It's a Rainy, Spring Break, Garland Making, Day!

My kids have been on Spring Break this past week, and when the rainclouds roll in - my brain instantly begins to think of things we can do together in order to pass the time in a fun way together. While I was brewing my coffee, it struck me. See, my Dad, the amazingly generous man that he is bought me 1000 coffee filters last time he was here. Yes, 1000 coffee filters. And while I drink a lot of coffee, ummm... that's a lot of coffee filters.

(If you google coffee filter crafts, there are a ton of kid friendly ideas out there... and that is where I got the inspiration for making our own scrunched up, ruffly-looking, coffee filter garland for my kiddos bedroom. Not only would it be fun to make, but it would take us HOURS to do it, lol.  :))

Here are my girls hard at work spritzing their coffee filters with paints.
For theirs, they used the following Shimmerz Paints:

Spritz: Plum Pudding, Carribean Sunset, Mango Madness, and Cotton Candy
Vibez: Red-y-or-Not, Sea Monkey
Coloringz: My Bleeding Heart, Pink Stiletto, Mandarin Mai Tai, Heidi Ho Blue
After painting the filters (18 of each color they chose), we stamped them in random places with various brands of ink. We then gathered them in bunches of seven, altering the colors, and strung them on a piece of hemp, knotting in between our bunches.
We then scrunched them, here and there, and fluffed the pieces afterwards.
The girls wanted to hang the finished garland in one strand from their bedroom ceiling, so we knotted them close together, rather than making the garland a long, thin, piece. :)
How pretty would this look if you made several, and used them for all over room decor, or a wedding, or party decorations. FUN!
Of course, I couldn't be excluded from making my own!
I used the following colors to make mine:
Spritz: Mudpie, Olive Branch, Truffle
Vibez: Vertigre, Sea Monkey, Jeni B Bleu
Coloringz: Mama Sings the Blues, Heidi Ho Blue, Anchors Away

And this is how mine turned out...

"Inking" With Shimmerz!

I have always loved the look of inked/distressed edges on paper, it just has a way of making pages pop.  I decided, instead of regular ink, to try Shimmerz Pearlz to "ink" the edges of my patterned paper.  The look was just what I had hoped for!

To achieve the "inked" look I dipped a triangle makeup sponge into my Shimmerz Pearlz and then lightly colored the edges.  I also swiped it around the inside edges of the patterned paper for a painted look.  I also colored a stamp in the Pearlz and stamped it in various areas on my layout!    A very easy technique that provides a gorgeous shine!

Vibez in Jeni B Bleu

More on Index Cards AND Stamping

I recently joined a postcard swap and had to come up with 10 different designs. Initially I thought uh oh - what did I get myself into. But then, once I started I couldn't stop and in the process, I came up with a new way to use Shimmerz.

All you need is a blank postcard (available in most paper stores) a stamp (preferably at least the size of the postcard) and your favorite shade of shimmerz - I used Blue Jeans here.

Spray the stamp from a distance - then stamp it onto the front of the postcard

This WILL be a little runny but I lvoe that about this effect. You may also notice that the color did not come out blue blue but that's because my stamp previously had black ink and I didn't do a very good job of cleaning it (in fact I didn't clean it at all ; )) BUT again, I love the look so no worries. If you do want it less runny, simply blot the stamp with a paper towel after spraying.
I added a few little details like a rised square and heart shape and there you have it!!
Enjoy

Springtime Shimmerz and Index Cards

Hello everyone - back here with some new "stuff" I made with the new Shimmerz colors - I love these spring time shades.

So I used to create these vintage index cards using blank white index cards from the office supply store, water and a box of dye. The process took quite a bit of time since I had to place the papers in the water - not overlapping, let them soak, then take them out one by one and lay them on paper, side by side and then let them dry.

But THEN when I got the latest set of colors from Stacey - I had an OMG moment.

Why on earth did I never think of using shimmerz instead of dye!!! The look is almost identifical and in fact, I kinda like the shimmer (pardon the pun) that these products create on the card, rather than the matte look I was getting with the dye.

So here, are the simple, simple steps. 1 part index cards, 1 paintbrush, 1 pot shimmerz Pearlz Pretty in Pink

Apply the Pearlz in a haphazar manner. Don't worry about filling the entire card - instead leave some spot unpainted - this will give you a really "hand dyed" type of look.

Let the card dry flat. After about 5 minutes it will be dry. You may then want to put the card between pages of a heavy book to flatten - or not if you want that grubby look.

Once your background is done:

The possibilities are then endless !!!

Enjoy

He's Pretty in Pink...

Hi everyone, Heidi here! My project today is all about the pink... well, and the blue. :) I had my little bambino last month and while he came just a bit early and with a few complications before labor started, what a delight to see his apgar score a whopping 9 and 10 out of 10 because he "pinked" right up. I thought it appropriate then, to use a few pinkish Shimmerz hues on this layout.

