"Yes!" ~ a wedding layout with Sandi Clarkson

Hello, scrappy friends!
Tomorrow is Valentine's Day. So, how about a sweet wedding layout to celebrate?
It's Sandi here today touting the beauty of the Shimmerz Paints products!

I love how this layout featuring one of my nieces turned out. After starting with a coat of clear gesso, I played around with my design and planned where my elements would be.

Next I heat embossed my chipboard piece and assembled my paper layers. I marked where they belonged and then got busy adding my color.

and ...

This time instead of using my tried and true" transfer" technique, I went back to basics and just painted my color on with a small paintbrush and then sprayed my strokes with water from a misting bottle. After applying the water, I just moved my paper around and let the watercolor effect emerge! Sometimes, I added more water and at other times, I added back in some more of the color.

Based on my chosen patterned paper from Blue Fern Studios, I used Coloringz Pink StilettosVibez Palm Reader and Vibez Glorious Day.

Here are some close-ups:

I was so pleased with how the color and shimmer turned out!
It really draws the eye to the photo.

Thanks for coming by today.
I hope you've been inspired to create.

Today's post will be my last for Shimmerz Paints for this term.
I thank Stacey and Sami so very much for having me here.
It's a very bittersweet kind of day but I've so enjoyed my time here as part of this team.

"By the Fire" ~ Altered Control Board with Sandi

Hey, hey, Shimmerz Paints fans!
Sandi Clarkson here with you today sharing my latest project .. an altered furnace control board!

The back story here is that our heat went out late Christmas Eve and was not restored until January 2nd! It was a very long, miserable week to say the least. So, when the repairmen handed me this burned out control board, I knew I had to alter it and memorialize that we survived! Thank goodness for electricity and that Lowe's had plenty of space heaters.

The second back story is that when I get a new shipment of product from Shimmerz, I always open it as soon as I possibly can and sit down and spray (or brush) them all out on the "nearest to me" sheet of white paper! Maybe even a paper towel. So, I wanted my project to sort of replicate that habit. Since rainbow patterns are popular in crafting, I went with that!

My first step was to paint the control board white using some glass bead texture paste. Once that was dry, I began to spray from left to right.  My colors used were the following:

To amp up that glorious texture created by the object itself, I added some like-colored glass beads here and there.
Then I added my flower and mechanical light bulb.

Here's another angle of what and my hubby and I are calling our little city! Haha!

My title is from 7 Dots and is sort of another tongue in cheek gimmick!
Yes, I am trying to make the best of our adventure.
It could have been soooo much worse!

Here you can see the netting I added under the florals.
The chicken wire is solely for photographing.

Trying to show you a close-up of the beads.

One last photo and I guess I'm done!
I hope you are inspired.

This was one of those fun, cathartic projects.
Just aim and spray to your hearts content!
Loving my Shimmerz Paints!

Altered Paint Brush with Sandi Clarkson

Hello, scrappy friends!
Are you ready for Christmas? I'm getting there but whew, it's a little crazy around here!

I'm up today with a fun, Altered Paint Brush project!
I've been wanting to do another one and so, asked the hubby a few weeks back if he had an old, used one in the garage. Sure enough he did and here is the transformation!
So pleased with how it turned out!

Since it was in such bad shape, I added a layer of white gesso and allowed that to dry. Then I covered the entire paint brush with Inklingz-Miner-Miner-49er. The project required several coats but was sure worth it!

I wanted to have an almost "chipped paint" look, so after the Inklingz-Miner-Miner-49er dried, I added some Coloringz-Scarletts-Fever to the side and on the bristles of the brush. I went with red because I found this scrap of red pattern paper from years ago and really love it! I think it was BoBunny but I'm not really sure.

After choosing a couple of Creative Embellishments chipboard pieces, I primed them and gave them color with my Vibez-Snow-Way-Man. After they were glued to the brush, I coated them with some Diamond Dust. The chipboard was further embellished with floral and pearls.

I felt that the bristles needed a little more emphasis, so I added some Vibez-Glorious-Day to create a little more sparkle!

Lastly, I added a little narrow blue ribbon and considered it done!
I'm loving the Creative Embellishment new Artist Trading Coins and finding so many ways to use them!

Here are the Shimmer products utilized and there is a product list below.

Thanks for coming by today!

Merry Christmas! with Sandi Clarkson

Hello, scrappy friends!
It's Sandi Clarkson here with you today sharing a new Design Team layout created using Creative Embellishments and Shimmerz Paints

This adorable photo is of my cousin's grandson taken a few years ago. She reminded me of it a couple of months ago, so I put it on to-do list for this time of year.

I wish the photos could do justice to just how pretty and shimmery this layout is truly is.
My background papers are some older Graphic 45 Christmas papers that went well with my sweet photo.

My background was prepared with clear gesso and then I added some super heavy gesso pushed through the CE Falling Stars Stencil. The colorizing around the photo cluster was done later with my Shimmerz Vibez Rolling in the Hay. It's a darker, more vintage gold than Vibez Glorious Day. It really adds just the right amount of oomph to my cluster.

