Cool Kid | Color-Blocking Layout Using the April Color Kitz w/ process video

Hello everyone!

Lorimar here sharing a new layout for Shimmerz Paints! I mainly used the colors from the April Color Kitz  (Sold Out) and also added some other colors from my stash to create this color-blocking, tone-on-tone layout.
Also, Type "Lorimar" into the comments section of your next Shimmerz order to get a freebie.

Let's get started:
Using a sheet of white textured cardstock, I made three distinct color swatches using Don't Citron Me, Heidi Ho Blue, and Chick-A-Dee. I then layered some more colors unto the swatches with Someone Like Blue, Limoncello, and Key Lime. Added some splatters with the same colors. Set Aside to dry.
While it dried, I went into my stash and selected embellishments in greens, blue, and yellows. Afterwards, I added some modeling paste using the rain drop stencil from the April Color Kit. Once it was dried, I began to layer in the embellishments in their corresponding colors. Finished off the layout with some sequins from SpiegelMom Scraps and some splatters of Hi Ho Silver. Close- Ups are down below!

Thanks for looking!

Friends | Monochromatic Layout featuring Peacock's Plume and Anchors Away | Lorimar Ortega

Hello everyone!

November is a month full of thankfulness, and busy-ness preparing for the Christmas Season. Two of the many things that I'm grateful for are photographed and documented in this layout: My son Danny and our dog, Amy. I went with a monochromatic theme showcasing different tones of blues. For extra pops of "color", I added some embellishments in white and black.
To make this layout, I started with a light blue cardstock by Bazzill. added clear gesso and set it aside to dry. While it dried, I dove into my stash of embellishments and scrap patterned paper searching for anything blue, black and white. I matted my picture on some white cardstock and then added some layers of different patterned paper with torn and/or distressed borders. For extra texture, I tied some chunky Baker's Twine in light blue to the right hand side of the picture.

The colors that I used on my base are listed below. Once the base was dried, I began adding colors in a sort of ombre fashion using the packaging technique, starting with the lightest color are the bottom. I did add a bit more color to the bottom as well so that it looked balanced. Afterwards, I added some extra splatters in Anchors Away and Pixie Dust.

Colors used:
- Anchors Away (Shimmerz)
- Peacock's Plume (Shimmerz) <--- Part of the November color Kitz.
- Tickle Me Turquoise (Shimmerz)
- Boggie Boardin' Blue (Creameez)
- Colder Than Ice (Shimmerz)
- Hi Ho Silver (Blingz)
- Before Dawn (Coloringz)
- Pixie Dust (Blingz)

After everything was dry, I added my picture with paper layers unto some craft foam for added dimension and adhered it to my base. Then I began embellishing, taking care to balance everything out. Finally, added my journaling with a black sharpie marker and added a few splatters of Anchors Away.

I simply love how it turned out! It looks very wintery for me which is just fitting since the picture was taken in January.

Hope I've inspired you to document your story and to embrace a monochromatic look to your layout. Remember, type my name in the comments section of your next Shimmerz order so you can receive some free paint!

Until next time, Happy Craftin'!

Frosty Fun | Color Challenge: Winter's Mist | Niki Rowland

Hey there Shimmerz fans! Niki back with you today and I have a wintery layout to share with you today. We are doing another color challenge at the moment: each member of the DT had to choose one color and make that the subject of their layout.  I loved this challenge last month and stuck just to my one chosen color. This month I'd added in a couple of extras too.

So my chosen color this time was 'Winters Mist' Shimmerz. These Shimmerz paints are little pots of watercolor gorgeousness...the color is already mixed to a runny consistency but they are thicker than spray bottle paints and thinner than acrylics - they are the perfect consistency for painting with and of course they sparkle - this makes me very happy :)

So I started off by working out roughly where my photo cluster was going to go. I then mixed some Winter's Mist with some Spun Sugar Dazzlers. Spun Sugar is basically a white texture paste so the colour took to it very well and then hey presto: I had a paste I could apply through a stencil but in Winter's Mist colour.  I applied it through a spotty stencil directly onto my white background.

I also splattered the top half of the background with Winter's Mist. I added in two other colours here too: Hi Ho Silver Blingz and It's Mint to Be Shimmerz.

I also applied Winter's Mist and a snall amount of It's Mint to Be with the packaging technique in order to get a watercolor effect below my photo.

I painted my cut file title with Winter's Mist. That's just one coat and the colour is so intense! Seriously I love these paints so much. Once it was dry I applied some Spun Sugar Dazzlerz through the same stencil I used on the background.

Once all my painting was dry I then assembled my layout using lots of wintery/christmassy papers and embellishments. I didn't want this to be a Christmas layout so I pulled out all the blues and greens so that it looked wintery.

Thank you so much for joining me today, I hope you've enjoyed this layout and Round 2 of the Color Challenge - what's your favourite Shimmerz Colour??

Bedtime Stories | Niki Rowland

Hey there! Niki here today with this layout that is a little out of my comfort zone. I usually like to create on white backgrounds but today I'm working on a black background, eek!

