November Color Challenge "Canvas" with Sandi Clarkson

Hello, Shimmerz Paints fans!
Thanks for coming by!

Sandi here today.  I'm excited to be sharing my newest canvas. Doing canvases are "liberating" for me because I can just create without worrying about any associated photo.

Here at Shimmerz Paints we are doing another Color Challenge this month and this time I chose Spritz Plum Pudding. Our DT coordinator asked us to choose something that we normally would not use. For me that is usually more of the pinks and purples. I tend to use lots of earth tones instead. Also, we were supposed to go with a Winter theme.

To re-inforce the Winter theme, I added a chipboard title from Creative Embellishments that says "Let it Snow" and simply painted it white.

This side angle helps to highlight the beautiful shimmer of all the colors.

I used 6 different colors (listed below) on my canvas by spraying them and then letting the color drip downward. At times, I had to move them a bit with water. For the purpose of this challenge, I went heavier with the Plum Pudding Spritz since that was my chosen color. Some areas got a heavier shot of spray that I allowed to puddle such as Vibez Quit Yer Wine-n. That made it more intense and added some drama.
For texture I pushed some super heavy gesso through a stencil.

Of course, I had to do some background stamping to add depth and visual interest.
The dark purple right beneath the title is the Plum Pudding ... in case you haven't found it! And there is the Coloringz Well Blue Me Down over on the far right, a lovely teal.

I love jazzing up my canvases with complimentary colors, so you can see the Vibez Palm ReaderVibez Glorious Day and Vibez Pop Art Pink. The rich wine you see is the Vibez Quit Yer Wine-n.
Lastly, I added a stock photo, some layers, florals .... a few pearls and called it done.

Here are the Shimmerz Products that I've used:

Vibez Glorious Day
Vibez Quit Yer Wine-n
Vibez Palm Reader
Vibez Pop Art Pink
Spritz Plum Pudding

Again, thanks for coming by today. We hope you'll join along in the Color Challenge!
Be sure to mention my name SANDI if you do some retail shopping and Stacey will include a little freebie for ya!

See you again next week!

Boys will be Boys ~ Altered Canvas with Sandi Clarkson

Hello, fellow scrappers!
Sandi here with you today sharing my favorite project of the year so far ... and a joint Design Team project for  Shimmerz Paints and Creative Embellishments.

I've had this heart-shaped watercolor canvas by Crate Paper for over a year and had not found quite the right use for it .. until the other day.  This cute photo of the grand boys screamed for something unique.

The first step was applying the color to the background which I did with a limited rainbow design. I started on the right with Glorious Day Vibez, then added in Palm Reader Vibez and lastly Well Blue Me Down Coloringz.  After that, I added texture using the Creative Embellishments Circle Bokeh Stencil and super heavy gesso. When that was dry, I re-applied the paints as needed as well as splattered droplets creating interest. For depth I used the CE Distressed Crackle Stamp around the edges of the heart.

Next I began altering my chipboard pieces. The Boys will be boys was first stained with Hot Fudge Vibez and then hit with Rolling in the Hay Vibez . I seriously love how it turned out!

The Cattails were so fun to alter. You will need 2 of them. First the stems were painted with Green Olive, then blasted with the Rolling in the Hay Vibez and some of the Glorious Day Vibez for a hint of yellow.
I took a cue from fellow CE team member Jen Snyder and pulled out the Stickles for the heads of the cattails which gave them great texture. They were sprayed with Rolling in the Hay Vibez to reduce the shine.

Here they are all done up! Aren't they perfect? The use of multiple colors makes them look more real, I think.

The sweet photo was framed with the "family frame" from the Together Frame Set. This frame was treated the same as the Boys will be boys title piece but turned out a little lighter, probably due to less stain. I also tied a little jute bow to the side of it.

Behind the photo, I placed a bit of actual chicken wire, then aded my flowers and art stones. Lastly, I used my finger to trace some of the Hot Fudge Vibez around the edge of the heart for dimension.

This was a super fun project to create. Don't be afraid to use those odd canvases to showcase a treasured photo!

Thanks for coming by today!

