August Color Kitz - Brianna Lepper

Hey friends!  Brianna Lepper here today sharing my newest layout using the gorgeous August Color Kitz! Here's what comes in the kitz this month!

Here's my layout, I had such a great time creating it!

First, I cut the Splish Splash Dolphin cut file from the kit out on white textured cardstock.  While still in Silhouette Software, I offset the inner pieces to make it easier for me to back the cut file since I was going to paint them.  For my title, I chose the Summer Lovin' cut file, which is exclusive and available in the Shimmerz shop!  I did the same thing with this cut file as I did for the dolphin one, making sure to offset the inner letter pieces.  Such a huge timesaver when backing cut files!  Once everything was cut, I started applying the colors from the kit onto the letters making sure to create an ombre look to them.

Once all of the letters were painted, I got to work on the waves and the dolphin.  I used the new color, Slow Ocean Shimmerz from the kit for the waves and mixed in a few blues from my stash.  I pulled Sapphire Spritz and In Deep Coloringz.  For the dolphin, I used Granny Gray Spritz.  As soon as the pieces were all dry, I backed the cut file and absolutely love how it turned out!

Next, I got to work on creating a sequin shaker using the dolphin cut file.  We get another pack of SpiegelMom Scraps sequins this month and the Melon Ball mix matches the kit colors so well!

Now that my cut filez were backed and my sequin shaker complete, the background was next.  I added clear gesso to a piece of thick white cardstock and applied Glorious Day Vibez, Pop Art Pink Vibez and Slow Ocean Shimmerz.  I kept it pretty simple only adding a few sprays of water to get the colors moving and blended.  

Next, I adhered the Dotz around my page and added some tangled thread under each one.  I added a few embellishments around the page but for the most part, I kept it pretty simple.  My page was already busy with all of the other elements.

Strong Together | Ericka Strange

Happy Monday Shimmerz Fanz and I hope the start of this new week finds you healthy and well. Ericka here with another card I made for the Shimmerz Spring Forward Challenge. The challenge is all about making a layout or card WITHOUT using PATTERNED PAPER!! I made a fun background using Tidy Widy Texturz with some Sprtiz and Coloringz.

I started with some Bristol Smooth cardstock and sprayed a couple of layers of Chick-a-Dee Spritz. Once it was dry, I mixed some Tidy Widy Texturez with some 4 Leaf Clover Sprtiz. Texturez have a grit or snady texture in the paste and I used my palette knife to spread it around my background. I sprayed some In Deep Coloringz on some plastic and added smooshed it on the background to give it additional texture.

I knew I wanted to use this Strong Sentiment from Ellen Hutson but my card needed something else, so decided to include the Bear from the All Inside set as well.

I sprayed the bear with Grey Flannel Vibez and added a little colored pencil for additional details. I also added some white gel pen to his eyes and a little pink to his cheeks. I painted the bunny with Ride the Tide Creameez and added it to my bear.

I made a little sign by attaching the Together sentiment which is part of the Be Strong set and added a little handle for him to hold.

I finished my card with a die cut sentiment and Glossy Accents for shine!

2 Cute | Boy-themed layout with process video

Hello everyone!

Started this new year by making a boy themed layout with lots of colors and layers. It's a pretty simple layout so let's get started! For further help, link to process video is posted at the end of this blogpost.

Started off my background with white cardstock covered in clear gesso and began spraying in colors with the following mists: Bed of Roses (Spritz), Lil' Yellow School Bus (Coloringz), Jeni B Blue (Vibez), In Deep (Coloringz), Princess (Vibez), Tuscan Sun (Spritz), Rollin' In The Hay (Vibez). I added these colors just by spraying them unto the background and rolling my paper towel roll over them. After doing this 3 times to ensure a bold colored background, I splattered black and white acrylic paint. Set it aside to dry.

While the background dried, I began to work on my paper layers. Used Shimelle's Field Trip collection patterned papers;began trimming them into various widths and lengths and finally distressed most of the edges. Once the background was dry, I layered all the pieces of patterned paper unto the background, adding an extra layer of paper with a teal polka-dot acetate sheet. 