I had just received the CE Tall Trees chipboard in the mail and thought they would be perfect for this project! I altered them with Shimmerz Green Olive original paint and then lightly sprayed them with Vibez Palm Reader for a little more glimmer. Later I went back and splattered everything with Vibez Snow Storm which gave a snowy look to the entire page  .. even better than gesso. As you can see see, I also added some art stones here and there.

Here you can also see some of the CE Falling Stars Stencil work as well as my random stamping with the CE Circle Bokeh Stamp.

I wanted to frame my photo with more than just cardstock, so I used one of the Creative Embellishments Mint Box Flourish Frame Set 2 and altered it the same way as the chipboard trees for a cohesive look. It was placed underneath the photo so that I wouldn't lose any photo details.
Just to add a little bling, I added some green flat back pearls to the frame and to the trees.

Another sweet little snowy tree and more stamp work.  You can also barely see the end of the CE Wavy Music Note Border which I altered with Walnut stain. I thought it made a great little "road" for my sweet fella driving his Christmas tree home.

Here is the lefthand portion of the CE Wavy Music Note Border. Also you will note lots of the added art stones which were first sprayed with my Vibez Glorious Day. Later, I decided to spray them with my Vibez Snow Storm instead to make them white like snow. However, the gold edges still show and make them glisten a bit more which I like.

I finished the layout with a very old Petaloo vine that I had on hand. I updated it by spraying the flowers with my Vibez Glorious Day. Because I'm trying to use up my old Christmas stash, I added a few 3-D candies and some old buttons. Why, oh why do I have so much Christmas paper?

Quick, Fun Christmas tags with Sandi

 Hello, scrappy friends!

Sandi here today sharing some quick, fun Christmas tags to use on those Christmas gifts you're busy wrapping!

Although my own Christmas colors are neutral white, creams and copper, I decided to let the Sugar Plum Fairies dance in my head for a few minutes and produce me some sweet, sugar-y colors!

So, I chose Vibez Forget Me NotVibez Snow Way Man and Vibez Pop Art Pink for my base colors and Paste Eez Salt of the Earth for my background texture.

Using ordinary office tags, I had me a little "play" in the craft room!

I started by swiping the tags with clear gesso and then adding my Paste Eez Salt of the Earth through
a stencil.

While that was drying, I chose and painted a bunch of Christmas chipboard pieces with white acrylic paint. For a flocked and textured effect, I added some glitter snow to the trees.

Next, I went back to my tags and applied the colors with a paintbrush.

Above is a close-up of the Vibez Forget Me Not. Look at that shimmer!~

Here is the sweet Vibez Pop Art Pink one! This is a really pretty baby pink!

The last thing I did was add the ribbons and splattered some white paint over the tags for a snowy, uniform look.

I've been looking for a chance to use my Vibez Snow Way Man blue. It is so gorgeous. Depending on the intensity that you desire, you can of course, water this down for a lighter touch.

Doing these little tags is also a great to get familiar with the colors you have on hand before trying them a special project!

So, now I'm all set with at least 3 tags for my Christmas presents!
You can be too by shopping the Shimmerz Paints Store for the colors you need.
Don't forget to use my name SANDI for a little free gift with order!
See you next time!

November Color Challenge "Canvas" with Sandi Clarkson

Hello, Shimmerz Paints fans!
Thanks for coming by!

Sandi here today.  I'm excited to be sharing my newest canvas. Doing canvases are "liberating" for me because I can just create without worrying about any associated photo.

Here at Shimmerz Paints we are doing another Color Challenge this month and this time I chose Spritz Plum Pudding. Our DT coordinator asked us to choose something that we normally would not use. For me that is usually more of the pinks and purples. I tend to use lots of earth tones instead. Also, we were supposed to go with a Winter theme.

To re-inforce the Winter theme, I added a chipboard title from Creative Embellishments that says "Let it Snow" and simply painted it white.

This side angle helps to highlight the beautiful shimmer of all the colors.

I used 6 different colors (listed below) on my canvas by spraying them and then letting the color drip downward. At times, I had to move them a bit with water. For the purpose of this challenge, I went heavier with the Plum Pudding Spritz since that was my chosen color. Some areas got a heavier shot of spray that I allowed to puddle such as Vibez Quit Yer Wine-n. That made it more intense and added some drama.
For texture I pushed some super heavy gesso through a stencil.

Of course, I had to do some background stamping to add depth and visual interest.
The dark purple right beneath the title is the Plum Pudding ... in case you haven't found it! And there is the Coloringz Well Blue Me Down over on the far right, a lovely teal.

I love jazzing up my canvases with complimentary colors, so you can see the Vibez Palm ReaderVibez Glorious Day and Vibez Pop Art Pink. The rich wine you see is the Vibez Quit Yer Wine-n.
Lastly, I added a stock photo, some layers, florals .... a few pearls and called it done.

Here are the Shimmerz Products that I've used:

Vibez Glorious Day
Vibez Quit Yer Wine-n
Vibez Palm Reader
Vibez Pop Art Pink
Spritz Plum Pudding

Again, thanks for coming by today. We hope you'll join along in the Color Challenge!
