Mixed Media masculine layout with Sandi Clarkson

Hello, scrappy friends!

Sandi  here with you today sharing my first Shimmerz Paint project for 2019!
Here's hoping for a creative year for all of you!!!

My first step after selecting my papers was to coat them with clear gesso and then added Paste-Eez Salt of the Earth texture paste pushed through a stencil.

After that dried, I added my distressed photo layers along with the photo of my grandson. Before moving on, I did some random stamping.

After choosing some chipboard embellishments from Creative Embellishments, I prepared them in a couple of different ways.

This Twig frame with fall leaves was sprayed with my Shimmerz Coloringz Chocolate Brownie.

After that dried, I sprayed the frame and leaves with my Shimmerz Vibez Hot Fudge which gave them a warm glow!

Before adding my florals and other embellishments, I enhanced my focal area by painting on Coloringz Well Blue Me Down with a small brush.

As I worked, I keep some water nearby so that I could dilute and let the color run as desired.

The chipboard title piece is from Creative Embellishments Adventure Word Set.

I decided to alter it a bit differently and chose my Inklingz Penny 4 Your Thoughts which turned out great! It gave it a nice, copper-y look.

In the background, you can see the Paste-Eez Salt of the Earth which was pushed through a stencil.

Here I tried to capture a better view of those copper tones of the Inklingz Penny 4 Your Thoughts.

The leaves were treated with a smattering of Blingz Gold Glimmer along the vein lines.

Finally, I added my florals and bling. Then splattered with gesso as well as Coloringz Night Moves which is black and the primary project color Coloringz Well Blue Me Down.

Thanks so much for coming by today!
Be sure to mention my name if you do a little retail shopping at Shimmerz for a little free paint.

October Color Challenge with Sandi Clarkson

Hello, Shimmerz Paints fans!
Sandi Clarkson here with you today sharing my take on the October Color Challenge here at Shimmerz.

I chose to focus on Miner Miner 49er Inklings which is a luscious shade of gold.
In order to really focus on its beauty, I chose to paint a wide swath of it vertically on a greeting card.
Now it served as a great background to do almost anything. I chose to go with leaves and carry out a Fall theme.

Here's another view to give you a better idea how all the colors really shimmer but especially the Miner Miner 49er Inklings. It also really shows the shimmer on the chipboard quote "autumn" which is altered with Penny 4 Your Thoughts Inklingz.

I'm so proud of these gorgeous leaves which are from Creative Embellishments. I altered each of them a different color and then added a bit of each color to every leaf.

On the left is Vibez Quit Yer Wine -n, a gorgeous shade of wine.
The leaf on the right is coated with the new Shimmerz So Sappy. To this one, I added a bit of all the other colors.

Lastly, I splattered some Vibez Quit Yer Wine -n around my focal points.

One last shimmery look at that Penny 4 Your Thoughts Inklingz on my title chipboard.

Thanks for coming by today!

If you are shopping, don't forget to add my name Sandi on your order to receive a few surprise!

See you next time!

Live Inspired

Hi everyone! Melissa here with a page for Shimmerz Paints! I have used some of my favorite colors to help express my love of creating pages. The shimmer and quality of this line is amazing!

To make this page I used a small cosmetic sponge to make a base,on the center, so the 49 and Market paper didn't soak up the paint. I applied texture paste with a stencil. I put the photo on watercolor paper and layers of foam core board. I painted the watercolor paper with a mix of Blue My Mind, and Emerald City Inklingz. I put tulle around the photo to add definition.

I painted the Reneabouquet chipboard with gesso, Green Olive Shimmerz , Penny 4 Your Thoughts Inklingz, and a thick layer of  Rock Candy Crackle. I painted cheese cloth with Green Olive and a little water, and placed it around the photo.

To add visual interest I added micro beads, seed beads, glass glitter, diamond shards, mica flakes, Prima flowers, dried leaves, lichen, moss, shells, lace, tulle, pearls, rhinestones, Tim Holtz metal, chain, old jewelry, and sequins. The little wood spool has silk ribbon on it.

I added a lot of gesso around the edges because the page got too busy. I added Penny 4 Your Thoughts around the photo layers, on the background paper, to add definition. The pink colors I used are A Rose By Any Other NameDear John Letter, and Angels Kiss Inklingz.  I painted on gesso in different areas to make things look less busy.

Thank you so much for looking, and have a great week!