Added some stars (leftovers from 2 different cutfiles) which I previously colored with Hermit the Frog (Vibez), Lil' Yellow School Bus (Coloringz), Bed of Roses (Spritz), Hint of Mint (Spritz) and In Deep (Coloringz). Popped these up on craft foam and layered in some more ephemera and stickers from Field Trip. For more interest and color, I punched out some leaves and also layered them in. I added some vellum beneath the title thickers in order to make it pop even more.

Finished the layout off with splatters of Pixie Dust (Blingz) and some Nuvo Drops in dark green, and added my journaling beneath my title.

Snowflakes | Ericka Strange

Happy New Years Eve day! Ericka here and I'm not sure what 2020 has in store for you but I hope it is something good. Today I'm playing with some snowflake stencils and Dazzlers and Texturez.

For my first two cards, I played around with spraying Vibez and Coloringz on photo paper. The result is a beautiful vibrant shiny color since the spray sits on top of the paper.

For this card I used Vibez Jeni B Bleu and Glorious Day. Once the spray dried, I used the Gina K Snowflake Mandala Snowflake with the Spun Sugar Dazzlerz which is a pearl-essence embossing paste.

The shine of all these products is amazing!

For my second card, I used photo paper and sprayed Coloringz In Deep and Vibez Princess and Snow Storm. 

The Spun Sugar is so smooth and I love how easy it is to work with.

For my next cards I tried some Distress Ink blending.

For this card I used Texturez Gold Mine which has a grainy almost sandy finish to it.

For my last card I used a Paste-eez product which is no longer sold but the Dazzlerz Gummy Berry Blue would give a similar look.

For this card, I used Distress Ink in Antique Linen, Scattered Straw, Dried Marigold, with a little Hickory Smoke on the edges.

These embossing pastes are so much fun to play with and I love the unique look they give my cards.

You Are One Of A Kind

Hello! Super excited to be playing along for the Shimmerz Color Challenge, and here's my first layout.

I chose Coffee (love the name, color, and drink; Lol!) because I find it really hard to use browns as focal colors in my projects. This being said, I love this color now!

For this layout, not only did I step outside my comfort zone in terms of the focal color, I also pushed myself into making a masculine, nature-themed layout to document this picture from a few years ago of my husband (then my boyfriend) enjoying one of his hobbies.

Bearing in mind how brown is a color I struggle with, I also don't have a lot of patterned paper in this tine. Plus, I love color, I added blues and greens into mix by using the same colors/tonez from within the picture. I first began to work on my background. I dipped my brush into the Coffee pot (no pun intended) and started to draw vertical lines. Without waiting for it to dry, I ran a brayer over it and did the same thing only with horizontal lines. Splattered a few drops unto the background with the same color. Waited for it to dry and, using a "reptile skin" stencil and Jeni B Blue (Vibez), added a layer of teal to the background. Set the base aside again to dry and began to work on creating all the layer for the picture cluster.

I used a lot of different patterns in different tones of blue or green to layer in beneath my picture. Mixed in a bit of teal, but tried to stay between the blue and greens. Added a pop I did at a pop of brown right next to my picture tie in with the background. My picture/patterned paper cluster is set on 3D craft foam and the picture itself is also set on some craft foam. In the end, there are 2 layers beneath my picture.

Then I trimmed about maybe an inch on each side of the base a wonky matter and then distress the edges. In a way I wanted to recreate the idea of an old map. Beneath the first base, I placed a light blue pattern paper with rope design; I did this to continue with the masculine, nature-like vibe. With a brayer, I added a bit of In Deep (Coloringz) around the border and used a brayer to thin it out. Then added some splatters. Since the first base is light and the second base is white, I ran my brush with Coffee around the entire border of the second base. Did this also to further add on to the element of the distressed look.

Once everything was dry, I placed my patterned paper cluster onto my base with glue (I find it works better when adhering things on mixed media), and began finalizing the layout using embellishments in different tones of blues, greens and browns. Layered some green leaflets (leftover from another project) to give another "nature-y" element, added my journaling in blue marker and finished it all off with splatters in Coffee (Shimmerz) and  Oakie Dokie (Creameez)
