Happy Spring Day | 12x12 Mixed Media Layout using origami butterflies

Hello everyone!

Lorimar here, sharing this gorgeous, butterfly-filled 12x12 mixed media layout. I've used more or less the same color-scheme as that of the May Color Kitz. I played around with making some origami butterflies and also pulled out 4 different butterfly punches. Here's the process video: https://youtu.be/eMMF4TICjUI

Let's get started!
For my origami butterflies, I colored some leftover white cardstock with Paradise Punch, Mustard Seed, Bahama Mama, Limoncello, 1 Hot Mama, and Bumbly Bee; set it aside to dry. Be sure to let your cardtock/paper dry completely before folding it as it might tear easily if it's still damp.

Selected a sheet of Tutu Pink Bazzill cardstock and sprayed Snow Storm, Tuscan Sun, Cotton Candy, and Chick A Dee in a diagonal line from right to left. I did this to further give my layout some sense of movement. Set my base aside to dry and got to work on my butterflies.

I trimmed out (2) 2x2 inch, (2) 3x3 inch, (2) 3.5x3.5 inch squares to use for my butterflies. Here's the video I watched: Origami Butterflies. With the remainder of my leftover cardstock, I punched out a lot (and I do mean A LOT) of butterflies. My design for the arrangement of the butterflies was to emulate them fluttering off the page from right to left, so I began to place them all scattered around the page and pointing towards different places to try and convey movement.

The origami butterflies are very dimensional so they don't require craft foam; however, some of the other butterflies have to wings popped up on craft foam. To finish off my layout, I matted my picture with a layer of patterned paper, popped it up on some craft foam, added a few butterfly wood veneers, placed my title beneath my picture and wrote the date underneath it. For some extra sparkle, I scattered some Spiegelmom Scraps Sequins (Pink Promenade).

And that's it! I hope I've inspired you to get your stories documented, get your Shimmerz out and play! Thank you so much for looking and I'll see you back soon!

Have a great Shimmery day!

A Fantastic Day

I hope you are all doing well and having a fantastic day. Ericka here playing with the Shimmerz Lovely Balloons set with some Inklingz and Creameez.

I love this fun balloon set and all the beautiful creations you can make with it. I started by stamping the image on Bristol Smooth paper with Archival Ink.

I then went about painting it up in some fun cheerful colors. I used Creameez in Lettuce Get Together and Lapis Dance for the main part of the balloon. For the flowers, I used Creameez 1 Hot Mama and Ride the Tide and Emerald City Inklingz for the leaves.

Once my paper was dry, I used a black pen to trace over the lines and add a little shading. I love the banner and the fonts of the sentiments in this set. I used the same Creameez in Lapis Dance and Lettuce Get Together to color in a portion of the font and 1 Hot Mama for the banner.

To finish off the card, I added some clouds to the bottom of the card with some white sequins and a little white gel pen to the balloon.

My Valentine with Samantha Robles

Happy Valentines Day everyone! The wonderful day to celebrate love. Of course, every day is a great reason to celebrate love but how often do you get to use reds and pinks together? Really only on Valentines day, right? So I went ALL IN with today's layout.
I'm not gonna lie to you guys. Some of my favorite Shimmerz colors are the shades of pink we carry. Every shade of sweet pink you can imagine. I started the process with a 9" circle cut from my Cricut. Then add some gesso to it and leave it dry for about 20 minutes, or until no residue comes off on your fingers. During the dry time, I cut my heart circles cut file from Paige Evans.

Yay! Your circle now dry and ready for color. The colors used on this wheel of pink is:
and finally, Pink-A-Boo Inklingz

I always say with ombre, start with the dark first. Which of course is Ruby Spritz. I start by spraying one layer, then drying with a heat tool. Once it dries, I add another layer. Each color gets 2 layers of each color. The more layers you add, the more intense the color becomes. I didn't want it to be SUPER over the top though.

Once the ombre circle is totally dry, I glued the back of the heart file and placed it right on top. After adding some foam stickies to the back of the circle, I layer my photo on top with this cute velum from American Crafts. I've been hoarding it for a good 3 years now and I finally parted with it to bounce off the gold in the pillow in the photo. It ties all the colors together!

