You Rock | Niki Rowland

Hey guys! Niki here with a fun new layout to share with you today.
One of my new favourite techniques is to apply mixed media to a cut file. Of course all the beautiful colours by Shimmerz are perfect for this!

I cut the large background star from a piece of heavyweight white card. I use Marshmallow by Bazzill. It's smooth and I've heard that it is already primed for applying mixed media but I can't find anything from the manufacturer about this. But regardless, it is heavyweight and takes mixed media really well so to me, it is perfect!

The star is a cut file by Just Nick. It is lots of squares and rectangles that together form a large star. Once cut, I left the cut file on the cutting mat. I then applyed my mixed media. I've used all Shimmerz products of course, and they are:

These are all Shimmerz original paints. I love that they are already mixed and ready to paint with, it makes mixed media very easy!

I had already decided what papers I was going to use so I matched the Shimmerz paints to the colours in the collection. I then applied the paints by using the packaging technique. I put a small amount of paint on a piece of packaging, then add a little bit of water. Then I press the packaging onto my paper, in this case onto the cut file that was still stuck to the cutting mat.  I then use my fingers to spread the colour around if needed. The effect is a gorgeous water colour effect and I love how the colours all blend together so beautifully.

Once my cut file was dry, I carefully peeled the surround off the mat and used it as a template over a piece of white card. I then peeled each piece of the star off the mat and stuck it through the template. I raised each piece up on foam pads for dimension...this took a while!

I then proceeded to cover up most of my beautiful star, as is often the way with mixed media layouts! However I'm delighted with the result of this and it's a great way to document the school successes of my little boy.

Thank you so much for joining me today, I hope you enjoyed this layout and will give this technique a try. Happy scrapping xxx

Forward Together | Niki Rowland

Hey there! It's Niki here today and I have a school layout to share today. I know school photos and layouts are usually more common in September, but we have our school photos taken in November and I didn't receive them until January! I don't always like school photos, mainly because I don't like school uniform all that much, so my policy is that they have to be scrapped immediately, otherwise they never get done.

So I started off by working out approximately where the photos were going to go. I then created a water colour effect background using the packaging technique. I used three colours:

To apply the paint to put a small amount onto a piece of packaging. I then add water if necessary. I tend to find that the Shimmerz Paints need a bit of water added to make them more fluid. The Vibez sprays don't usually need any water added. I apply one colour at a time and if time is on my side, I let each colour dry before applying the next colour.

After adding the large areas of paint, I then added lots of splatters. Once dry I then added my photo and embellishments. I really love the lime green colour in this layout with the birght yellow, it gives a slightly alternative take on the usual primary colours!

I added paper strips at the top and the bottom of the layout. I got my photo and embellishments all stuck in place, and then realised I have covered up most of the background! This seems to happen to me quite a lot. So I added in lots of extra splatters around the edges of my photo and embellishments. I love the way the splatters dry...you can really see the beautiful shimmer in these paints.

Thanks so much for joining me today, I hope you have enjoyed this school layout and don't forget that if you place an order via the Shimmerz website, enter my name in the comments for a freebie.
Happy scrapping xx

Spring flowers | Anna Komenda

Hello everyone. It's Anna here with new art journal page. I can't wait for the sprint to come and color this grey world around me. I hate winter and it's always hard for me to stay cheerful during long winter evenings. I am trying to stay positive by making a lot of rainbow projects including my latest art journal page. I was inspired by the flowers I was and I wanted to try making them in my journal.

I started this spread with mists applied with brush like watercolor.

After sketching few flowers I applied white acrylic paint first. Then I mixed leftover mists with some more white paint and I received new, fun acrylics

Between each layer I used my heat gun to dry the page. It prevented flowers from smudging. I finished flowers using colorful Shimmerz paints.

As always I recorded a video for you, so you can follow my process.

Don't forget to mention my name "Anna" while placing an order in Shimmerz Shop. You will get free mini product. How cool is that?

Here is the list of Shimmerz products I used in my project:
Spritz - Chick-a-dee

Thank you for stopping by and see you next month with some more mixed media fun.

Gypsy Soul

Did you hear that gypsy Shimmerz Siren call out to you?
Yep, that was me, Joyce.
I’m going to show you how to apply some gypsy/bohemian style
to your art today using Shimmerz Paints.

