Colorful Autumn | Audrey Yeager

Hello and happy fall!!  One of my most favorite things about living the the Northeastern US is the changing of the seasons.  Our autumns are full of vibrance and color, and I wanted to capture that on my page using my Shimmerz products!

I began by covering my background patterned paper with gesso.  Then I added tried out some yellows mists as a base including Spritz in Chickadee and Tuscan Sun.  Then to deepen the shade, I added a Vibez in Rolling in the Hay.

Using a burst pattern stencil, I then went over the yellow base with some oranges, greens, and red shades including Coloringz Mandarin Mai Tai, Vibez in Palm Reader, and a Spritz in Caribbean Sunset

To add some texture, I started with some Dazzlerz in Coral Me Crazy, and mixed in some Mandarin Mai Tai and Caribbean Sunset to make a brighter orange color.  I used a palette knife to spread it through the stencil. Finally, I added a few splatters of Coloringz in Moody Mauve.

For embellishments, I punched some leaves from colored papers, and backed a cut file for the title.  A few little clusters of some chipboard trees, some wood veneers, and journaling to top it all off!

You can watch the whole process below:

Thank you and happy fall!!

Create Magic | Mixed Media Layout without Any Patterned Paper w/ Process Video

Hello everyone! Lorimar here sharing this super "messy" mixed media layout with you. Link to Process Video: https://youtu.be/on6FUoFhvEE

Have you had a chance to participate in our Spring Forward Challenge? It's a bit scary, at first, knowing that you can't use patterned paper, but I promise you, it's so fun to really push yourself and know that you make something just as amazing!

Here's my layout using the Spring Forward Challenge. Since I couldn't use patterned paper, I decided to up the ante and really use a lot of different mixed media products.

To begin, I chose a black cardstock as my base and added white acrylic paint with a palette knife to make a sort of frame beneath where my picture was going to be placed. After waiting for the paint to dry, I added Shimmerz in Mango Tango (Vibez), Jenni B Bleu (Vibez), Mustard Seed (Coloringz), and Hermit the Frog (Vibez) onto the white paint using the packaging technique, and added splatters of the same colors to the black cardstock.

If you look closely at my photo, my sons are playing with their toy cars in the midst of a big ol' mess. I don't mind the mess as long as they are playing and learning! In fact, it works out because the messiness served as inspiration for the "messy" vibe the overall layout has. After waiting for the Shimmerz to dry, I used a 12x12 star stencil and Dazzlerz in Gummy Beary Blue to add some texture and dimension to the layout. I've also used Dazzlerz Gold Mine with a Paige Evans Stencil to add even more interest and texture.

As soon as everything was dry, I dug into my stash for the eclectic array of embellishments that you see in the layout; I used ephemera, stickers, chipboard stickers, a bow, and wood veneers to further play on the boyish, messy theme. To tie everything together, I splattered some Pixie Dust (Blingz) all through-out the layout.

There you have it! Hope I've inspired you to join us in the Spring Forward Challenge. Let's get our stories documented.

Remember, you can receive some free paint if you write my name "LORIMAR" in the comments section of your next Shimmerz order.

Have a great day,
- Lorimar

'Be You' by Niki Rowland: Mixing Products

Hey there Shimmerz Fans! Niki here with you today with this layout that I made using lots of different Shimmerz products.

Firstly I was inspired by the a paper from one of the recent Pinkfresh collections and decided to use that as a base to my layout. I cut part of it out and then placed it onto a white background. My plan was to extend the coloured strips of paper with mixed media products.

I started off by using the packaging technique to apply Vibez in Pop Art Pink and Deep Blue Sea to the white background, as well as some Jilted Jade original Shimmerz. I kept testing out my paper against the background I was creating.

I then added different Dazzlers through stencils in similar colours, again extending the coloured areas. I used Dreamscicle, Sea U in the Mornin', and then I needed a rose gold colour which I didnt have in my stash, so I mixed Foiled Again, Gold Mine and Tutti Fruiti together to create this rose-gold. I then applied this through a stencil too. I then watered it down so that I could use it to add splatters.

Once my background was done and dry, I then added my photo, bits and pieces of ephemera and puffy stickers. I left no room for journaling so added that in right at the very top of the layout.

I hope you've enjoyed my layout today, there is a process video too that can be viewed below.

Products used:
Dazzlers Foiled Again
Dazzlers: Dreamscicle
Dazzlers: Sea U in the Mornin'
Dazzlerz Tutti Fruiti
Texturez: Gold Mine
Original Shimmerz: Jilted Jade
Vibez: Pop Art Pink
Vibez: Deep Blue Sea

Don't forget that if you place an order on the Shimmerz Website and put my name in the comments you will recieve a free gift :)

Happy scrapping xx

Dreams Are For Chasing | Adrienne Alvis

Hello, Shimmerz Paints fans! I'm here today with a layout that I created using some gorgeous Coloringz and Paste-eez!

I chose a piece of cardstock that I had used from a previous project that had been through my Silhouette machine and had nine large hearts cut out of it to use for my background design. I simply placed the heart cut-outs over another solid piece of cardstock and used some Coloringz in Pretty in Pink, Peachy Keen, and No Yoking to create an ombre effect on my page.

After the spray ink dried, I grabbed a triangle stencil from my stash and some Paste-eez, a smooth dimensional paste that has a flat finish, in Tree Hugger and placed a random pattern of triangles across the ombre hearts.

