Good Stuff | Niki Rowland with Process Video

Hey everyone, this is Niki (@nikiclairecreates) with you today with a new layout and process video. I have been using a selection of blues and purples to create my background.

I have used the packaging technique to make the background with the following colours:
I used packaging to get the water colour effect but also added areas of the dark colours with my paintbrush. This was so I could apply a small amount of the dark colour and had more control. I didn't want to lose my light colours under too much dark, so using a paintbrush made that possible.

I added lots of splatters in the same colours and then used my mixed media area as a basis for my layout. I layered up a large tag over the paint, and then added my photo to that. I then built up the elements of my layouts from there.

I added in some wood veneer arrows. I really love to use wood veneer on my layouts becuase they take paint really well. There can therefore be adapted to suit any mixed media layout! I painted the Love This arrow in Purple Peony and the other smaller arrow in Ride the Tide.

Here's another look at the finished layout. There is also a process video for this layout which you can view below.

Thank you so much for joining me today, I hope you have enjoyed this layout and that you also enjoy the process video. Don't forget that if you place an order via the Shimmerz Store, put my name in the comments to get a freebie!

Strong Together | Ericka Strange

Happy Monday Shimmerz Fanz and I hope the start of this new week finds you healthy and well. Ericka here with another card I made for the Shimmerz Spring Forward Challenge. The challenge is all about making a layout or card WITHOUT using PATTERNED PAPER!! I made a fun background using Tidy Widy Texturz with some Sprtiz and Coloringz.

I started with some Bristol Smooth cardstock and sprayed a couple of layers of Chick-a-Dee Spritz. Once it was dry, I mixed some Tidy Widy Texturez with some 4 Leaf Clover Sprtiz. Texturez have a grit or snady texture in the paste and I used my palette knife to spread it around my background. I sprayed some In Deep Coloringz on some plastic and added smooshed it on the background to give it additional texture.

I knew I wanted to use this Strong Sentiment from Ellen Hutson but my card needed something else, so decided to include the Bear from the All Inside set as well.

I sprayed the bear with Grey Flannel Vibez and added a little colored pencil for additional details. I also added some white gel pen to his eyes and a little pink to his cheeks. I painted the bunny with Ride the Tide Creameez and added it to my bear.

I made a little sign by attaching the Together sentiment which is part of the Be Strong set and added a little handle for him to hold.

I finished my card with a die cut sentiment and Glossy Accents for shine!

Do What you Love with Process Video | Spring Forward Challenge | Niki Rowland

Hey everyone, this is Niki with you today with a new layout to share for the Shimmerz Spring Forward Challenge.
The challenge is to make a layout with NO PATTERNED PAPER!! I actually quite like this challenge as even though I have been trying to use more patterned paper recently, using none (or very little) is actually well within my comfort zone!

There is a process video for this layout that can be viewed at the end of the blog post.

For my layout, I decided to go with a rainbow theme. I have used six different Shimmerz Paints:

I have applied them to the background using the packaging technique and also a paintbrush. I also added splatters to each colour.

After completing my mixed media background, I added my photos and then began embellishing. I added the large rainbow together with a rainbow Dotz. I fussy cut some clouds and used those as embellishments all over the background too.

I finished with stickers, gold thread and some teeny tiny rainbows that I fussy cut from a journaling card and added to the clouds. Here's another look at the finished layout:

I hope you have enjoyed my layout today. There is a process video too which can be viewed below.

I hope you play along with the Spring Forward Challenge - I look forward to seeing what you create! You can simply share your creation on the Shimmerz Sharez Facebook Group or anywhere on social media using the hashtag #shimmerzspringchallenge.

Holiday Cheer | Julee Tilman

Hi Shimmerz friends! It's Julee Tilman popping in with another shimmery card creation. This go round, I wanted to just watercolor, so pulled out a large flower stamp and some favorite Shimmerz colors and got to work.

The poinsettia image is embossed in white on a large panel of watercolor paper.  I then colored the poinsettia with Great Fruit, the greenery with Emerald City and did a wash around the image with Ride the Tide. I love how soft these colors are.

Next I got out a Cut-Align ruler and pen knife to help me cut the panel down to card front size without cutting off the petals or leaves. This large stamped image is larger than a card front and I love the way it just kind of sprawls off the edges.

Once the panel was cut, I added the stamped sentiment, then masked off the flower and sentiment with the stamps and splattered some Well Blue Me Down and some Snow Storm splatters around the edges.

A black mat sets it off and helps ground the sentiment a bit.  I embellished with some holeless sequins, a few pearls and a bit of sheer ribbon to finish things off.

Thanks so much for stopping by today! I hope your day Shimmerz!

Being Invested with Process Video | Niki Rowland

Hi everyone, Niki here today with a new layout to share. I've used wide paint strokes to create the background for this layout.
I've used a mixture of Inklingz and Creameez and added a small amount of water to each colour. Once the paint had activated a bit I used a wide paintbrush and painted directly onto my white background.

The colours I've used are:
Honeymoon Inklingz
Teal the End of Time Shimmerz
Boogie Boardin’ Blue Creameez
Ride the Tide Creameez
Green Grass Inklingz
Freshly Minted Inklingz

Once the background stripes were dry, I then went back and added paint splatters over the top of each stripe. I did this colour-on-colour style.

I've used a mixture of different paper collections to create this layout, but mostly Crate Paper All Heart. Even though this collection was aimed towards girls, I found lots of things that were relevant to this story and worked really well.

