Having fun with Quick and Easy Mixed Media Backgrounds

Happy Thursday!

Tina here today with my final Shimmerz Education Team projects.  I have part of the Shimmerz family for over a year and it is time for me to say goodbye!  I want to thank Stacey for creating such amazing products and for being flexible during periods when I had a lot of personal things going on.

I thought my final projects should take me back to my scrapbook roots!  I will show you how to create quick and easy mixed media backgrounds for any scrapbook page.

For my first layout, I wanted to use one of my favorite techniques for creating backgrounds:  using heat embossing for a resist, textural look.

The great thing about using this technique is that you can create any color palette to go with other embellishments or theme you want to show.

I use 12x12 chipboard sheets so multiple mediums can be used without warping or ripping the background.  I pre-gessoed my sheet, then embossed the background with white embossing powder.

Then add your favorite Shimmerz Sprays or Paints, letting the paints mix and blend for a free formed background.

Add your embellishments of choice and DONE!

Shimmerz products used:
Spritz: Treasured Hymn, Taupe o'the morning
Coloringz: Peachy Keen
Vibez: Hot Fudge

For my second layout, I created a custom made Rice paper embellishment.

Using a single sheet of Rice paper, crinkle the paper and wet randomly with water.

Spray the rice paper with various Shimmerz Sprays, Inklingz, and Creemez.

Once the paper is dry, cover the sheet with a thin layer of clear resin.  (I used Amazing Crafting Products Clear Cast Resin)
The resin adds a bit of interest and texture and it's just plain fun.

Let the resin cure completely (for 24 hours).

Once the resin has cured, cut randomly sized rectangles from the paper.  These will be hand-stitched on my background.

Add other randomly sized paper rectangles and embellishments to create a grid pattern.  Hand stitch each embellishment in place and add more hand stitching to the outside edge.

Shimmerz products used:
Vibez:  Jenni B Bleu, Hot Fudge
Coloringz: Oh Say Can U See
Spritz:  Treasured Hymn
Creemeez: Get Glowing

Simple, easy, and doesn't require many supplies.

I hope you enjoyed my two mixed media backgrounds!  As always, thank you for stopping by!

Using Deli Paper and Shimmerz Paints to Create a Mixed Media Background

Hi and Happy Monday!

Tina here today with a super fun technique for creating random, spray mist and watercolor backgrounds, using Deli Paper.

The starting point (and inspiration catalyst) for my Art Journal pages always starts with my backgrounds.  I love to experiment and try new product and techniques for interesting and colorful designs.

I 'stumbled' upon this idea out of what already existed on my desk, deli paper.  A few years ago, I purchased a huge box of deli paper to use for Gelli Prints and layering in scrapbook pages.  Because I have more than I will ever use, I often use it to 'protect' my surface as I create other projects.  A few weeks ago, I had finished another project and loved the color left over on my deli paper, so I 'smooshed' it onto a black art journal page.  I loved the Kaleidoscope look so I thought it would be fun to play and create a background for a finished Art Journal page.

Here's a brief step by step on how I created this background.

Step One
Grab some of your favorite Shimmerz Sprays and Creemeez.  You will also need deli paper or wax paper.

Step Two
Spray and/or paint with your mists and watercolors, directly on the deli paper.  Not much spray/paint is needed as it beads up on the paper.

Step Three
Fold the deli paper in half (lengthwise) and smoosh the spray/paint together.  Colors will blend and mix beautifully.

 Step Four
Open your deli paper and 'print' directly onto your blank art journal page.  I love the mirrored image you get from the paint.

Step Five
Repeat Step Three and Four, adding layers to your art journal page until you have created a background you love.  I placed the deli paper in different directions on my page to add color in all directions.

Step Six
Add stamping, doodling, etc.
I painted my stamp with acrylic paint and stamped directly on my background.  I added doodling and words to finish my page.

This technique would look fabulous on a mixed media scrapbook layout as well.  I hope you enjoyed my project today.

Thank you for stopping by!  Have a wonderful day!

p.s. Remember, if you were inspired by my project today, and place an order for Shimmerz product, mention my name in the 'Instructions to Merchant' section and receive FREE Shimmerz product.

Picasso Inspired Wall Art

Hi...
Happy Monday!

Tina here today with a new Design Team project.  I got 'alottabit' artsy with my project this month and I hope you enjoy it.

A few months ago, I went to the Philadelphia Museum of Art with my youngest Son, who is a Graphic Design major.  He is very knowledgeable about Art History and drew me into Cubism and Picasso art.

Picasso was a creative genius and I just love his creative drive and how he used his vision to create amazing works of Art.

My project today is inspired by a piece of Picasso art, with a Tina twist.  :)

Adult Coloring pages are super HOT right now, and I LOVE to create with them.  I find them relaxing and fun!  I found a Picasso coloring page, located HERE, but instead of color it on paper with markers and paint, I wanted to create a piece of hang-able art.

I'll walk you through my design process, step by step.

Step One:  Tape a piece of white tissue paper to a scrap piece of 8x10 paper

Step Two:  Print image on tissue paper.  Here's what my screen looked like as I printed the image.

Step Three: Adhere to wood canvas with Mod Podge, Matte Medium, or your adhesive of choice.

Step Four:  Since my image wasn't quite as big as my canvas, I added several stamped images that reflected the Picasso shapes and designs.

Step Five:  Paint each section/grid in contrasting colors.  I used the following Shimmerz Creameez colors:  Thunder Storm, Daffodil, Berry Hot, Ride the Tide, and Mr. Clementine.

Step Six:  Using a Stabilo All pencil, outline each section/grid and wet the pencil lines, creating a watercolor effect.

Step Seven:  Using coordinating colors of Acrylic Paint Markers, add dots to each section/grid.

Step Eight:  Seal entire canvas, using clear resin.  I used Amazing Crafting Product Clear Cast Resin.  (warning - you will be addicted to this stuff - It's amazing)  You can really see the shine in this picture.

Step Nine:  Hang and enjoy!  I loved creating this so much, I'd like to create a little vignette of Picasso inspired images on my wall.  I love how easy and artsy it turned out!

Don't forget the sides of your canvas.  I just followed the general shape over the side and embellished.

I hope you enjoyed my project today!

Remember, if you mention my name in the 'Instructions to Merchant section' when ordering Shimmerz product, you will receive FREE product each and every time!