I've seen these awesome Galaxy layouts around recently and thought I'd give it a go. So I took a piece of black cardstock and then set about adding lots and lots of light coloured flicks to my background.

I used original Shimmerz paints for this as they are highly pigmented. Sprays are more fine as they have to go through a spray applicator, but the original Shimmerz are in pots so I just took my paintbrush, dipped it in the pots and flicked away!

I used Shimmerz Sugar Plum, Shimmerz Peacocks Plume, Blingz Hi Ho Silver. I also added some flicks of white acrylic paint to add to the effect.

When all the splatters were dry, I then took Shimmerz Sugar Plum and a wetwipe and applied the paint directly to the background, swirling it around in a circle shape. I did two of these.

Once the swirls were dry I added white machine stitching around and around in messy circles. This challenged my machine stitching skills!

Once my background was complete I added a black and white photo with some tissue paper behind it and a frame. I also added my title using irridescent glitter alphabet stickers. I then went crazy with stars - some punched from patterned papers, some stickers, some puffy stickers and I also added lots of enamel dots in coordinating colours.

I had loads of fun making this layout even though it was way out of my comfort zone. I love the way the paint sits on top of the background card and dries true to colour too - oh and the shimmer, did I mention the shimmer!!!

Don't forget that if you place a Shimmerz order and put my name in the comments you will recieve a free gift - happy days!

Happy scrapping xx

Pretty as a Picture, a Dark Monochromatic Layout with Karine

Dear crafty souls,

It's Karine here today to share with you another layout I made with the most amazing mixed media products ever!

I don't know if I was in a bad mood, but I ended up creating a pretty dark layout. Lets take a look at it.

Pretty as a Picture

I started out my layout by adding some white gesso on the background in a roughly diamond shape.  I then added some Lava Flow Paste-Eez through a stencil. I love the dark lines it created.

Over the white gesso, I splattered some No One's Chrome Inklingz, some Before Dawn Vibez and some Hi Ho Silver Blingz.

I chose a frame (the Frame Maria's from 2Crafty Chipboard) and I painted it with Gritty Graphite Texturez. I love the uneven look I got with the Texturez.

Over my frame, I laid some ivy chipboards, which I painted with Shimmerz Tar, Tar AcriTonez. I love the black against the background and the Gritty Graphite chipboard.

I also painted my title piece with Shimmerz Tar, Tar AcriTonez, but I dry brushed some No One's Chrome Inklingz over the edges to make it stand out a bit more.

Shimmerz products used:
Lava Flow Paste-Eez
Gritty Graphite Texturez
No One's Chrome Inklingz
Shimmerz Tar, Tar AcriTonez

Halloween board with Yuko

Hello! It's Yuko.
Soon It is Halloween!!!
Recently, Halloween in Japan became a very famous event!

Today  I made the board of 9.5 × 5.5 ".

My daughter has fully become a devil with a serious face.lol!

This time I will introduce how to make the base of the part.
The one which added a black acrylic color to modeling paste is applied cardboard.

I'll apply a more black acrylic color and shade.

I tear off pattern paper by hand and swell here and there and I paint with black more from the top and bury it.

I acquire a design with a stencil.
It is SHIMMERZ texturez Have a Grape Day! to have used.

I painted this pumpkin with Brick wall of texturez in the same way.
I just mixed black because it was a slightly bright color.

A white leaf was applied by shimmerz BLINGZ Hi Ho Silver and black glitter was sprinkled.

Thank you!!!

Hooray for Halloween!

I don't know about you, but FALL and Halloween are two of my favorites things in life. There is something miraculous about the metamorphosis of the hot, hot summer melting away into the cooler and more colorful Fall.
And what isn't to love about Halloween? Trips to the pumpkin patch, corn mazes, warm apple cider and all of those cute little ghosties trick or treating....and I can't forget the candy!
So for the rest of the month, the Shimmerz DT is going to be sharing some fabulous, shimmery, spooky and creative Halloween ideas...BUT we want YOU to play along with us.
What's in it for you? How about the chance to win a spooktacular Shimmerz prize pack that Stacey has so generously put together. Complete with all the colors you will need to create your own Halloween projects, this prize could be yours if you play along:

Simply create a Halloween project using Shimmerz products and link it to this post. We will be picking a winner on the spookiest day of the year: Halloween!

Here is a project to help get your creative mojo flowing:
Here is a spooky layout of my daughter all dressed up as a dark fairy and she ummm fit the mood perfectly! I used several different Shimmerz products and techniques to create this layout. First I painted the background using a foam brush with our new Luscious Lilac Pearlz.

Then I wanted to add some spurts of orange on there...and what better color than our new Carrot Top Pearlz? I smeared a bit on the corners with my fingers, then used the tip of my finger to fling paint across my page. I like that kind of sporadic look and the texture. The pearlz paints are nice and thick, just perfect for creating little pools of color!

And no project is complete without a large dosing of BLINGZ. I used it here on top of a cut out flocked crow. He was just begging for some Hi Ho Silver Blingz!
And once again, the final shimmery project:

I invite YOU to come create along with us and don't forget to LINK to this post! HAPPY HALLOWEEN!
