Happy Spring Day | 12x12 Mixed Media Layout using origami butterflies

Hello everyone!

Lorimar here, sharing this gorgeous, butterfly-filled 12x12 mixed media layout. I've used more or less the same color-scheme as that of the May Color Kitz. I played around with making some origami butterflies and also pulled out 4 different butterfly punches. Here's the process video: https://youtu.be/eMMF4TICjUI

Let's get started!
For my origami butterflies, I colored some leftover white cardstock with Paradise Punch, Mustard Seed, Bahama Mama, Limoncello, 1 Hot Mama, and Bumbly Bee; set it aside to dry. Be sure to let your cardtock/paper dry completely before folding it as it might tear easily if it's still damp.

Selected a sheet of Tutu Pink Bazzill cardstock and sprayed Snow Storm, Tuscan Sun, Cotton Candy, and Chick A Dee in a diagonal line from right to left. I did this to further give my layout some sense of movement. Set my base aside to dry and got to work on my butterflies.

I trimmed out (2) 2x2 inch, (2) 3x3 inch, (2) 3.5x3.5 inch squares to use for my butterflies. Here's the video I watched: Origami Butterflies. With the remainder of my leftover cardstock, I punched out a lot (and I do mean A LOT) of butterflies. My design for the arrangement of the butterflies was to emulate them fluttering off the page from right to left, so I began to place them all scattered around the page and pointing towards different places to try and convey movement.

The origami butterflies are very dimensional so they don't require craft foam; however, some of the other butterflies have to wings popped up on craft foam. To finish off my layout, I matted my picture with a layer of patterned paper, popped it up on some craft foam, added a few butterfly wood veneers, placed my title beneath my picture and wrote the date underneath it. For some extra sparkle, I scattered some Spiegelmom Scraps Sequins (Pink Promenade).

And that's it! I hope I've inspired you to get your stories documented, get your Shimmerz out and play! Thank you so much for looking and I'll see you back soon!

Have a great Shimmery day!

Born To Explore | Boy Layout using Run! Forest, Pumpkin, Bumbly Bee | With Process Video

Hello Shimmerz friends!

Hope you are doing well and bright! Sharing this gorgeously starry layout with you today using oranges, yellows and greens. Link to process video can be found at the end of the post:

Started out with a white piece of cardstock that I've trimmed down to 11.5 by 11.5 in order to fit a border behind it later. Played a bit with the placement of patterned paper and pictures before getting out my colors:

- Can't Elope - Inklingz
- Bumbly Bee - Shimmerz
- Olive U Truly - Inklingz
- Run! Forest - Shimmerz
- Pining For You - Creameez
- Pumpkin - Pumpkin
- Orange Sherbet - Shimmerz
- Marigold - Shimmerz

I added the mixed media by colors; I began with the oranges (Can't Elope, Pumkin, Orange Sherbet) and let them dry a bit. Then added in the yellows (Bumbly Bee, Marigold) and finally worked with the greens. Each color group was worked with the packaging technique and splatters.

Once all the colors were dry, I glued my patterned paper (Amy Tangerine | Slice of Life | Rainbow Hall) and placed my pictures on craft foam for dimension. Added two small clusters of embellishments near my pictures. Had some leftover stars from a cutfile I had previously used (Circle Of Stars by Virginia Walker | COAPA Cutfiles); sprayed some of them with Tuscan Sun (Spritz) and others with Goldie Lox (Shimmeringz) and formed a sort of star burst effect on the layout with them. Each white star was added in on craft foam; I was punched out a few vellum stars and glued them unto the cardstock. Finished off the layout by added some Nuvo Drops, placed my title, wrote my journaling and then mounted the white cardstock unto a patterned paper (Amy Tangerine | Hustle and Heart). Below are a few more close-ups.

I love how this layout turned out! It's so colorful and star-filled, perfect for documenting boy memories. Hope to have inspired you and I'll see you back soon! Link to process video: https://youtu.be/wWoPn2s1mb8

2 Cute | Boy-themed layout with process video

Hello everyone!

Started this new year by making a boy themed layout with lots of colors and layers. It's a pretty simple layout so let's get started! For further help, link to process video is posted at the end of this blogpost.