Altered Canvas Board with Astrid

Hello all, today I would like to share a little canvas board I made with you.
This started life as a little 5 x 7 canvas board to which I attached several die cuts and a little paper clay embellishment made with the help of a mould. This is what it looked like to start with:
Here is a list of the products I used to turn it into what it looks like now:
Vibez: Egg Noggin, Palm Reader and Before Dawn
Shimmerz: Celery, Golden Wheat, Cofee
Inlingz: Penny For Your Thoughts.
Below a few step by step photos of what I did: I started by adding some clear crackle glaze and when dry gave it a few sprays of Palm Reader, letting it sink into the cracks

Next I started the process of slowly deepening the colours with a mix of sprays and paints applied loosely, to give a kind of back ground glow.
Next came the painstaking work of applying a variety of colours to the openings between the die cuts and the die cuts themselves.
Bringing out the textures on the ornament with the help of all these lovely shimmering paints.
The white on the flowers was done with gesso, all the rest is the Shimmerz paints, adding shadows with darker colours around the flowers to bring them to the foreground a bit more.
The very outer edge, after using the Coffee Shimmerz paint, was deepened a bit further still using a Big Brush pen.
And here at last the finished canvas. I fixed a little easel stand (created with a Tim Holtz/Sizzix die) at the back, so it can stand up. I like giving these little canvasses to people as an extra special card and they are great fun to do, specially with the help of all these lovely shimmering paints and sprays.

Well, that's it for today, thanks for your visit like always. Don’t forget, if you mention my name in the "comments" section of your shopping cart when placing your Shimmerz order you will receive free paint. Shop Shimmerz HERE and connect with us on Facebook, too!

Vintage altered canvas by Astrid

Hello Shimmerz fans, thanks for dropping by here! This is Astrid sharing a vintage altered canvas with you with a quick step by step:
I used one of my favourite colour combinations, blues and browns with a touch of green.
These are the Shimmerz products I used:
Coloringz Well Blue Me Down, Night Moves
Vibez Jeni B Blue & Blue Jeans
Spritz Truffle
Creameez Sage It Isn't So
Shimmerz Celery & Coffee
I started with a small  5 x 7" canvas, added some crackle paste through a stencil and when that had dried, added some embellishments (Dusty Attic and Calico Craftparts) and some flowers from my stash
.

I adhered them with gel medium and when everything had dried covered it all with Gesso.

Because I love the way the Shimmerz products sink in between the cracks, I also added some crackle paste to my embellishment at the bottom.
Time to start playing with the sprays and paints (my favourite bit, so much fun).
I started with the lightest colour and then built up the layers, drying with my heat gun in between, using a paint brush, my fingers and a baby wipe, until I was happy with the result.

Here's a close up of the crackly bits, I just loves how it looks... :o)
Now all I needed to do, was adding my focal image (I chose one of the Tim Holtz Found Relatives). I also added a little butterfly still, covered with some Glassy Accents.
The final steps were to add some background stamping (it would have been better for sure if I had thought of that earlier)...., a sentiment (using Tim Holtz word stickers) and some shadows around my image and embellishments to add more depth. I used my Coloringz spray in Night Moves and a small paint brush for that.

Now before I sign off remember, you can order Shimmerz products directly from the Shimmerz Paints Store. If you do, don't forget to mention my name (Astrid Maclean) in the «Instruction to Merchant/seller» part of your order form (just below your name and address). Well, have a creative week and thanks so much for visiting today!

Create with Shimmerz and Amy Prior

Hi everyone! Amy Prior back with you all again today to share another recent creation using tonnes of gorgeous Shimmerz paint products.

I have recently been spending lots of time reorganising my scrap studio and I wanted to create some new decor items to add to the space as the ones I had were made over 7 years ago so needed updating. My style has changed dramatically in 7 years.

I had these gorgeous raw Natural Canvas Banner pieces in my stash (amazing what you find when you clean, sort and organise your space). I knew they were perfect for my first decor piece and when I realised that I had 6 pennants, the perfect word came to mind to use and that was "Create".

I have quite a large stash of old Chipboard letters in a box but I could not find the same type of letters in either upper-case complete or lower-case complete. I went with a mix of both and I just love the whimsy look it gives to the finished project.

The Canvas Pennants were raw so after wetting them with lots of water, I started to add various colours of Shimmerz to the background to create gorgeous girlie rainbows over each piece.