To create the background I used my Trash Bag Misting technique (click here to see details). The colors I used first were Spritz in Caribbean Sunset and Vibez in Pop Art Pink, and then I went back and added Shimmerz new Coloringz in Heidi Ho Blue. After this dried, I used my sewing machine to stitch pieces of patterned paper (thank you to Swirlydoos for a gorgeous March Kit!) and my photo onto the layout, distressing the edges of the paper as I went.

I then added some molding paste for effect, and used a bamboo stick to add Pearlz in Pretty in Pink and Shimmerz in Peachy Keen to the inside framing of my photo and around some of the elements. Underneath the flaps of distressed paper edges I also added some more Peachy Keen.

Then to finish the layout off, I scraped some Pearlz in Samrock onto some masking tape and after it dried I applied some Pearlz in Mint Julip and Shimmerz in Frosty's Got The Blues for added color effect.

So pretty. And He was so pretty, lol. I know, I know, I am slightly biased!

I used all of the colors (plus more) in the Limited Edition Spring set for this layout... do you have yours yet?!!!
xx Heidi

Gorgeous Spring Colors!!!

Hi fellow Shimmerz lovers!  Jaime Warren with you today to share a layout using the gorgeous new Spring release!  I fell in LOVE with these products the second I opened the package.  SO beautiful!

I used only the Spring colors on my layout:  Heidi - Ho - Blue & Shimmerz in Peachy Keen.  I decided to play around with a different size for my layout this time...I love to switch it up!  It always gets the mojo going!

I stamped on my layout using the Shimmerz in Peachy Keen using my stamp and a no. 2 pencil eraser.  The eraser always gives me perfect polka dots - love it!  I sprinkled the Heidi - Ho - Blue in random areas all over the layout.  I love the perfect little splatters!!

The colors are so springy and beautiful!  And of course they have that gorgeous Shimmerz shine!  Thanks for stopping by everyone!!!

Journal Entry with Shimmerz.

Hi there,  Lydell here again.
I am a little late today posting, I apologise.
I have done a Journal entry today, with lots of fun shimmering going on, even though the entry is not so fun......I am having a little winge about these last few days being pregnant.....LOL.  I am so very uncomfortable and I am not sleeping, I cant do the things I want to get done because everything hurts, and I have to remind myself that this will all be over soon and I will have our dear little bubba in my arms.  I am so not good at waiting......this goes for ANYTHING!  LOL.  I want everything the moment I decide to get it......so this waiting is very unpleasant.  THANK goodness for my Shimmerz.  Art journals and Art Diaries are a great way to let out your feelings, get it all out there on paper, in a creative way.  It is fabulous....and amidst feeling a bit low today I was able to make some art and put my feelings on paper.  It doesnt seem nearly so bad now.....In fact, I want to keep going and do another page!!!!  (should I do that washing first?......LOL)

So here is what I created today......

You can see the Background, which features Coloringz in Mon Shari, and Vibez in Jeni B Bleu.  OH so pretty together.  I sprayed and brushed on the colour and even did a little masking over on the inclusion piece in the middle.  I used some white paint on my fingers to trace around the roughly cut circles and added some Liquid pearls accentuating the circles.  I found some matching buttons and attached those, then added all sorts of stickers and goodies from Tim Holtz.  I wrote on my journaling and recorded how I feel at this time adding some pen scribbles while I was at it....

I thoroughly enjoyed doing this page, and it really did make me feel better!  (accompanied with chocolate of course!!!!)
Have fun in your art journal this week with some of your Shimmerz Paints...I love art journaling with Shimmerz.  So many possibilities!!!!

Oh......and keep an eye out....I will have a new Video up on the Shimmerz VLOG in the morning showing you some basics of the Shimmerz Sprays........

Night all!

Canvas piece:)

Happy Saturday everyone!  I hope you are having a great weekend.  This morning we had a birthday party for my little man who turned 5 through the week!  So much fun had but now I'm just winding down with this Shimmerz project for you!!  I created this canvas using the following Shimmerz products:

Coloringz in Lime in Da Coconut and Mama Sings the Blues
Blingz in Ginchy Green
Pearlz in Blue By U and Powder Puff
Vibez in Hermit the Frog, Jeni B Bleu and Before Dawn

These colours would definately be my favourites, I have 3 boys so there is always blue, aqua and lime green going on in my world:):)

"Live, Life, Love"

This is how my background started out.  I applied Gesso first and the added a piece of torn calico.  I then misted from the top down blending the colours as I went.

I used Pearlz in Blue by U and Powder Puff for the chipboards.

Thanks so much for dropping by today, Stace xo

Colours and ideas

Hi everyone! I'm very happy to share with you my new peoject: this time the protagonist, my little hero, is my son Alessandro.

The amazing thing about the Shimmerz products is that the richness of theirs colours make them very special.

The Pearlz are the protagonists of this canvas: they helped me to add liveliness and energy to it. Their cremy texture makes them perfect to use with the brush and thanks to the rough surface of the canvas it was easy to create a fantastic background!

Produtcs used:

Pearlz: Samrock, Powder puff, Blue By U, Sunnyside Up, Grannie Berrie, Blue Into Town and Carrot Top.

Have a great day with creativity!