I layered my photo on top of some patterned paper tags and scattered some butterfly shapes that I fussy-cut and completed my page. I also sprinkled a few drops of Coloringz in Night Moves, which is black without any shimmer, to coordinate with the pops of black in the pattern papers I chose and my title, Dreams Are For Chasing.

Don't be afraid to get creative with your leftover scrap pieces, especially if they have shapes or images cut out of them! They make great stencils and page accents.

Thanks so much for joining me here and I hope you have a fabulous day!

Grateful | Adrienne Alvis

Hey, everyone! I had a great photo of me and my kiddos that was taken this past Mother's Day that I couldn't wait to scrap!

To begin, I used some Dazzlerz in Red-iculous and a heart stencil from my stash to create the slightly shimmering textured hearts on my background paper.

Next, I used the colors in the photo for my color scheme inspiration and chose some Coloringz spray inks from Shimmerz in Oh Say Can U Sea, Night Moves, and Mamma Sings the Blues to add some mist to my layout. I just lightly sprayed the Oh Say Can U Sea Coloringz spray paint on top of the texture paste once it was dry.

I added ink splatters in the Night Moves, a gorgeous matte black, and some in Mamma Sings the Blues for an added cool tone. I embellished my layout using some gold puffy hearts and black accents to coordinate with my overall color scheme.

I love how the hearts just pop off of the page, don't you? Thanks for stopping by today! I hope the rest of your week is lovely!

Just Jump | Adrienne Alvis

Hello Shimmerz fans! I'm here today with a fun layout that I created using some Coloringz, Vibez, and Dazzlerz paints...

I started by using a doily-shaped stencil from my stash and misting some Coloringz non-shimmering spray ink in Well Blue Me Down, No Yoking, and Mandarin Mai-Tai on a piece of white card stock. I also sprayed some Vibez shimmering spray ink in Blue Jeans as well to create the background.

After the mists dried, I layered my photos on top of the doily-shapes that I created with the stencils and mists and adhered them down using some foam dimensional adhesive.

I took another polka-dotted stencil from my stash and some Dazzlerz dimensional paste in Jelly Bean Green to create even more dimension on my page. The Dazzlerz paste has just the right amount of shimmer in it and I love how it helps add texture to my layout!

After the Dazzlerz dried, I layered lots of embellishments around my layout to accent my photos and bring out some of the lovely Shimmerz colors that I used.

I also layered a few patterned paper strips at the top and bottom of my page for even more color coordination!

Thanks so much for stopping by the Shimmerz blog! I hope you have a fabulous day!

The Princess Mix | Adrienne Alvis

Hey everyone! I'm here today with a layout that I created using some gorgeous Coloringz and Dazzlerz!

I love using these gorgeous Shimmerz items to create my own backgrounds for my layouts! To begin, I gathered some white cardstock, some Coloringz spray ink in Don't Citron Me and Oh Say Can U Sea, and a piece of plastic product packaging.

I used the "packaging technique" to get some color on my cardstock and after it dried, I applied some Dazzlerz dimensional paste in Grapetastic and Pucker Up Pink with one of my favorite stencils from my stash and created some hearts on top of the Coloringz...

The Dazzlerz are great for any project because they add just the right amount of dimension and have a smooth, shimmering effect. Next, I layered the photo of my daughter and her dance group on top of several different coordinating patterned papers and adhered it on my page using some dimensional adhesive.

I also added my title using some letter stickers and placed several gold shaped stickers from Pinkfresh Studio around the hearts for added dimension and to give my page an extra pop of color. I stitched along two corners of my layout using my sewing machine and some hot pink thread and layered the white cardstock on top of a piece of patterned paper from Crate Paper.

Thanks so much for joining me today and I hope I've inspired you to grab some Shimmerz and get creative!

Hello Little One | Adrienne Alvis

Hello and happy Tuesday, everyone! I'm here today with a layout I created using lots of Shimmerz paints, including one of the newest releases...Acritonez!!!

My newest niece was born this past Thanksgiving and I just love this sweet photo of her taken when she was just a couple of days old! I was really inspired to use some soft colors and gold accents so I started by using a stencil and some Dazzlerz in Tutti Frutti to create the heart background on my striped patterned paper.

I also used some Dazzlerz in Sea U In The Mornin', which is a lovely minty-aqua color, to transfer the sentiment "Love You To The Moon and Back" onto another piece of patterned paper. After the Dazzlerz dried, I used a piece of plastic packaging (aka "the packaging technique") to add some Coloringz mists in No Yoking and Pretty In Pink to that same piece of patterned paper. I added my title to the paper piece and layered a few die cut floral embellishments from Crate Paper around the photos of my niece and around my page.

I really love the color of the Tutti Frutti Dazzlerz and although it's really hard to see in the photos, the hearts turned out a little too bright for my taste on this particular layout. So to remedy the situation I decided to use some Acritonez in 3 Sheets To The Wind on top of the hearts to tone them down and it totally worked! I just took a small sponge and dipped it into the Acritonez and dabbed the white paint over the hearts. The dabbing effect also added a little extra dimension to my page as well, but it is a little hard to tell from the photos.

I completed my layout using some Oh Say Can U See Coloringz on top of the hearts using the packaging method once again and added a few more gold embellishments!

Shimmerz Paints Used: Acritonez - 3 Sheets To The Wind; Coloringz - No Yoking, Oh Say Can U Sea, Pretty In Pink; Dazzlerz - Tutti Frutti, Sea U In The Morning
