Plan with Me | Kelly Janes

Hey Shimmerz fans! I hope you all had a great Christmas! I'm working on my December spreads in my Happy Planner and thought it would be fun to try to incorporate my Shimmerz Paints into a spread.

I'm working on December 16-22, 2019 and wanted to keep it very cheery. I used a light strand die from Lawn Fawn and die cut it on watercolor paper. I used a few different Shimmerz Paints, including: Concrete Shimmeringz, Ruby Spritz and Velveteen Green Vibez to color the lights. I cut two strands of lights and streamed them across the spread. To help them jump off the page I used a white pen to add highlights.

I added multiple photos from this week and multiple stickers from the MAMBI Happy Planner Sticker Books to add more color and detail. I'm using my planner as a type of "Project Life". This planner is a great way to document the everyday stories that really tell the story of my life.

Now you can take a look at the process video:

I hope you've found some inspiration on ways you can use Shimmerz Paints to add detail and color to any project. Thanks so much for spending part of your day with me!

Carefree Guy | Kelly Janes

Hey Shimmerz fans! Kelly back today with a new 12x12 scrapbook layout!

I have Fall on the brain! It's my favorite season to scrapbook and the season always seems to go by so quickly! I wanted to document this sweet pic of my dog in the leaves that I snapped last week. I originally printed the photo in color, but there was just so much brown in the photo (the leaves were a yucky brown color & he is also brindle) that it just overpowered the layout. So, I decided to print the photo in black and white.

I cut a circle (using my Cricut) in the center of a patterned paper from the Pinkfresh Studio Just a Little Lovely Collection. I knew I wanted to decorate the edge of the circles with leaves and thought it would be fun to color my own using Shimmerz Paints.

I grabbed a few sheets of cheap watercolor paper and sprayed/painted the paper with multiple Shimmerz Colors. I colored a blue sheet of paper (using Frost Bite Vibez, Cold as Ice Vibez & Lapis Dance Creameez), a pinkish orange paper (using Sweet Heart Vibez, Cotton Candy Spritz, Lil' Yellow Skool Bus Coloringz, Sunset Strip Vibez & Mandarin Mai Tai Coloringz) and finally topped off with a purple paper (using Rip Van Periwinkle Vibez, Princess Vibez & Plum Pudding Spritz). Now you definitely wouldn't need this many colors. I just wanted to have a variety of shading on each piece of the watercolor paper.

Once the watercolor paper was dry, I ran each piece through my die cutting machine using leaf dies. I then arranged the leaves around the circle on my background patterned paper. I used my sewing machine and metallic gold thread to hold the leaves in place. I also embellished the layout using puffy stickers, epoxy stickers, enamel dots, and die cuts. I used a puffy phrase sticker for my title and finished things off with gold splatters from Miner Miner 49er Inklingz.

Now you can take a look at how my layout came together!

I love using combinations of paints to create different depths and a dimension to the colors! If you haven't given it a try I highly recommend it! Thanks so much for spending part of your day with me!

Color Challenge - Don't Citron Me | Kelly Janes

Hey there, friends! Have you taken part in the Autumn Shimmerz Color Challenge? The color I chose, for this challenge, is Don't Citron Me Coloringz. I find green to be a challenging color and it's definitely not something I naturally gravitate towards, so I knew it would be a great color to choose for the challenge!

I started my 12x12 scrapbook layout by adding a layer of clear gesso to the background. I then used heavy black gesso with a spiderweb stencil to add a bit of detailing to the background. I then took the Don't Citron Me Coloringz and sprayed it directly onto the background.

Once the green was dry, I sprayed Ruby Spritz and Lil' Yellow Skool Bus Coloringz onto a scrap piece of packaging. I mixed those colors together with a paintbrush to create a deep orange color and then used the packaging technique to add that color to the background in a few different areas. I think it's so fun to add the color to the background using different techniques (packaging technique, using a paintbrush, spraying directly on the background, etc.)! You get a different look with each technique!

I then moved onto embellishing. I grabbed multiple Halloween themed embellishments and 4 photos of my kiddo when he was trick or treating. I had so much fun layering the embellishments on the background! I love how the mixed media background peeks out from behind the photos and embellishments!

Now you can take a look at my process video!

I hope you'll play along with the challenge this month! Remember to use the hashtag #shimmerzcolorchallenge when posting online!

Fall | Kelly Janes

Hey Shimmerz fans! Kelly here today with a new 12x12 Fall themed scrapbook layout!

I started my layout today by grabbing the Paige Evans Truly Grateful Collection and three Shimmerz colors that match; Cotton Candy Spritz, Plum Pudding Spritz, and Sweetheart Vibez. I added clear and white gesso to the background patterned paper before adding any of the mists.

I cut a Fall themed cut file from The Cut Shoppe using the Truly Grateful 6x8 patterned papers and used those 3 colors behind the cut files. I used the packaging technique, a brush, splattered and misted the colors directly on the background to get the coverage I was looking for.

I then adhered the cut file images on top of the mixed media. The colors were a little too bold in the center of each letter so I painted watered down white acrylic paint in the opening of each letter to mute the mixed media in that area.

I then moved onto adding 8 tiny photos and embellishing. I grabbed multiple Fall themed embellishments from the same Paige Evans collection and I also added hand-stitching around each of the letters to help them pop off the background.

Now you can take a look at my process video to see how this layout came together from start to finish.

I love how versatile the Shimmerz mists are and how the possibilities are endless!

Beautiful Kitty | Kelly Janes

Hey Shimmerz Paints fans! My name is Kelly Janes and I am so excited to share my first design team layout as part of the YouTube Education Team!

I started with a butterfly cut file from The Cut Shoppe and painted the butterflies with multiple Shimmerz Paints. My color choices were based off the Pinkfresh Studio Just a Little Lovely Collection, so I painted the butterflies in shades of blues, pinks and purples.

You definitely wouldn't need as many blues as I used to achieve this look. I had just received an order with new paints and was anxious to try them out! HA!

I color grouped the butterflies together after they were painted, added a layer of vellum here and there, and then stitched them together down the center. I love the added dimension this give the layout!

I arranged the butterflies on my background, but I added a splash of color to the background using Cold As Ice Vibez, Cotton Candy Spritz and Princess Vibez before I adhered anything down. I then moved onto embellishing. I color blocked the embellishments; which is a really great way to embellish quickly. I added my title using a die cut, and white puffy alphas. I also added subtitles with my kittens names using a smaller puffy alpha set.

I created a process video that you can watch by clicking HERE.

Thanks so much for joining me today and I will be back again next month with a new layout and process video! Don't forget to mention my name in the comments at check-out at the Shimmerz Store to get a free gift!