Once the circle is layered down, I add some of my Doodlebug Design Love Notes | Pick You Odds and Ends hearts. Some are glued down. Some are layered with 3d foam tape. I then write down all the things I love about my oh-so-cute 3 year old son, Oakley using the Doodlebug Love Notes Conversation Hearts Paper. The final touches are some splatters of Ruby Spritz, some enamel "Shimmerz Spotz" (Coming soon to the Shimmerz Shop), some Dotz, as well as some former alphabet stickers from American Crafts I've had stashed away.

I hope this get's you inspired to share the love today! Show everyone some color and love and it always comes back <3

Don't forget, if you spend $35.00 in the Shimmerz Shop this weekend, you get 10% off + a free 1 oz bottle of Sweet Heart Vibez. LOVE that!

XOXO

Sweet | Color Kit Cut File Layout with Process Video

Hello Everyone!

Thank you so much for joining me today and viewing how to make this "envelop explosion" layout. Ever since I first saw this gorgeous cutfile (designed by Samantha Robles for the February Color Kitz), I fell in love with it! I instantly knew that I wanted to create a layout which would convey the idea of a dropped envelope full of mementos with its contents spilling out, and after finding out memory I wanted to document, I got to work. So, let's get to it! (Process video is linked at the end of this post).

Since Valentine's Day is right around the corner, I wanted to use more pinks and reds in this layout, and in order to tie in the photos with my color scheme, I added a bit of blue into the mix. I began by cutting out the cutfile; Altered it a bit to have some extra hearts in various sizes and made sure that that envelope within the cutfile measured at least 4x5. This is so my pictures could really seem like that really did spill out of the envelope.

Then came the process of coloring all of the elements in my layout. Listed below are the colors and where I used them:
Background
- Peacock's Plume (Shimmerz)
- Coral Reef  (Inklingz)
- Cheeky Pink (Creameez)
- Pink Caviar (Shimmerz)
- Pink (Shimmerz)
- 1 Hot Mama (Creameez)
- Pip Pip Cherry-O (Shimmerz)
- Dear John Letter (Inklingz)
- Bubble Gum Blast (Shimmerz)
Hearts and Envelops Over Lay
- Razzle Dazzle Berry (Vibez)
- Cotton Candy (Spritz)
- Bed of Roses (Spritz)
- Jeni B Bleu (Vibez)
- Goldie Lox - (Shimmeringz)

Once all my items were dry and my pictures were matted on craft foam, I placed the envelope with the envelope cut file laid over it at the bottom left-hand corner followed by the pictures placed at an angle as if spilling from the envelope. Then I spent some time rearranging the hearts all around the pictures; some of the hearts are placed on craft foam, others laid on top of each others, and still others are glued directly unto the background.

After this, I added some pink, yellow and white sequins from Spiegel Mom Scraps that I had in my stash (Freezin' for a Reason). I then splattered some Miner, Miner 49er all around the layout to tie things together and add a pop of gold. Wrote my journaling on some scrap pieces of yellow cardstock and added a border around my layout using Jenni B Bleu and a brush.

I loved how this turned out! It had many processes, but I loved playing around with the colors and cutfile. Hope I've inspired you to get your story documented. Remember, you can get some free paint by writing my name in the comments section of your next Shimmerz order.

Mermaid Shimmerz | Ericka Strange

Hello Shimmerz Fanz! I hope your week is going well. Ericka here with a mermaid card I made using a variety of Shimmerz products. I love how easy it is to mix and match these products to create beautiful shine and colors in any project.

I started by creating the background for the mermaid. I wanted to see if I could get watery look with my Vibez and Shimmerz. I took Bristol Smooth paper and lightly sprayed water on one side and then using the end of the spray, took the Jeni B Bleu and Hermit the Frog and added color so that it would drip down the page. Once that layer dried, I used Shimmerz in Tickle Me Turquoise and Evergreen and added some more water and color to my brush to layer the shimmery color. While my background was drying, I stamped the mermaid and her little friends and heat embossed them with WOW Aventurine powder. This powder is a beautiful turquoise color with gold glitter which complements the Shimmerz perfectly.

I used the same Shimmerz in Tickle Me Turquoise and Evergreen and also added Bumbly Bee and 1 Hot Mama Creameez. I love how the Creameez blended with the Turquoise to give her purple highlights. Once everything was dry, I cut out my images and added them to my shimmery background.

