Happy Days | June Color Kitz | Sarah Millerhouse

Hello! I am so excited to share another layout featuring the beautiful June Color Kitz! I absolutely adore the colors in this months collection! Scroll to the bottom for a link to the full process video!

I started by using a stencil on the background and combining that with texture paste to add the sun rays. Once dry, I sprayed the rays with the new Color Splash - Squeeze the Day (Not included in the Color Kitz). To the top right I added the Shimmerz - Pool Me Close with a paintbrush and some added water. Below that I added the Shimmerz - Iris My Case. I added a little water to the middle of these colors and moved my paper around to get them to blend a little. I also added a few splatters of Spritz - Pipe Cream to add some creamy splotches and a few splatters of Vibez - Rip Van Periwinkle to have some darker spots!

Once the mediums were dry, I added my photos to the center of the layout, backed with several layers of patterned paper from the Happy Days collection by Cocoa Vanilla Studio.

Around my photos, I added clusters of flowers from the same collection. I trimmed the white borders off of each flower and leaf before I added it to the layout.

At the bottom of the floral clusters, I tucked in a journaling circle. I also added in some fabric puffy hearts and enamel puffy hearts from the collection.

I finished off the layout by adding some crystals and half pearls to the flowers and around my clusters! I love the sparkle this adds. The colors in the June Color Kitz are so perfect for summery layouts, and I absolutely loved using them here!

Fun In The Sun | Mixed Media Layout

 Hello Shimmerz people!

Here's another mixed media layout!  This time, though, it's a summer-y layout, perfect for the upcoming summer. You can grab the items I used HERE and watch a process video HERE.

I began by adding clear gesso to the sheet of white textured cardstock. The gesso will allow the colors to blend together rather than seep into the paper. While it was drying, I began to prep my photos by trimming them down a bit and adding white cardstock as a mat beneath them. The smaller picture was also backed up with craft foam for dimension.

Get ready for the colorful part! I grabbed So Bluetiful, In Deep, Beach Glass, Love Ocean #9 and Sease The Day... and basically went crazy spraying and splattering them into the background. For extra colorful blending, I sprayed the colors and then lifted the cardstock up, tilting it. Set the base aside to dry and began to look for all the embellishments.

These embellishments are a mixture of the Sunkissed collections by Cocoa Vanilla Studios and Simple Stories. Once the base was dried, I assembled the layout as you can see in the photos and wrote in my journaling. I added a few splatters of Sweet heart to tie everything together and done!

That's it! Thank you so much for joining me today; I hope I've inspired you in some way to get your story documented. Be sure to use my name (LORIMAR) in the comments section of your next Shimmerz Order so you can receive a freebie!

Celebrate | Mixed Media Layout using the March Color Kitz

 Hello Shimmerz people!

It's my turn on the blog today sharing this mixed media overload layout (seriously, it has about 5 layers of mixed media). You can grab the Color Kitz HERE and watch the process video for it HERE.

Part One

Using a sheet of textured white cardstock as my base, I sprayed and splattered the Sweet Heart Vibez. After waiting a bit for it to dry, I splattered 1 Hot Mama on as well. While waiting for some more drying time to pass, I started working on making a colorful frame for my photo. I acchieved this by using a scrap piece of white cardstock and painted a rectangle of The Perfect Pear unto it.

Part Two

While the frame and base were drying, I collected most of the embellishments that I would be using; they are a mixture from Cocoa Vanilla Studios and Pebbles. Once my items were dried, I used the stencil that comes with the kits and light and fluffy modeling paste for some even more mixed media goodness! I added in my photo, washi tape, cutfile and embelllishments as you see in the pictures; finalized it by adding in the Dotz that come in the kit and painted on some more pink with First Blush and Pink A Boo.

Part Three

After writing in my journaling, I decided to create a border of The Perfect Pear around my layout for the extra pop of green.

That's it! Thank you so much for joining me today; I hope I've inspired you in some way to get your story documented. Be sure to use my name (LORIMAR) in the comments section of your next Shimmerz Order so you can receive a freebie!

Be Merry | December Color Kitz | Merry & Bright Cocoa Vanilla Studios

Hello Shimmerz Family!