Started off my background with white cardstock covered in clear gesso and began spraying in colors with the following mists: Bed of Roses (Spritz), Lil' Yellow School Bus (Coloringz), Jeni B Blue (Vibez), In Deep (Coloringz), Princess (Vibez), Tuscan Sun (Spritz), Rollin' In The Hay (Vibez). I added these colors just by spraying them unto the background and rolling my paper towel roll over them. After doing this 3 times to ensure a bold colored background, I splattered black and white acrylic paint. Set it aside to dry.

While the background dried, I began to work on my paper layers. Used Shimelle's Field Trip collection patterned papers;began trimming them into various widths and lengths and finally distressed most of the edges. Once the background was dry, I layered all the pieces of patterned paper unto the background, adding an extra layer of paper with a teal polka-dot acetate sheet.

Added some stars (leftovers from 2 different cutfiles) which I previously colored with Hermit the Frog (Vibez), Lil' Yellow School Bus (Coloringz), Bed of Roses (Spritz), Hint of Mint (Spritz) and In Deep (Coloringz). Popped these up on craft foam and layered in some more ephemera and stickers from Field Trip. For more interest and color, I punched out some leaves and also layered them in. I added some vellum beneath the title thickers in order to make it pop even more.

Finished the layout off with splatters of Pixie Dust (Blingz) and some Nuvo Drops in dark green, and added my journaling beneath my title.

That's it! I hope I've inspired you to get creative with your Shimmerz colors and get your stories documented. Remember, you can get free paint in your next Shimmerz order by typing in my name in the comments section.

October Color Kitz Inspiration & Process Video | Amanda Baldwin

Hi Friends!

Amanda here, & welcome back for more shimmering inspiration!
It's the first of the month, and that means new Kitz! Yayyy!

Here's  what the Shimmerz Paints October Color Kitz looks like.....

So.much.gorgeousness!

This stunning kit contains the following:

1 x Spritz: Tuscan Sun 1 oz
1 x Vibez: Hot Fudge 1 oz
1 x Creameez: Jolly Green Giant
1 x Shimmerz: Pumpkin
PLUS
1 pkt of the Pumpkin Spice & Everything Nice Dotz

These are the perfect colors and embellishments for heading into Fall!
And speaking of Autumn, here's what I created with the October Color Kitz....

"Happy Moments"

Oh my!!! Isn't this just beauti-Fall?!
I just LOVE that  Shimmerz: Pumpkin color!
Soooooo super pretty & full of shimmery goodness!
And the funny part?
I dislike creating with orange. It's so not my color!
Give me all the blues & pinks, but never orange.
And this is exactly why I love the Color Kitz!
They encourage me to step away from my set 'favorites' & get me to try new colors that I wouldn't normally choose!
Since creating this layout, I'd have to say Shimmerz Pumpkin is going on my 'must-have' favorite Shimmerz colors list!
And it wasn't just the Shimmerz Pumpkin that won my heart....
I'm also smitten with the Creameez Jolly Green Giant!
That green is errrrything!
Absolutely divine!

But enough chatter, here's a closer look at my layout....

Such a fun & whimsical page! Happy moments, indeed!
I've combined our beautiful October Color Kitz with scrapbook supplies from Elle's Studio & sequins from our friends at SpiegelMom Scraps. They coordinate together perfectly!

I started my layout by painting all the inset pieces of the Fox cut file (courtesy of the Silhouette Design Store). I thought the fox would really showcase that fabulous Shimmerz Pumpkin, and the florals would be perfect for highlighting the Tuscan Sun & Jolly Green Giant colors. I also used Hot Fudge to paint the nose and eyes. Super cute!

Next, I painted up a few pieces of smooth white paper in Creameez Jolly Green Giant. I used these pretty green papers to die cut a selection of leaves & foliage, which I arranged around the inset shimmery fox.
I just love how effective this bright pop of green looks against the Pumpkin fox! Gor-jus!
I tucked my darling photo into the curve of the fox's tail, and embellished with the Thankful Dotz from the Pumpkin Spice & Everything Nice set. I also used the floral Dotz to adorn the flower crown on the fox....

So very beautiful!
& how good does the Hot Fudge look for the nose & eyes?!
So rich & warm! LOVE!

I embellished my layout with hearts, labels, phrase stickers & sentiments from Elle's Studio, then added a bunch of splatters with my new fave, Shimmerz Pumpkin!

For finishing touches, I sprinkled SpiegelMom Scraps Lovely Day and Into the Woods sequins throughout the page.