Romance

Hi everyone, here's my first page of the month for Shimmerz Paints! I have used a photo of my son and fiance that was professionally done.
The quality of these paints are really good. The pale peachy color is one of my all time favorites, I use it I think on every page I've done since I started on the team in January.  It's a rich, creamy, shimmery, container of loveliness, called Dear John Letter Inklingz. It looks good enough to eat!

To make this page I did the following:
1.Put piece of cardstock under photo, adhere with double sided foam tape
2.Adhere foam core board to cardstock.
3. Adhere to watercolor paper mat.
4. Adhere 2 layers of foam core board between the mat and background paper. I used a 12 x 12 piece of watercolor paper.
4. Make some pencil marks where you want stencil to go.
Apply texture paste in a thick layer with a Prima stencil and credit card.
6. Paint stenciled areas with Dear John Letter Inklingz, when the paste is dry.
7. Apply thick layer of Ranger Clear Rock Candy Crackle to raised texture paste, after the paint is dry.
8.Paint chipboard with a mix of Emerald City Inklingz and Penny 4 Your Thoughts Inklingz, when dry apply crackle.
9. Paint area between raised areas of texture paste with Penny 4 Your Thoughts
9.Start gluing all the embellishments on.

You can see some texture on the page, I used two layers of Tidy Widy Texturez, with a layer of gesso between them. The White Tidy Widy is nice and thick, and shiny! It's similar to texture paste.
I put a layer of Dear John Letter over the whole page. I also used it over small areas of gesso I put on almost every element on the page.
The metal rosette to left of Aron is by Finnabair, the little Eiffel Tower charm next to that is Vintaj. The metal key is by Tim Holtz, it's below the Prima rose. Next to the key is a small Celtic cross, from my stash.

I rubbed on silver mica powder on the page.

The flowers are from Prima. The rusty metal next to Nick's face is by Finnaabair.

I added some gold leaf, a few fairies cut from Graphic 45 Paper, and the gnome is from my stash. The bling is from Swarovski and Prima. Underneath the photo is metal by Tim Holtz: the peace token, heart, and flower piece.

The dried flowers are from walks I go on at the dog park with my dog Mack. The bee to the left of the rose is from some old Prima papers.

Thank you so much for looking, and have a very blessed week!

Together Is The Best Place To Be

Hi everyone! Melissa here with my second post of the month for Shimmerz Paints! I love the rich tones and sparkling effects I can achieve with Shimmerz! I have used an engagement photo of my son and his fiance.

To make this page I mounted the photo on watercolor paper. I used a layer of foam core board between the photo and the watercolor paper, and two layers underneath it and the background paper. The background paper is from Stamperia. I stenciled on some stars using a Tim Holtz stencil, and texture paste with an old credit card. I glued on the big Reneabouquets gears, and prepped them with gesso. I added two flowers from Prima. At this point I decided what colors to paint the gears and the paper. I used Penny 4 Your Thoughts Inklingz on the gears, and a mix of two colors on the paper: a lavender color Inklingz named Honeymoon, and Oakie Bear Blue Inklingz. On top of the two I added a light layer of the Penny color.

I added a thick layer of Ranger Clear Rock Candy on the chipboard. When it was dry, I added a small amount of I Love You Onyxly Inklingz to the edges of the chipboard, to help make the cracks more visible.

To add visual interest I added the following: micro beads, seed beads, charms,Jim Holtz metal, Finnabair metal, feathers from the bird bath in my yard, dried and pressed flowers, chain, gold leaf, black tulle, distress glitter, metal glitter, pearls, rhinestones, and more. I wanted to use some small chipboard hearts and stars in Tim Holtz shapes, but I only had the negative part of the chipboard left. I traced some new ones out onto watercolor paper, fussy cut them, painted them with Penny, and put crackle paint on.

The gold stars are Tim Holtz rub ons. The sand looking stuff is dry Ranger Distress Frayed Burlap embossing powder. With my finger I brushed on gold mica powder over dry gesso to kind of tone down the detail of the background paper. All the blue on the chipboard and the page is the same mix mentioned earlier.

Thank you so much for looking, and have a great week!

Little Book in the Making...

It's me, Joyce!  Glad you followed my Shimmerz Siren to bring you here today to share a little book I’ve been working on.  It’s a small book about three and one-half inch by five inches when closed.  Because it’s small ,it’s calling out for more details which means I may be working on this little project for some time.  In the meantime, I wanted to share my progress with you.