The holidays are upon us, and I'm so thankful for the great time we will have with our families. Today's layout features the amazing December Color Kitz paired with the Merry & Bright collection by Cocoa Vanilla Studios. You can purchase the Color Kitz here, and watch a process video of it on my channel.

Let's dive in!
I usually go for a white or light background, but since my pictures were on the darker side, I decided to use the wood grain patterned paper from the Merry & Bright Collection as my base. To this I sprayed Wild Spruce Chase and splattered Amaze-Mint, and set it aside to dry. I then began to work on the cutfile (included in the Color Kitz); I colored one piece with Black Cherry and the other with Blue Spruce. My idea was to layer these cutfiles off-set on top of each other. While these dried, I matted my photos on white cardstocked and added craft foam underneath them.
Once all my elements were dry, I started to stick everything down. I placed the cutfile right in the center of the base, layered my photos on top of it, and added in some embellishments from the Merry & Bright Cocoa Vanilla Studios collection. To finish off the layout, I added in some star wood veneers and Dotz, followed by splatters of I'm Not Limon and Amaze-Mint. Journaling was added in with gold ink.

That's it! Simple yet gorgeous, right?

Falling for These Moments | November Color Kitz | These Days Cocoa Vanilla Studios Collection

Hello Shimmerz Family!

As the days continue to cool down (at least on my side of the world) and we are gearing up for the upcoming family festivities, it is always great to take some time to enjoy the extraordinary ordinary moments with our loved ones. Today's layout features all the components of the superbly gorgeous November Color Kitz which you can purchase here; I also have a process video on my channel.

It was fairly simple and quick layout to make, so let's get started!
I began with a sheet of textured, white cardstock which I had prepped beforehand with clear gesso (white gesso will work just as well here, too!). Once the gesso was dry, I sprayed Rock-A-Fella Blue unto the background, followed by splatters of Tarnished Treasure and Greener Pastures. While my base was drying, I began to work with the leaves (cutfile included in the Colorz Kitz) which I colored with Egg Noggin', Tarnished Treasure, and Golden Wheat. After they were dry, I backed with a wood patterned paper from the Cocoa Vanilla Studios These Days Collection.

Once all my elements were dried, it was all downhill from here and very easy to assemble. I first stuck down the text cutfile in the center of the base and added a photo on either side (each photo was matted on patterned paper and popped up on craft foam). Then I arranged two leaves and some embellishments around the photos. Added in the Dotz and splattered some extra Rock-A-Fella Blue and Golden Wheat to finish things off. Journaling was added beneath the title of the cutfile using gold ink.

That's it! Before I forget, be sure to include my name in the comments section of your next Shimmerz order to get a freebie.
Thank you so much everyone for joining me today!
Have a Shimmery day!

Thankful for Every Little Moment | November Color Kitz | Cocoa Vanilla Studios Daydream

 Hello everyone!

We are just a week shy of Thanksgiving, and although the year has been on the crazy side, I'm sure there are still moments that are worth being thankful for.

Today's layout features all the goodness found in the November Color Kitz, and I've added in an extra challenge: make my own embellishments. Apart from the Color Kitz, I used mainly items from Cocoa Vanilla Studios Daydream collection. If you are interested in watching the process video, click here!

Let's begin! I selected a minty-green cardstock as my base and cut out the cutfile on beige cardstock. I went for muted and delicate colors as opposed to bold colors this time around to make my photo pop. After adding clear gesso to the base and letting it dry, I began adding my colors; I sprayed Don't Rain on My Parade lightly first and then began adding each of the other colors (from the Color Kitz) by splattering them unto the base. In my mind, I was going for a sort speckled egg look for my base.

While my base dried, I went to town fussy-cutting out florals and butterflies from a Cocoa Vanilla Studios patterned paper. I also punched out some leaflets which were colored with Don't Rain on My Parade in order to add a pop of that gorgeous dark blue. As soon as my base was dried, I stamped some flowers around where I'd be adding the rest of my florals in order to make it look fuller. I then glued the cutfile at the top of the layout right unto the base and added in my photo (a true 4x6) on craft foam right below it. Afterwards, I took my time fiddling with the placement of the fussy-cut florals and butterflies; the butterflies' wings were popped up on craft foam, as were some of the florals in order to add dimension. Popped the Dotz near my photo and, finally, I sprinkled some of the stickable pearls from the Color Kitz to add a pop of delicateness to the layout, and that's it!