I was running low on Pink Shimmerz so I have also added some Beets Me Inklingz to the backgrounds because, well, it is my favourite LOL. Next step was to paint my chipboard letters and I went with White to create a nice contrast against the intense colours of the background. I am just so chuffed with how this turned out.

Final touches included lots of gorgeous little flowers mainly Scrappers Garden & Petaloo plus some Flourish with a Bling pearls scattered around. The petals of the flowers and leaves were given a little dip of Tidy Widy Texturez to bring that white into them a little.

Shimmerz Paint products used include...
Shimmerz in Tickle Me Turquoise, Sunny, Pink, Key Lime, Jilted Jade & Magenta colours,
Inklingz in Beets Me colour,
Dazzlerz in Spun Sugar colour,
Texturez in Tidy Widy colour.

Thanks so much for stopping by and until next time, happy scrapping!

Above all else, guard your heart with Amy Prior

Hi everyone! Amy Prior back with you all today with a canvas that I have created using so many Shimmerz products. From Shimmerz to Dimensionz, Dazzlerz to Inklingz, this canvas is packed full of it all and full of gorgeous color. To start this canvas off, I have covered the background with various shades of Shimmerz, Inklingz, Dimensionz & Dazzlerz paints. Full list of colors I have used are below.

There was no real method to the madness, I just wanted to get lots of different colors and textures onto my background as a starting point. I have then added some Dazzlerz paints over the top of 2 stencils to add pops of interesting contrast and more color and texture. When I was adding the Dazzlerz, I was not afraid to let the colors mix a little to create fun marbling patterns in the stencilled texture.

When the Dazzlerz was dry, I have added lots of black to the canvas by simply rubbing my Archival Ink Pad in black over the entire surface and concentrating on pressing harders on the edges and corners to define a sort of border. Next I have added some Inka Gold Rub N Buff over the the texture randomly to bring some metallic color back into my background.

The next step was to add some Good as Gold Inklingz to this gorgeous Blue Fern Studios chipboard frame and then adhere this as well as lots of gorgeous flowers to the canvas. To finish off my flower clusters, I have added some Flourish with a Bling Black Rhinestone flourishes as well as some Blue Fern Studio Chipboard butterflies that were colored with Dimensionz paints.

The final addition for this canvas was a favorite bible verse of mine using some American Crafts Thickers and then finished off with some Inka Gold Rub N Buff to bring the gold into the centre a little more.

Shimmerz Productz Used Include...
Inklingz in Beets Me, Good as Gold, Giddy About Green, Sun Kissed, Meet Me @ Sunset, Pink-a-Boo, Blue My Mind, I'm Not Limon, Gosh Garnet,
Dimensionz in Blue Lagoon, Witchy Poo, Streets of Gold, Copperhead, Green Thumb, Red Rover, Orange You Pretty & Pumped Up Purple,
Dazzlerz in Sour Apple, Licorice Stick, Pucker Up Pink, Dreamsicle, Lemon Drop, Grape-Tastic, Gumme Bear Blue, Jelly Bean Green,
Shimmerz in Celery, Wed Wagon, Key Lime, Tickle Me Turquoise, Pink, Royal Purple & Sunny.

Hi Crafters :)

Today I want to share with you guys an altered canvas I made for Shimmerz. The color theme I am going for is red, yellow and purple. I added some green and turquoise color as well just to break the warmness the canvas has.

I sprayed the background with No Yoking (coloringz), Princess (Vibez), and Grape Escape (Vibez) first. Then I cut out some sticky back fabric strips and layered them onto the canvas. I then sprayed the same colors onto the fabric strips.

Here is the start-to-finish video:

The cute wood door and spoon are from SaCrafters and the wing and gears are from Creative Embellishment. I colored each embellishment with different art medium to make them match the color theme, and give them more texture.

These two metal filigree flowers are inspired by Cynthialoowho on youtube. I colored the flower with Jilted Jade and Periwinkle (shimmerz). Like I mentioned before, I used some blue and turquoise color to break the super warm theme.

I had so much fun creating this canvas, hope you like it too :)))

Check out Shimmerz Blog and Shimmerz FaceBook.
