Say Hello to Fall with Shimmerz

Hey Shimmerz friends!

I have to admit that when it comes to making cards I am totally on the struggle bus . . . I am not sure what it is, but I find them so difficult to put together. In order to push myself creatively, I have been trying to use new techniques as well as create projects that are out of my comfort zone. Today, I'm sharing this fall-themed greeting card that I made with a mix of beautiful Shimmerz colors along with digital cut files and circle dies.

For the base, I used premade greeting cards from my local craft store. Next, I used two circle dies and cut patterned paper from the Carta Bella Fall Market collection. Each layer of patterened paper was adhered to the base using foam squares with a piece of white cardstock on top of those.

Now to the leaves . . .  these were cut on my Silhouette Cameo 3 using white cardstock. While the leaves were still on the mat - and before I had taken any paper off - I began spritzing them with various Shimmerz colors.

Here's a list of what I used.

Coloringz: My Bleeding Heart
Shimmeringz: Goldie Lox
Texturez: Gold Mine

After the paints had dried, I used a brush to apply Texturez Gold Mine to the center of each one. The effect is so amazing . . . the gold just seems to glow from the centers and the texture makes it really pop.

Next, I added a second leaf cut file to the top of each. I decided early on to focus on the solid background of each leaf for the colors while leaving the tops white. Once they were dried, I nestled them into each of the circle layers with foam squares and tied a ribbon on the bottom.

Last was the Hello sentiment using Thickers and wood dots from my stash.

Here's one last look at the completed card.

I'm thinking there may be more card making in my future!

My Heart | Jen McMurtrey

Hey Shimmerz friends!

When I am creating projects, one of my go-to favorites is to use digital cut files - I love having the ability to alter them to fit whatever it is I may be working on. For today's project, I want to show you how I used multiple Shimmeringz products to make a few flowers come to life.

First, here's a look at the entire layout . . .

This photo of my daughters was begging to be used on a layout, and I decided to focus on the flowers that can be seen along the top edge.

To begin, I used the Funky Florals cut file from The Cut Shoppe and cut two complete sets using white cardstock. While the cardstock was still on my Silhouette mat, I began painting the flowers with some of my favorite Shimmerz colors.

For each flower, I alternated colors using Creameez Great Fruit, Red Necking, and Just Peachie

The leaves were painted using Creameez Ride the Tide.

Once the paints had dried, I removed them from the cutting mat and adhered them to a piece of white cardstock using Mono glue. Using each of the colors listed above along with Shimmeringz Goldie Lox and Vibez Egg Noggin', I splattered paint over the top of the flowers and on the cardstock.

When embellishing the project, I pulled from a couple of Pinkfresh Studio collections. I adhered the frame to my photo and then placed those on top of the flower cluster with foam squares.

I continued embellishing using Pinkfresh products and wood confetti from Elle's Studio. The journaling strips were typed on my manual typewriter and placed below the title.

I'm totally loving the way these flowers turned out, and it is so easy to get this effect on your projects!!

Thanks for sticking with to end of this post . . . remember, when ordering products from Shimmerz, enter JENNIFER in the comments at checkout and you'll receive a freebie!!

Have a great day!

Pretty as a Picture, a Yellow Layout with Karine

My dear crafty friends,

I'm up again today on the blog to share another layout. This one is called Pretty as a Picture. Here it is.

When I started my layout, I used crackled paint. When the paint was dry, I sprayed Don't Be Suede Coloringz over it and wiped it off to make the crack show. You can see the subtle result on the picture below.

I thought that was pretty, but I wanted to add more texture. I used my Gold Mine Texturez and scraped some off here and there with a palet knife.

I then made some drops with Tuscan Sun Spritz and a paint brush. I used a bit of water in some places to vary the effect.

When that was dry, I took again my Don't Be Suede Coloringz and created little drops here and there, to add contrast.

I did the same with Egg Noggin' Vibez and sprayed a little bit of water. I wanted a soft and subtle effect.

My chipboards are from 2Crafty Chipboard: Maggie's Swirls and Pretty as a Picture title piece.

My inspiration came from the gorgeous Mixed Media and Art challenge going on right now. Here is the board that inspired me. Of course, I was inspired by the color, but also from the peeled and crackled paint and the sketch, that I moved a bit more in the center.

Follow your Heart, a layout with Karine

Hello crafty friends,

I'm here today to share yet another layout I made a few days ago.

I was inspired by the colors from the paper.

I used Salt of the Earth Paste-Eez through a stencil. I love the texture I got.

As far as color goes, I started with Deep Blue Sea Vibez. When it was dry, I used some Egg Noggin' Vibez. It was pretty, but I thought it needed more contrast, so I added Tuscan Sun Spritz. Finally, to add a little more depth, I used Ride the Tide Creameez.

My chipboards are from 2Crafty Chipboards.

A Moment to Treasure, a soft layout with Karine

Hi there,

I'm here today to share a layout I made a few days ago with lots of goodies from Shimmerz Paints.

A Moment to Treasure

I started out with this pale paper. I wanted a soft feel to go with this picture of my daughter. To build my background, I used mostly Egg Noggin' Vibez, Tuscan Sun Spritz and a few drops of Bamboo Leaf Spritz. I also added Evergreen Shimmerz diluted with water.

I love the warm yellow of the Tuscan Sun Spritz against the pale green of the Bamboo Leaf Spritz.

To add some texture, I used The Cream Team Paste-Eez through a stencil. I thought it matches the warmth of the Tuscan Sun Spritz.

To paint my chipboard, I used first a coat of white gesso and to add color, I painted some Bamboo Leaf Spritz and touches of Evergreen Shimmerz.

Scrapbooking Tutorial- Simple Trees with Irit

Hi! Irit here, and I'm excited to share a new project I created. It's my take on a holiday themed scrapbook layout, and I had to use my favorite colors, even though they are not the traditional holiday colors. Here's my finished project-

I used the following sprays to created this background- Vibez in Razzle Dazzle, Blushing Bride, Snow Storm and Egg Noggin', Coloringz in No Yoking and Mandarin Mai Tai.

You can see exactly how I made this in the video tutorial I created (keep on scrolling to see).

I used some Pretty Little Studio goodies to embellish my layout.

Adding details with black pen is a great way to add some definition and  interest to the final piece.

Here's the video-

Adorable - A sweet layout with Karine

Hi,
I'm sharing today a layout made while playing with my Shimmerz Paints. I can't get enough of this stuff!

My background is made with thorn doilies glued with gel medium, modeling paste, very heavy gesso and joint tape.

I wanted soft colors that will suit my paper colors and that will make my daughter pretty skin stand out. I chose Bed of Roses Spritz and Egg Noggin' Vibez. I applied one color at a time, making bigger or smaller drops with my paint brush. I made sure to heat set my first color before adding the second one: I didn't want them to blend.

My chipboards are from Blue Fern Studios. The title (Adorable) is also from Blue Fern Studios. I used my two Shimmerz Paints colors to paint it.