I added machine stitching and also used tissue paper and tulle for extra texture. I fussy cut some stars and used an acrylic word for a title, as well as little alpha stickers too.

Thanks so much for joining me today, I hope you have enjoyed this layout. I have also put together a process video which you can view below.

Don't forget if you place an order via the Shimmerz Store, enter my name in the comments and you will get a little freebie in with your order.

March Card Making Kit | Julee Tilman

Hi Shimmerz friends! Have you checked out the March Card Making Kit yet? It's a darling little kit that includes circus themed stamps, coordinating dies, AND a fabulous spring color palette all at a steal of a price! If you want a close up look at things, I created a little walk through video of what's included, which you can view below or on my YouTube channel.

Aren't the kit colors just dreamy together? The kit includes Great Fruit, Lettuce Get Together and Ride the Tide Creameez, Granny Gray Spritz, and the beautiful Life is a Circus stamp and coordinating die set from Pink & Main. Normally, just the stamps and dies alone would cost $31.00, but you can get the whole kit for just $34.95! That's a 20% savings!

Below are a few of the cards I created with the kit.

For this card, I pulled out a Fabriano watercolor note card and created a simple wash with Ride the Tide and Lettuce Get Together Creameez. I then splattered with Granny Gray Spritz. Next I stamped the elephant and seal images from the Life is a Circust stamp set included in the kit and watercolored using just the four colors in the kit. When my images were dry, I die cut them with the coordinating dies. The You're the Greatest Friend On Earth sentiment is embossed in white on black cardstock and then cut into a thin strip and layered onto the card. I roughed up the edges of the black mat to mirror the edges on the notecard to finish things off.

My next card is a sweet little birthday card I made for a friend's child.

For this card, I started by watercoloring stripes across a white panel with all the colors in the kit, repeating the granny gray on the top and bottom. I cut this into a rounded rectangle shape and matted with gray cardstock.  The monkey image and the balloon image are watercolored with the kit colors and cut with the coordinating dies. I embossed the Have the Greatest Day on Earth sentiment in white on gray cardstock and then cut the ends of the strip in a banner shape. I finished with a white card base dry embossed with the use of an embossing folder.

My final card is a fun little shaker card. This one was so much fun to put together!

I used the leftover piece of watercolored stripes from cutting the rectangle on the last card as the start of my shaker card, layering a piece of acetate below it.  I splattered all of the inks on white cardstock for the background to the card, then added some sequins inside the shaker. Next I watercolored the elephant, balloons, and cannon with the Shimmerz colors, highlighting in a few places with some coordinating markers.  The Life is a Circus Enjoy the Show sentiment is masked off to split on two lines to fit a ticket strip I had in my stash. I finished off with some distressed edges and a seam binding bow.

I hope you enjoyed this little look at the March Card Making Kit. Be sure to check out all of the fabulous March Color Kitz in the Shimmerz shop!

A Watercolor Santa, with Karine

Hi,

I'm here today to share my last creation for Shimmerz Paints for 2016. As Christmas is near, I wanted to make something Christmassy, but I didn't want to do a layout, so I went for a little ornament that made its way on my mantle this year.

I drew the Santa following an image I've pinned on Pinterest. I'm sorry, I can't find the link. I would love to give the credit to the person who drew this cute Santa first.

For his clothes, I used Red Hot Aqua Huez and Tidy Widy Texturez. For his skin, I used Tan Yer Hide Aqua Huez and My Clementine Creameez. I also added a bit of Piglet Aqua Huez on his cheeks. His beird, hair and moustache, I shaded with No One's Chrome Inklingz and Thunder Storm Creameez.

The belt, I colored with Inter-BLACK-Tic Aqua Huez. For the buckle, I used Sheer Bliss Inklingz. His little stuffed deer, I painted with Don't Be Suede Coloringz and a bit of Tan Yer Hide Aqua Huez.

I used Ride the Tide Creameez around Santa, and Green Acres Creameez under his feet.

I hope you like it.

Go See Explore with Guest Designer Adrienne Alvis

Hello Shimmerz fans! I'm here again with you today sharing another layout that I created using a mix of Coloringz, Creameez, and Dazzlerz dimensional paste.

I started creating this layout by misting some of the Coloringz Night Moves spray onto my background patterned paper. I just randomly picked an area to spray and added a few larger drops from the cap as well.

Next, after the mist dried completely, I used one of my favorite acrylic masks and placed it on top of the misted area and secured it using some washi tape so it wouldn't move around while I added the Dazzlerz Spun Sugar dimensional paste.

As you can see in the photo below, I didn't lay the dimensional paste on super thick because I wanted to add only a slight bit of texture and dimension.

After the paste dried, I added a 12" long strip of patterned paper that I placed my photo and page title on and adhered it using some foam tape.

Using a watercolor brush, I added some of the Creameez Ride the Tide watercolor to the chipboard letters in my title and squirted a few drops around my entire layout to coordinate with the light blue elements in the patterned paper I chose.

After placing a few more embellishments around my photo and adding my journaling, my page was complete!

As I mentioned in my previous guest post, I was always a little shy about using a lot of paint and watercolors on my layouts, but the Shimmerz paints are so easy to use and I'm always amazed at how quickly they dry!

Shimmerz products used: Coloringz Night Moves, Creameez Ride the Tide, Dazzlerz Spun Sugar

Thanks so much for joining me again and I hope you have a fabulous day!
