and shimmery Petaloo flowers later...

I started assembling the whole thing!

I filled the centers of those flowers with bright sparkly gems and used some of the quilling leaves under each flower pair.

To get everything to stick together nice and tidy...
I used an assortment of liquid glue, ZipDry and a hot glue gun!

Here is the finished sign of HUGS!
(this little sign is going to be given as a birthday present to the daughter of a very dear friend of mine who likes lots of sparkle and nice bright colors)!!!!

...and here are a coupla more pics so you can check out the details a little better!

Thanks so much for dropping by and big thanks to Stacey and the whole DT for having me over for a visit! I had a blast! I'll be back in about a week with another project!

Have a great day!