I have been enchanted by Gypsy genre and bohemian art styles lately,
so I thought I’d take those  feelings and put them on paper.
I adored the movement in the girls dance!
And, I thought I could create such movement with some art products.

  • Applications of stencil and Shimmerz Texturez Tidy Widy were applied over various areas on the 9 x 12 watercolor paper.
  • Then a heat gun was applied over the textured product and allowed to rise, bubble and burst which rendered a lacy look.
  • On top of the stenciled work, drops of Shimmerz Paint colors were applied, and I quickly added drops of water over the paint colored drops.  After this application, I allowed the color to dry completely before apply several other colors using the same technique.
  • Once all the colors of paint dried thoroughly, I applied a white art pen over the raised stencil work to make it look like a lacy appearance.

And what’s a gypsy girl without her baubles and chains?
  • Some Inglingz Brass Knuckles was applied over the chipboard chains and then some white art pen markings were added to each bead in the chain.
  • I gently swiped some Shimmerz Celery over the chain.
  • Some gesso and Shimmerz Key Lime were lightly applied over the metal flower charms.

 Shimmerz Products:
Spritz – Chance of Rain, 4 Leaf Clover, Plum Pudding
Vibez – Plum Tuckered Out, Blushing Bride
Shimmerz – Celery, Berry-licious, Orchid-stra, Key lime
Inkglingz- Brass Knuckles
Texturez – Tidy Widy

Listen for my Irish Shimmerz Siren call to bring you back on March 15th,

Spring Canvas with Yuko

Hello!  Yuko  here!

I made the canvas of the springlike hue
using a photograph of the strawberry hunting this time!

【TIME】
。I used the green and pink in the fact that the spring and strawberries.

I attached clear dew drop and button a lot in the background and showed a three-dimensional impression.

I like that I bury a mesh sheet in a canvas.
It is easy to use it in the slight one which I do not insist on too much to accentuate.

I attached glass beads and stickles so that a feeling was given shiningly in spring.

clear layout by Yuko

Hello!friends!
I made the layout using a transparent material.
The theme of the summer sea, sandy beach.

This picture doesn't show that it's clear, does it?

Feeling of the transparency was made importantly so that a clear board might be utilized.

This is a layout that is a double because I wanted to that little has changed.

A clear board is being supported with a shell.

The starfish was colored with shimmerz + dry glitter

Creating a Serene Beach Canvas with Gabrielle

Hi all! It's been crazy with the weather here in Canada! Just when I think the summer weather is finally here, we get another cold spell!  But I'm not letting that stop me from having some warm summery fun making up a beach style canvas!  I recently renovated my laundry room and now am at the decorating stage.  The colors I chose were in the soft aquas (kind of beachy/Cape Cod look). So I wanted to create some art work for my walls.  So I gathered together some of my favorite Shimmerz paints products and got to playing!

Shimmerz Paints Products used in this video:
~ Taupe of the World Spritz
~ Don't Be Suede Coloringz
~ Glorious Day Vibez
~Jeni B Bleu Vibez
~ Oh Say Can U Sea Coloringz
~ Lime Shimmerz
~ Olive Green Shimmerz
~ Golden Wheat Shimmerz

As always I created a video tutorial so that you can watch step by step how I created this canvas.  So grab yourself an iced tea, sit back, relax and enjoy! xo

I hope you enjoyed watching this project come together.  Here are some of the close-ups that you can view at your leisure (the video doesn't give you a long time to look :) ....

I made some of the embellishments with some Martha Stewart air dry clay (starfish, barnacles).

All the chipboard accents are from Dusty Attic Designs.  I love the effect the Shimmerz paints give the crooked fence design, the little bits of mica in the paint helps add that aged texture to the chipboard.

I also added some glass seed beads to the canvas for added texture.

I was really happy with the way the Taupe of the World Spritz looked on my chipboard anchor, I think it gives it a nice iron look!

Thanks so much for stopping by the Shimmerz blog today.  I hope I've inspired you to get playing with your Shimmerz products!  NOTE: If you'd like a FREE/Bonus Shimmerz product with your next order, be sure to mention my name 'Gabrielle' in the 'Instructions to Merchant/Seller' part of your order, to get bonus Shimmerz product in the color of your choice!
