Love | Jen McMurtrey

Hello Shimmerz friends!

It's Jen today with a quick project featuring a few of my favorite Shimmerz Paints.

Here's a look at the finished project.

To begin this project, I used a Paige Evans cut file with white cardstock. Once it was cut, I used each of the three Shimmerz colors to spray the cardstock as well as splatter the background paper (Crate Paper's Magical Forest).

After the paint had dried, I backed my photo with patterned paper and adhered it with foam squares.

I love this sweet photo of my son and his girlfriend that they took while on a camping trip to
Mt. Rainer.

This project came together in under an hour, which is a miracle for me. LOL!

Thank you so much for stopping by today! Remember when shopping the Shimmerz store to type JENNIFER in the comments at checkout to receive a freebie with your order.

Have a great day!

Be Brave, - an art panel with Astrid

Hello lovely Shimmerz friends. Today I have a little art panel to share with you.
These are the Shimmerz products I used this time:
Spritz - Truffle
Vibez - Before Dawn, Plum Tuckered Out
Dazzlerz: Foiled Again.

All available from the Store of course.
Here's a quick how to: Start by taking a little art panel and putting down some different textures, then cover everything with gesso.
I used lace, chipboard, cheese cloth, art stones, corrugated card etc.
Here's a closer look at the textures, brought out by the layer of thick  gesso:
Next I took a chipboard butterfly, covered it with gesso, then the Foiled Again Dazzlerz which gave it the most amazing shimmer and finally used two of my sprays, Plum Tuckered Out and Before Dawn applied with a brush to the centre of the butterfly:
I added some gold foiling to part of the wings too, just using a glue stick and some Ranger gold foil.#
Next I went to work with my sprays on the background and also added some background stamping and a sentiment:
I added the butterfly to the centre and that was it.

Well, that's it for today, quick, easy and fun to do, - hope you like it........

And like usual, just a little reminder, - if you want some free paint:
Thanks for your visit today and to my American friends, Happy 4th of July tomorrow!

Sepia Christmas Card with Astrid

Hello Shimmerz visitors, lovely to have you visiting today.
I think like many of us, I am in full Christmas card making mode, - this time I have one in sepia tones to share with you.
I used three Shimmerz products only for this project:
I took some 5 x 7 smooth card and ran it through a Snowflake embossing folder.. I sprayed the whole card liberally with Truffle Spritz, added some water and dried it with my heat gun. I then very carefully highlighted the raised bits by dry brushing with some gesso for a wintry effect.
Next I diecut and embossed a large snowflake using the Tim Holtz Layered Snowflake die and matching embossing folder and used the same method to colour it, but darkening it in places with the Tarnished Treasure Inlinkz paint.
I just love the effect of the dry brushed gesso over the wonderful shimmering paints and sprays.
After adhering the large snowflake to the centre of my card it was time to embellish.
I coloured some white ribbon with the Truffle Spritz and threaded it through some lace as shown above.
Next I made a messy bow using the same ribbon, but I had crinkled it while still wet with the spray.

I adhered it to the side of my threaded piece of ribbon and added a little punched out snowflake to the centre.
I coloured a little wooden sentiment with the Tarnished Treasure paint, it only needed one coat, the Inklingz have so much pigment that it coloured the wood just perfectly, giving it just the right amount of silvery tarnished sparkle.
Lastly I darkened the background around the large snowflake with the Before Dawn spray, using a paint brush, - this to help it pop a bit more against the quite busy background. I adhered the card to a precut folded bit of card and that was it.

Well, I hope you like my shabby card and that you are having fun with your own Christmas and seasonal crafting. Don't forget, you can order Shimmerz products directly from the Shimmerz Paints Store. If you do,  mention my name (Astrid Maclean) in the «Instruction to Merchant/seller» part of your order form (just below your name and address). After clicking «add», you'll get a FREE product in the color of your choice. And for people from outside the US, Shimmerz do a really good deal on postage!

A Quick & Easy Canvas!

Hi all! I'm so excited to share with you today a small canvas design I made using goodies from the September Flying Unicorn kits and some of my favorite Shimmerz Paints Products. There were so many beautiful metal embellishments in this kit I wanted to use them on a mixed media style canvas.  Most of what is on this canvas is from the September kits from Flying Unicorn (I think the only thing from my stash is a couple of adhesive gems and a couple small Dusty Attic chipboard pieces and some Shimmerz Paintz (although some of the Shimmerz products are in the kit)....I will list them below).  As always, I find it easier to show than to tell, so here is a little video tutorial I made up for this piece,...enjoy!

As I said, most of the products I used on this canvas are from the Flying Unicorn kits, but here are the Shimmerz Products used on this canvas....

~ Sunset Strip Vibez
~ Before the Dawn Vibez
~Truffle Spritz
~ Jeni B Bleu Vibez (in Kit)
~ Apple Cider Blingz
~ Artechoked Texturez (in Kit)
~ Golden Wheat Shimmerz

NOTE:  If you would like to order the Shimmerz products used on this canvas you can order them directly from the Shimmerz online STORE.  And remember if you would like to get a FREE/Bonus Shimmerz product be sure to mention my name "Gabrielle' in the 'INSTRUCTIONS TO MERCHANT' part at the end of your order and Stacey will send you a bonus Shimmerz product in the color of your choice :)

Here are a few of close ups of the canvas that you can view at your leasure....

I just love that metal branch!

Hope you enjoyed my project! This one came together quick and easy!  I've got another really fun canvas/and video tutorial coming up in a few days (11th) done with more goodies from this kit and lots of lovely Shimmerz products!  Hope you'll be able to come by and check it out!  Thanks so much for stopping by today!

Building Contrast

Earlier this month, The Color Room offered a palette with some interesting colors (#75). These colors were so strikingly different from one another and I thought I would really challenge myself to create a bold layout, using a dark, dark, background created with Shimmerz paints, and then highlighting all the elements with other Shimmerz hues.

The background was a pale colored corrugated cardboard prior, but after adding lots of Vibez in Before Dawn, Hot Fudge, and Pearlz in Toadlee, it was this deep, delicious color.

I then used Blingz in Under the Sea to highlight lots of the cracks within the cardboard, and do my dripping around the cluster, creating a beautiful contrast to the dark brown background. To add a bit more visual interest, I dipped the cap to my Under the Sea Blingz, into its paint, and stamped onto the background for fun. :)