The layout took awhile to assemble from start to finish, but I love the result! Remember to use my name (LORIMAR) in your next Shimmerz order so you can receive a freebie. Thank you so much for sticking around this far.

Stay safe and be grateful,
Lorimar

1 teaspoon package of Country Buttonz
1 set of "Happy Day" Dotz

Wow! That's one super impressive kit!
The creative possibilities with this Color Kit are endless, but I wanted to create a page that featured all.the.things!!! Here's what I created,

"Explorer"

Whoa! How awesome is this?!
The January edition Color Kitz was perfect for documenting my lil explorer!
Think great outdoors, adventuring and lake life! So cool!
You'll spy that I even added one extra color to the mix - Ultra Marine Shimmerz! This stunning hue of deep blue coordinated beautifully with the greens and grays of the January Kit! Love it!
Here's a closer look at my layout......

Yep, this is one super cool page for my little guy!
As soon as I saw the Forest cut file created by Paige Taylor Evans, I knew I would create a masculine layout! If you look closely at my darling boy's photo, you'll notice that his top has a very similar design on it! Awesome!

To create this layout, I began by filling sheets of paper with all the kit colors. While they were drying, I prepared the cut file. I cut it in plain white cardstock, and removed some of the cut pieces, while keeping others intact. The mix of inset and paper backed sections really added interest to the cut file.
The inset sun rays are left untouched, but I used the neutral For Shore Creameez to paint the mountain peaks and clouds....

Simple, but so effective!
The remaining sections of the sun are backed with the paper which I painted with Sheer Bliss Inklingz, and the mountains are backed with the new Silver Fox Shimmerz. SO good! La la love this new Shimmerz!

The trees are mostly backed with varying depths (paint coats) of Into The Woods Vibez, except for one which I backed with Sage Advice Shimmerz for a point of difference and interest. Here's a closer look at them....

Trees 1,2 & 4 are Into The Woods Vibez and tree 3 is Sage Advice Shimmerz. Such gorgeous colors!
I added in the Ultra Marine Shimmerz for the water element of the cut file, and I'm so glad I did! This bright pop of color adds just enough playfulness to the design without distracting from the beautiful January Color Kitz colors.
Before I adhered the Forest cut file to the Cocoa Vanilla Studio: Boys Rule pattern paper, I added lots of inky droplets, splatter and brush strokes to the pattern paper with the Before Dawn Vibez. Once dry, I foam mounted the cut file, and glued it to the inky base.

I have used the Cocoa Vanilla Studio: Boys Rule collection to embellish my page too, but it's those Happy Day Dotz that won me over! Aren't they fabulous?! I couldn't help myself, & used all of them to adorn my photo with! Yes, that good!
You'll also spy that I layered my photo cluster onto one of the journaling tags, and sprinkled a few of the teeny tiny buttons around the page. Told you I used all.the.things!

Such a cool kid page!
You can see how it all came together in my process video HERE.

Thanks so much for watching!

Life is Good | Jen McMurtrey

Hey Shimmerz friends!

It's Jen today with a layout using beautiful Shimmerz Coloringz in hues that are sure to brighten your day. With all of the holiday projects I've been making lately, I thought it would be nice to take a break and create something with a spring-like color palette.

For this project I used the following Shimmerz Coloringz.

Here is a look at the layout.

To create the background, I sprayed the Coloringz onto white cardstock and blotted the excess with a paper towel. I love the gradient look of the colors - they are so vivid against the white.

Next, I used another piece of white cardstock with a cut file from Whimsey Fox Crafts and placed it on top of the painted background

Along with the beautiful Shimmerz Coloringz, I pulled patterned papers, die cuts, and stickers from my Cocoa Vanilla Studio Stash to match the background.

The title was also sprayed with the Coloringz to mimic the background gradient colors.

The colors all go so well together and I used a black and white photo, which really pops against the bright hues. To finish, I added white enamel dots for a bit more texture.

Be sure to visit the Shimmerz Shop to pick up these amazing Shimmerz Coloringz. Remember to type JENNIFER in the comments at checkout to receive a freebie with your order.

I hope you have a blessed holiday and new year!