Thanks for stopping by and feel free to check out my blog for more information on how I made my card. Don't forget to check out the new and beautiful August Kitz!

Shimmerz Unicorn | Ericka Strange

Hello Shimmerz fans and happy Tuesday! Ericka here today and I hope you made it through Monday and your week is going well.  Today I have a cute unicorn card I made using a variety of Shimmerz Paint products to make sure that my unicorn contained the most spark possible. After all unicorns and Shimmerz are know for their sparkle.

I started by stamping the Unicorn from Picket Fence in Fadeout Ink so that I could do some no-line watercoloring with Shimmerz, Creameez, and Inklingz. These little pots are perfect for watercoloring and pack a lot of color and shine.

For my background, I tried a little something different. I used a stencil with the Spun Sugar Dazzlerz which is a shiny paste. Then, before removing the stencil I sprayed the stencil with Chick-a-dee Spritz and Jeni B Bleu Vibez. I then sprayed a little Goldie Lox Shimmeringz all over the stencil to help the colors blend.

Once my background was dry, I used foam tape to adhere the unicorn and sentiment to the card base.

I love all the beautiful shine this card has and how well all of the Shimmerz Paints products work together to create a unique card for a special friend.

Thanks for stopping by and I hope you get a chance to create something beautiful. Don't forget to check out the new and beautiful August Kitz!

Sunny Days | Niki Rowland

Hey guys! Niki here today with a summery layout!  Instead of creating a mixed media background, I made a sheet of colour and then cut out shapes from those colours using my manual die cutting machine and metal dies. I've also used a free exclusive summer cut file by Paige Evans. It's a summer grid and it will be available FOR FREE on the Shimmerz Sharez Facebook Group this coming weekend: Friday 21st June 2019. Head over to the group to join and pick up this fabulous freebie.

I started off by adding four colours of Creameez to a white cardstock sheet:

I used the packaging technique to do this and then added splatters in the same colours. Once dry I ran the colours through my Big Shot with scalloped circle dies. This means I had lots of different sized circles in different colours..

I arranged the circles onto my layout. At this point I used the summer grid exclusive cut file by Paige. I cut the whole cut file as a 12x12 grid from a sheet of white cardstock. I then cut out five of the icons I wanted to use on this layout. I nestled them in between the mixed media circles and they look fab, becuase they show up great against the coloured backgrounds.

I added a Perspextive title by Bramble Fox and a black compass icon too. I added lots of little pieces of ephemera and stickers for my embellishing, from the Maggie HolmesSunny Days collection. There are also a few bits from Hip Kit club in there too.

When the layout was almost complete, I wasn't happy with the clean feel of it. Becuase I had cut out perfect shapes from the mixed media paper, the layout didn't have a mixed media feel about it...there was no Shimmerz coming from behind the circles and no splatters. So I added LOADS of splatters. I used the same four colours as listed above.

Still not satisfied, I added sequins too! I embellished, and splattered in a tone-on-tone fashion. Thank you so much for joining me today, I hope you have enjoyed my layout. I have also put together a process video for this layout which you can view below.

Don't forget that if you place an order via the Shimmerz website, enter my name in the comments and you will get a freebie.

Happy scrapping xx

Blessings in the Storm | Ericka Strange

Hello Shimmerz fans, Ericka here again with a rainy day watercolor card. I don't know about you, but here in Texas we've had our fair share of rain over the last couple of weeks. This cute set from Shimmerz called Blessing in the Storm is the perfect reminder to look on the bright side of things.

And isn't this dog is the cutest? And the sentiments are so fun!

I stamped the image in InkOn3 Fadeout ink so that I could try my hand at no line watercoloring. I started with spraying a little Chick-a-dee Spritz on my pallet and painted the yellow portions. I also used a little orange on my pallet to give a little more shading to the darker areas. Once that portion dried, I used 1 Hot Mama Creameez for the rest of her outfit the cute boots!

I used Shimmerz in Evergreen for the grass and the rain and puddles were Shimmerz Tickle Me Turquoise. I added a couple of rain drops so that it would be more realistic of Texas rainfall lol. Coffee Shimmerz was the perfect color for my little dog. To finish the card, I did a light wash with Steely Blue Inklings for the sky.

I hope you have a wonderful weekend and if its rainy, wear your cute boots!
