May Color Kitz | Mother's Day Layout | Melissa Minor

 

Hi crafty friends! Melissa Minor @cards.by.melissaminor here on the blog today. I'm creating a Mother's Day layout using the May 2025 Color Kitz. I started my layout by using a tearing tool and tearing the yellow goose paper. I wanted to use this paper because it really reminded me of my boyfriend Dale's Mom. She has a paper mache goose in her house that she made. She's super crafty and has pointed out this goose to me many times. I mean this paper couldn't be any more perfect. The photos I'm documenting are of Dale's Mom Sandy and his Dad Albert. They are such a cute couple! 

After I finished tearing my paper I added a strip of mixed media cardstock that I painted. I added both of the greens from the kit this month Olive Branch-Spritz and Arti-Choked-Vibez. Then I added a little yellow distress oxide ink and a layer of the brand new Butter Believe It-Shimmerz. I made an oopsy when cutting my papers so I cut my page to 11x11 to cover my mistake. Then I matted onto a sheet of 12x12 white cardstock. 

I then took several of the pieces of ephemera from the kit and layered around my page. I created three embellishment clusters. These clusters are in a triangle and really help draw your eye around the page. Some of the ephemera pieces I layered up using foam tape for extra dimension.

Hey Shimmerz friends!

It's Jennifer today with my final project as a member of the Shimmerz team. The past year has been wonderful, and I have enjoyed every moment.

Lately, I've been on a rainbow kick so I figured creating one would be a perfect send off using the following Shimmerz colors.

Coloringz Heidi Ho Blue

To create the rainbow background, I applied each of the Shimmerz colors using the smushing method. In order to keep the colors from running and blending together, I made sure to completely dry each color before moving on to the next.

After each color dried, I went back and added splatters of paint using the same colors.

To create contrast with the rainbow background, I printed my photo in black and white. I love the effect.

Next, I dug some Studio Calico and Dear Lizzy patterned papers from my stash that are black and white to layer behind the photo.

The flowers that are layered across the page were all fussy cut and adhered with foam squares. I finished the project by adding a rainbow of enamel dots, the title with journaling, and patterned washi tape along the top and bottom borders.

I just love the black and white elements with the rainbow! The stark contrast is exactly the effect I was hoping to achieve.

Hello Shimmerz friends!

It's Jennifer today with a project documenting the current quarantine using several beautiful Shimmerz products.

Here's a look at the 12 x 12 layout I created using the following Shimmerz Paints and the Pinkfresh Studio Noteworthy Collection.

To get this look, I used the following Shimmerz:

Shimmerz Magenta

Shimmerz Pink

Creameez Boogie Boardin' Blue

Creameez Purple Rain

I love using Shimmerz to create unique backgrounds on my projects. For this, I cut the diamond shapes from a piece of patterned paper and then traced around one of them several times on white cardstock. Next, I painted several of the diamond shapes and set them aside to dry while I used the same Shimmerz colors on another piece of cardstock to create my background

After cutting out all of the diamonds, I used a disressing tool on the edges to give them more texture and dimension. 

My photos were printed in black and white and backed with strips of patterned paper from the same Pinkfresh collection. They were glued in place and then the photos were adhered over the top with foam squares.

I added a few embellishments around the photo and then went to work decorating the diamonds I painted. The accents were all color coordinated with each diamond to keep the layout from getting too busy.

Last, I added the title and journaling on opposite sides of the layout to create a visual line.

Seamless Ombree effects with Shimmerz pots of shimmery goodness with Beck Beattie

Hi Everyone, Beck Beattie here today sharing a fun and easy way to create an ombre effect with Shimmerz paint.  I love the shimmery goodness that are contained in these pots, and sometimes even a bonus that with just a little stir it is ready to go!

Shimmerz Products Used:
Shimmerz - Bubble Gum Blast
Shimmerz - Antique Lace
Shimmerz - Candlelight

I want to take you through how easy it is to create a beautiful and seamless ombre effect.  You could do this with different colours like I have or different tones of the same colour.  The biggest thing to remember to get the full effect is to work from dark to light or light to dark in your choice of colours.

Take the first colour - in my case this is Bubblegum Blast and colour a third in a sweeping motion across your cardstock with a paint brush.

 

Next I repeated the process overlapping the first color a little.  This time I used the 'Antique Lace' colour for the middle portion of my ombre effect.

The third and last portion of the ombre effect was created with the 'Candlelight' colour.  It was a perfect fit with the other two colors and again I was sure to overlap the colours.  You can see the gradual color blend so nicely when it dried.

I added some sweet die cut elements onto the card to finish and I just love how it finished up.  Here are some more pictures for you to enjoy.

'Lovely' shimmery card with Beck BT

Hi Everyone, it's Beck BT here and I have a 'lovely' card to share with you in every sense of the word!  I just love how sweet this card came perfect to give a friend.

 I loved using the Creameez and Inklingz to create a beautiful contrasting base to the chipboard stickers I used.  I also adore how the foiled pattern paper resisted the paint making it look like the paint was simply a part of the original paper!