Remember This | Jen McMurtrey

Hello Shimmerz friends!

Back to school is one of my favorite times of the year - everything is fresh and new and anything seems possible. Like many people, especially memory keepers, we take pictures on the first day of school every year. Since I am a teacher, it only makes sense for my picture to be taken as well, and that is the focus of today's project.

When pairing Shimmerz products with my picture, I focused on the color of my pants. Using Red Necking Creameez, Great Fruit Creameez, and Christmas Cheer Shimmerz, I smooshed each color onto a piece of white mixed media paper as well as added splatters. I began with Red Necking on the top half of the page and then added the Christmas Cheer on the bottom. After it had all dried, I added Great Fruit in the middle of the page to create a sort of gradient background.

Another staple on most projects is a digital cut file. Here I used the Floral Ampersand file by Paige Evans that is included with the September Missy Whidden Color Kitz. I used white cardstock and layered it on top of my painted background.

Embellishing the layout was next and I used Cocoa Vanilla Studio products for this. I love the chipboard title that I painted to match the background. It is the perfect touch.

Flower die cuts and sentiment stickers were added for an extra boost of color along with enamel dots that match each of the Shimmerz colors. Last, I added a dated stamp along the top of the photo.

Here's one last look at the finished layout.

Remember to stop by the Shimmerz store to pick up the beautiful colors used on this project along with any other that catch your eye. When you type JENNIFER in the comments at checkout, you'll receive a freebie with your order.

Thanks for stopping by today and I hope you've been inspired to create!

August Color Kitz Inspiration & Process Video | Amanda Baldwin

Hi Shimmerz Friends & Fans!

Amanda here, & today I am sharing a lil inspiration
(complete with process video)
with our gorgeous August Color Kitz!

This month's Color Kitz is absolutely stunning!
Such pretty colors! &  just check out that exclusive ice cream cut file!!!
Colorz featured are:

 Vibez Hermit the Frog
Coloringz Heidi Ho Blue
Inklingz Sunkissed
Shimmerz Pink

Plus Sprinkle Time! sequins from our friends at SpiegelMomScraps.

If you're super quick, you *might* be able to snare one still before they completely sell out!

I couldn't wait to get creating with this beautiful kit!
Here's what I came up with.....

"Bloom & Grow"

Oh my heart! Isn't this so pretty!
And before you ask about the ice cream cut file, let me tell you that my moody cutting machine ate every single one of those ice cream cones! I know, right?! So frustrating!
On the upside, digital files keep forever, & I'll try cutting it again after I've updated my software, lol!
I've also opted for a 'clean look' mixed media page - lots of controlled painting for this sweet page!
Here's a closer look at my layout....

Whoa! So.much.pretty!!!
Turns out you don't have to use the cut file to maximize the awesomeness of this kit!

I began my layout by painting a bunch of blooms and leaves from the Cocoa Vanilla Studio "Sophisticated" pattern paper (Midnight collection) using ALL the colors!
Where's the Heidi Ho Blue, I hear you ask?
Well, to create those darker green leaves I mixed Coloringz Heidi Ho Blue with Vibez Hermit the Frog - so you kinda get a bonus 'extra' color in your kit ;)
Once dry, I fussy cut all the florals and arranged onto the 12 x 12 white cardstock base.

Next, I sprayed some scrap paper with pure Coloringz Heidi Ho Blue.
With this newly created blue paper, I punched a few butterflies, and even backed it to my photograph for added interest.
In keeping with the butterfly adornments, I just couldn't resist using the beautiful

Aren't they the perfect embellishment?!
You can shop them HERE

Here's a closer look at them on my layout....

Beauties, indeed!
The pretty yellow & lime butterfly coordinates perfectly with the Vibez Hermit the Frog painted leaves. Love it!

For finishing touches, I add my title Bloom & Grow also from the Cocoa Vanilla Studio Midnight collection, & end with scattering lots of Spinkle Time! sequins onto my page....

So many lovelies to look at!

Absolutely gorgeous!!!
And such a 'clean' approach to using paints on your projects!
Wanna see how it all came together?

Please watch my process video HERE

I hope you enjoyed watching my process video
& feel inspired to get creating with your August Color Kitz!

Thanks so  much for visiting!
