That's My Boy | Color-melting with Shimmerz Paints | Echo Park Paper | Lorimar Ortega

Hello everyone!

It's Lorimar, sharing this lovely "color-melting" layout with you today. I used a patterned paper from Echo Park's That's My Boy collection as an inspiration for layout as I wanted to make a colorful layout without going down rainbow road (LOL). I'll list all the colors I used in here (so it's easier to walk you through it): Oakie Dokie, Butter Cream, Bamboo Leaf, Keep Palm, Mustard Seed, Pumpkin, Anchors Away, Peacock's Plume, Ultra Marine, Gold Glimmer, and Pool Me Closer.

Here's what I did: as I rummaged through my stash, I found a patterned paper from Echo Park that featured a lot of color and patterns. It's actually the "cover page" from the collection; they are typically printed on shiny glossy paper, but this one was actually the A Side to the 3x4 Journaling cards. I fussy-cut around the hexagons and left the logo in to serve as my title. My idea was to use the colors from the paper and create a layout that looked like the color had melted down; and that's exactly what I did!

Using a Vicki Boutin foundations paper, I added water to the bottom of the paper (so my colors to blend and spread better) and began adding in each of the colors. I specifically used Butter Cream in between the bolder colors so the blending came out more fluid. Towards the bottoms of each of the color strips, I splashed a bit of each of the colors.

Once it was dried, it was all a matter of adding in my pictures (matted on red metallic cardstock, popped up on craft foam and placed on either side of the title) and sprinkle in a few embellishments (so as not to cover up to much of the mixed media.

And that's it! Thank you so much for joining me today, and I hope I've inspired you to make a colorful layout such as this. Remember, if you type my name, LORIMAR, in the comments sections of your next Shimmerz order, you'll be able to receive some free paint!

Take care and stay safe,

- Lorimar

Baby it's Cold Outside | Niki Rowland

Hi Shimmerz Fans! Niki here today and I have a cold, wintery, icy layout to share today. I almost always put a border around the edge of my layouts but for this one I decided to stick to mostly white so I have a super white background to do justice to the snowy photo.

I started off by making a water color effect background. I did this by using the packaging technique. I applied light shades of blue, pink and yellow. The colours I've used are:

Once I had applied the paint to the background, I added splatters of the same colours to make my background a bit bigger and also to get some small dots of intense colour.

I then used a snowflake stencil and added white snowflakes using the very gorgeous Spun Sugar Dazzlerz.

I also mixed the same colours I used to create my water colour effect background, with Spun Sugar Dazzlerz, so that I had a texture paste in each of the same colours. I then pushed all the colours through a dotted stencil onto a separate piece of white card. I overlapped the colours in some places so that I got a two tone effect. Once dry I cut this into strips and used it as part of my photo cluster.

I built my photo cluster onto my mixed media background. I added tangles of silver thread and I used cute ice skates and mittens Perspextives by Bramble Fox. I also added a title 'Baby it's cold outside' Perspextive underneath my photo cluster.

Here's another look at the completed layout. I finished off with a few small embellishments  (oh and that massive blue arrow I've had for years!) and fussy cut some snowflakes from patterned papers. I added another small title using alphabet stickers and handwrote my journaling above it.

Thank you so much for joining me today. I hope you've enjoyed my cold wintery layout...let's hope there is some warmer weather coming soon!

Happy scrapping and don't forget to enter my name in the comments of your next order and you will get a freebie! xxx

Forward Together | Niki Rowland

Hey there! It's Niki here today and I have a school layout to share today. I know school photos and layouts are usually more common in September, but we have our school photos taken in November and I didn't receive them until January! I don't always like school photos, mainly because I don't like school uniform all that much, so my policy is that they have to be scrapped immediately, otherwise they never get done.

So I started off by working out approximately where the photos were going to go. I then created a water colour effect background using the packaging technique. I used three colours:

To apply the paint to put a small amount onto a piece of packaging. I then add water if necessary. I tend to find that the Shimmerz Paints need a bit of water added to make them more fluid. The Vibez sprays don't usually need any water added. I apply one colour at a time and if time is on my side, I let each colour dry before applying the next colour.

After adding the large areas of paint, I then added lots of splatters. Once dry I then added my photo and embellishments. I really love the lime green colour in this layout with the birght yellow, it gives a slightly alternative take on the usual primary colours!

I added paper strips at the top and the bottom of the layout. I got my photo and embellishments all stuck in place, and then realised I have covered up most of the background! This seems to happen to me quite a lot. So I added in lots of extra splatters around the edges of my photo and embellishments. I love the way the splatters dry...you can really see the beautiful shimmer in these paints.

Thanks so much for joining me today, I hope you have enjoyed this school layout and don't forget that if you place an order via the Shimmerz website, enter my name in the comments for a freebie.
Happy scrapping xx

Floral Grace Card | Julee Tilman

Hi Shimmerz friends! Today I'm sharing a fun all occasion card. As soon as I saw the Floral Grace Stampz set, I immediately fell in love with this gorgeous flower! It's so graceful and versatile. I can see it in autumn colors for a fall flower, in reds and pinks for a holiday poinsettia, or any color of your choosing for an everyday card. And it's such a perfect size to really make a statement on a card. You really must take one home, if you haven't already! 😉

I started by stamping the flower and a few of the leaves on watercolor paper with Hero Arts Intense Black ink. This ink doesn't react with water, so it's the perfect ink for wet mediums. Next I sprayed some Scarlett's Fever and Pretty in Pink Coloringz on my palette and watercoloring the flower. Since Coloringz are flat sprays, I added a little Angel Wings Shimmerz for the perfect amount of shine. I love how soft and shimmery it looks when it catches the light. Beautiful, vibrant colors, with just the right amount of sparkle!

To finish the flower, I went in with a white gel pen and a black permanent pen for detailing and to add in some of that white space I always seem to forget because I get so excited about the beautiful color! I did a little bit better at the white space on the my leaves, colored with Bamboo Leaf Spritz and Palm Reader Vibez. Then I let my fingers do the fussy cutting and layered the pieces together.

I really loved the flowers make any day special sentiment from the set, and thought it would be fun to create a rainy day background to make the colors in the flower pop. I smooshed on some Deep Blue Sea and Don't Rain on My Parade Vibez  and dropped some water on it. Next I added a bit of Tidy Widy Texturez with a stencil for the effect of rain, then finished off with a splattering of Pool Me Close Shimmerz.  The sentiment is embossed in white on black cardstock, something that always seems to make a sentiment shine. Three little red rhinestones are the only other accent.

Thanks so much for stopping by today! There are so many fabulous ways to make your projects shine in the Shimmerz store! Hop over there and make your crafty dreams sparkle. And remember to put my name, Julee Tilman, in the comments when you place your order for a FREE mini surprise product!