I’m a student of Laly Mille’s and am currently enrolled in her Little Whisper book course, and this is my interpretation of the course.  The fabrics, laces, papers and textures are neutral colors, and I added some lovely soft hues of Shimmerz Paints Bamboo Leaf Spritz, Penny 4 Your Thoughts Inklingz, and Coral Reef Inklingz. If you would like to make something similar, I strongly recommend you have some of these Shimmerz neutral products in your art arsenal.

Here are a few folio pages which include some additional mini pages that I have used for journaling. Some pages I have left blank for some personal journaling:

On the page below, I put a few drops of water in the little pot of Penny 4 Your Thoughts and let it sit a few minutes to thicken. Then I added some to coffee, stirred the mixture up and dipped fiber papers, glassine bags and fabrics in the mixture to age them. You can’t really see it in the photos but some of the edges of the journaling and fiber papers have a lovely soft shimmer on them from Penny 4 Your Thoughts. I love that!  I also added Penny 4 Your Thoughts to the button which then revealed the pattern on the button.  More texture…who doesn’t love that!

I open up the button flap in the picture below so that you can see some hidden work and journaling too:

Below is the full folio:

Coral Reef Inklingz was applied over the glassine bag in the photo below to add a subtle color to match the shell and bead charm I made.  Under each of the layered pieces of paper are hidden journaling with more dabs of Coral Ree.  The glassine bag was also treated with the Penny 4 Your Thoughts and coffee mixture, then crumbled up to let dry naturally. I like the aged look it reveals.

A full folio page below:

Here's one of my fav pages using Bamboo Leaf Spritz over the layered papers and a few droplets too. The original tag was white and I covered it with the Penny 4 Your Thoughts and coffee mixture, then added layered papers, and some stamp work too. I used an old make up sponge and applied the Bamboo Leaf Spritz to the edges of the journal page that contains some lacy bits. Inside the glassine bag are more hidden tags.

A full folio page:

Another folio page to share with you below. Notice the little "pull" lacy piece?

If you pull on the lacy piece, it reveals some more journaling:

I hope I have inspired you to use your Shimmerz Paints too!  I derived so much joy in making this little book, some journaling made me cry, some made me laugh, and it all touched my soul. As I  work through the details on other pages, I will share them with you in the future. Thanks for letting me share this project with you.

Dreams

Hello my Shimmerz friend’s, glad you followed my siren call to bring you here  today, because I am going to show you how to add some simple techniques to add interest to your art journal pages.   I look for elements in photo that I can try and artfully replicate like gowns that have patterns in the material, or some architectural element.  In this photo, I found the colors and the lovely lace work in the bodice of the gown creatively inspiring.  The following is how I tried to replicate the texture of the lacy bodice onto my book pages.

Art Journal Background Pages:
  • ·         Apply gesso on both pages randomly, and do not fill in the entire pages with gesso.  Leave some of the book page edges in their natural state.  The page will absorb the Shimmerz Paint differently and the same paint will adopt a different hue and texture. How cool is that?
  • ·         Emboss with a stamp, embossing ink, and white embossing powder randomly around the pages.
  • ·         Lightly spray Vibez Deep Blue Sea around the edges of the book pages and quickly use a dampened sea sponge to absorb excess color and soften the edges.  If you can see the hard spray on the paper, add a spritz of water to soften the color and make the sprayed marks disappear.  Let dry completely.  I prefer to let the paint dry naturally and not try to move the paint around with a heat gun…did I mention I have control issues? LOL.  Plus, leaving the paint to dry naturally adds more depth.
  • ·         Repeat the above application to add more depth of color.
  • ·         If your embossing images become saturate with color, you can use a damp sea sponge to clean it up.
  • ·         Some Paste-eez was used over a stencil randomly over the page leaving an ethereal patterned image.

Below is some Pasteez work:

Chipboard Element in picture above:  Chipboard remnants are my newfound interest…they look like puzzle pieces and are easy to tuck into clusters.
  • ·         Apply gesso to the chipboard.
  • ·         Use a very small paint brush and paint near the edge of the chipboard and leave some of the white gesso exposed. Here I used Inklingz Penny 4 Your Thoughts
  • ·         Apply another coat of paint, or a different color randomly on the chipboard making sure you don’t cover the white edged gesso. Here I used Shimmerz Blue Grass
  • ·
Lightly use a very fine black marker and pen around the edges next to the white gesso.

I hope I have inspired you to work in  your art journal this week using some Shimmerz goodness.
